Where do you see yourself in 3 years time?
I don’t even know what I see myself eating for breakfast tomorrow.
Baby steps, ‘eh?
If you could have brought one thing with you from your old world what would it have been?
A solar surfer would be nice, but honestly, it’d also be nice to have my mom here, and know she’s safe. I’d pick her over a hundred solar surfers.

Jim nodded, she was right of course, and he knew that from the beginning. He knew he could always count on Imogen, even in the short time they’ve known each other. He caught her staring, and smirked, “What are you looking at, Genny?” he teased, pulling his shirt carefully back over his head. There was a gentle pause, before he hugged her from behind where she was standing at the sink and whispered a sincere, “Thank you.” before pulling away.
“You’re…uh…very fit. Must be from all the…repairs?” She finished, unsure. “And I’ve never seen tattoos like that.” She said. Some of Jones’ men had tattoos, but Jim didn’t have to know that. Then his arms were around her and she felt that pesky warmth again, spreading through right to her toes. She felt like she was home, in a far deeper way than she did just walking through the door. When he pulled back she missed it immediately. “Stay? At least tonight. I’ll worry that the infection will take you in the night if you go.”
He didn’t know how to respond to the compliment, so he preoccupied himself with his tattoos, “Oh, do you like them?” he asked, looking over his body at a few of them.
Jim rolled his eyes, “Do I really have to be concerned about dying of infection, because you’re starting to make me nervous?” He didn’t want to make the journey all the way back to Olympus now though, so he nodded, “If you’ll have me, I’d love to stay over.” He could see how red Imogen was, and he wasn’t sure exactly what he’d done to make her like that, but he found he definitely wanted to do it again.

“Fair enough,” he agreed, trying to wrap his head around this whole thing.
In the end he smiled at her, “I’m actually really happy you’re here Morph. Even if you’re a little different now.”
“I’m happy I’m here too. I’m happy you’re here. And you look happy to be here. You’ve gotta catch me up, Jimbo, what did I miss?”
“You’re not allowed to call me that,” he said, very seriously, “Only one person in the galaxy can get away with calling me that.”
“Not a lot actually, I made a friend, her name’s Imogen, she’s nice...and pretty.”

“I’ve been misgendering you. Did you have a gender? Do you have a gender? I’m so confused. I assumed you were a guy. Then again, you were a gelatinous blob, so my bad?”
“I don’t really know. I mean, I’m a girl here, but I don’t know that that was a thing before. I was just a Morph before. I’m a lot more things now.”
“Fair enough,” he agreed, trying to wrap his head around this whole thing.

“I can fix that,” he muttered, looking at the ground, and taking Imogen’s hand. “Can that really happen?” he asked, his eyes wide with genuine concern. He was quiet, walking back with Imogen, holding her hand the entire way.
He stripped out of his shirt, standing in the living room, and peeling off his old bandage, folding it up, and going into the bathroom to throw it out. “I’m sorry I didn’t call you,” he said quietly, “I was really hoping you didn’t have to play doctor for me, usually I’m pretty good at taking care of things on my own.”
“Why? There’s nothing wrong with asking for help.” Imogen said, wincing when Jim peeled the bandage from his body. It was gross. But this was Jim. Her best friend. She’d help him. She rubbed the antiseptic into the wound and redressed it. For a few guilty moments she enjoyed the view of Jim’s bare torso, before going off to wash her hands. “We’ll just leave that a little bit.”
Jim nodded, she was right of course, and he knew that from the beginning. He knew he could always count on Imogen, even in the short time they’ve known each other. “You’re Morph? You can change into full sized people now?”
“That’s going to get really confusing really fast.”
“Yeah, I’m Morph, but no, I can’t change. This is it for me. Which is great because I like this body, and hair, and face, but not so great because I’m stuck like it.”
“I don’t really know what to say...”
“I’ve been misgendering you. Did you have a gender? Do you have a gender? I’m so confused. I assumed you were a guy. Then again, you were a gelatinous blob, so my bad?”

