I went to ikea with my family yesterday and it was so much fun! I got lots of cute things for my room and some stationary (who knew that ikea sold notebooks?) And I finally bought a desk! It’s not too big so it fits in my tiny room and it’s white so it brightens up this lil corner (it was also student budget friendly yay) 💕🌌 I only need something to hold my pens and a keyboard and then I’m all set! Now I can sit down and study for my history test on Monday 🙈
20 important study skills/tips i’ve learned from my professors
1. start studying a week before every quiz/test. seriously.
2. watch youtube videos/ted talks on the topics you are learning about.
3. get lots of sleep! sleep helps you process the day’s events, including what you learned.
4. write out your notes. it’s proven that handwritten notes help you learn better than typed out notes.
5. don’t just read what your professor gives you. find academic journals, books, etc. that correspond with your subjects.
6. read the news! especially in the social sciences/humanities, connecting concepts with current events helps you understand and process more easily.
7. exercise! this doesn’t have to be going on runs or lifting weights, it could even just be going for a 20 minute walk. just get your blood pumping, it’ll help you focus.
8. study at your desk. it may be tempting to study in bed, but your brain connects your bed with sleep, so you’ll get tired more quickly.
9. reviewing notes doesn’t have to be something you sit down and do for an hour. skim through them and test your memory while eating breakfast!
10. expand your study time throughout the day to avoid burnout. for example, rather than studying for 5 hours straight, study for an hour here and there in between your activities.
11. make your notes organized and easy to read, but not distracting. bright colors and flashy notes may seem better, but can sometimes distract from the purpose of the notes.
12. use apps such as quizlet. this way, you can go through definitions while waiting in lines or walking to class.
13. it’s more important to know concepts rather than facts. for example, you should be able to take what you know and apply it to different situations, not just the situation the textbook gives you.
14. just because the professor doesn’t require you to read textbook, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. it helps explain concepts in a different way than your professor, and a lot of times hearing two different explanations for the same concept helps you understand it.
15. read in advance. read the textbook before your professor begins going over the chapter, so when he/she does, you can easily follow what they are saying.
16. do any extra credit work that comes your way. even if you don’t need the extra boost now, you might later.
17. go to class!! if you always skip class and show up at office hours completely lost on the concepts, they’ll laugh in your face. they’ll take you 100x more seriously if you show up.
18. however, if you are sick, take a day off. it’s more beneficial to you in the long run.
19. learn how to say “no”. if you have an 8 am the next day, don’t stay out until midnight with your friends.
20. don’t stress too hard over quizzes. if you expect them to go horribly, they will. you got this.
life works out. i cannot stress this enough. life always works out. it always turns out in your favor even if it doesn’t go according to the original plan. you may be utterly confused and lost right now, it may feel like everything is falling apart and there is nothing you can do to salvage any of it. but believe me when i say that this is just a transition period. things are constantly changing and evolving around you even if you can’t actively see that. life is changing you to prepare you for what is to come. you are growing and as you grow you are being built into the person that you are going to be. because see, life always has this funny way of working out.

I‘m already on my way home. I spend 7h in the library I think that‘s okay for already going home.
Today I finished another physiology lecture about the high pressure system of the heart and reviewed my notes about sucrose reduction. Yeah, I think today was productive.
Slowly, I get into the panic mode. Exams are coming and there are only 6 weeks left. AND I‘M A WHOLE MONTH BEHIND.
studying at a coffee shop, a little bit of rain outside, what more could I ask for? 🌧
One of my resolutions was to eat out less, so I had a go at making some of these recipes – I made such a big batch that I had kimchi stew for days, no complaints tho 💁♀️
Mood over the past week; new pens and in love with them 😍

24.03.2019 Porto had such a beautiful old town, charming coffee places and overall a very vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere. It was lovely!
little study session
Me doing exam questions after revising: I’m dumb as shit, I’m dumb as shit, I’m dumb as shit-
Me after getting one (1) question right: I am a genius, my intelligence is unrivalled in this universe bow down before your queen-
Me after getting the next question wrong: I’m dumb as shit, I’m dumb as shit, I’m dumb as shit-
And repeat!
Small tips that have helped me lately, and things I wanted someone to tell me when I was younger:
Keep lists of what you have to do, and put them in a visible place. When a new task surges, write it down as soon as possible or you’ll forget it. Use neon signs, I don’t know. You know that voice in your head that says “I don’t need to do it, I’ll remember later”? Yeah? Don’t trust that snake.
When starting a task that you find boring, focus on where you want to get, and not the progress of it. For instance, no one wants to spend hours typing an essay, but if you focus on the feeling of a receiving an amazing grade, it will be a bit more easy to endure.
Don’t study or work in your bed. It can make it harder to fall asleep at night. Your brain can be like a teenage girl getting mixed signals, don’t make its job harder than it has to be. Correlate your bed with sleep. That’s about it.
If you “can’t” learn a subject, become so fucking pissed at it that you use the force of your anger to motivate your learnining progress. Sooner than you think, you won’t force yourself to get better because you have to, but because you’ll WANT to be better. That’s a game changer.
Start studying for an exam at least one week before, no matter how big or small. Your future self will thank you for the extra time to prepare.
Show, don’t tell. Envy is real, and some people don’t like to see progress. So, let them see you when you’re already on top. It’s funnier like that too.
If you start having intrusive thoughts, just imagine they are coming from someone you hate. It’s suddenly a lot easier to see that they’re wrong & very annoying. Get a life, Karen.
You might not know where you’re heading towards right now, but that’s okay. Most of us are just floating like a confused leaf in a forest of despair. Take your time and, most importantly, try new things. New interests are just waiting around the corner, and a lot of amazing things can be discovered by mistake. If you don’t dip your feet in the water you’re never gonna swim. That sounded poetic.
We are living to have fun, remember that. Do what makes you feel like a dog running on an open field. Dance to the beat of your own drum. You don’t have to give excuses, you don’t have to bow down to others. Just do your thing. Bless.