“No way. No Way! What did you turn into when you hid inside a length of rope and we escaped the ship full of pirates? Where did we go? What’s my mother’s name?”
“Jim there have been lots of instances with lots of ropes and lots of ships with lots of pirates. But your mum is called Sarah. You live in Montressor, she owns the Benbow Inn. Silver told me to look after you, and you fell overboard and - and - I was coming after you but now I’m here and human and I’m so glad you’re safe.”

“You are,” he protested, tucking a stray hair behind her ear, but he nodded all the same, “the next time something goes wrong, you’re the first person I will phone. Technically you’re the only person in my contacts,” he realized with a grin. A few things weird? Jim repeated in his head…that’s vague, he thought. Although, she is far too young to be his mother, maybe his slightly older sister? He tossed that thought away, no, now he gets it, that was a super weird thing to think. Imogen is definitely not his mom or his sister so…what is she to him? She told him she slipped and fell and found it was he who was worrying now, “Oh, no, are you okay? I wish I was there to catch you like last time,” he said, feeling a warmth grow on his cheeks at the memory. “I can do that,” he found himself saying, a little too quickly, and then turning redder when Imogen said she was kidding. “Or, not, if you don’t want, I…” oh boy, “Maybe I can just rub your shoulders if that’s less weird.”
“That’d be really lovely, but the tension is really in my lower back.” Imogen said, “I wouldn’t turn down a shoulder rub though.” She said, taking his hand and squeezing it. “Come on, let’s go, before the infection enters your bloodstream and you’re a goner.” She said, giving him a cheeky smile before heading off towards the sound of the ocean. It wasn’t long until they arrived, Callie darting off to get her play-doctor kit, and Imogen bringing out the first aid box.
“I can fix that,” he muttered, looking at the ground, and taking Imogen’s hand. “Can that really happen?” he asked, his eyes wide with genuine concern. He was quiet, walking back with Imogen, holding her hand the entire way.

“Genny, come on,” he whined, pulling away from her and withering under her mom glare. “I knew you’d freak out if I told you!” He said, looking away, feeling ashamed. He should have trusted Imogen as his best friend. “It was late at night, I was across town, the munchkin was definitely in bed, I didn’t want to worry you. You’re already someone’s mom, you don’t have to be mine too.” He winced, “I went to the nearest house, and the guy who lived there patched me up.” Callie should not learn stranger danger from Jim. “I’m not going to drop off! I feel fine, don’t yell at me! I was on my way to go buy bandages and antibacterial cream when I saw you guys!” He wasn’t actually angry at her, it was just awful to have Imogen cross with him, especially when he was trying so hard to make sure she didn’t worry.

Imogen sighed, “I’m not freaking out, I’m not freaking out.” She said, “But you should know that you can call me any time, I could’ve nipped out and got you while pickle was sleeping. I could’ve called you a cab, I could’ve helped.” She said, holding her hand out to Jim. “And I really don’t want to be your mom. That’d make a few things weird.” Imogen said, colour rising from under the collar of her dress. “I have antibac cream at mine, and fresh bandages, and you won’t have to strain and open the wound if I patch you back up. And I slipped and fell at work the other day so you can pay me back with a full body massage.” Imogen said, reconsidering what she’d said the second she said it. “Joking. Totally joking. I have no idea why I said that or what I was thinking, but if you could just erase that from your memory that’d be great.”

“Don’t worry, no harm done,” he said genuinely, “Sure, yeah, sounds good to me. Do you know a good spot?”
“Not really,” she said when he asked if she new a good place to go,” But we can just go and try some place?” She glanced out of the small shop,” I think I saw a small place just down the way that may have something?”
“Sounds wonderful,” he said, offering her his arm, “Lead the way?”
“I can fix that.”

“No, no, I’m fine!” He said quickly, softening and addressing Callie more than Imogen now, “she just surprised me is all, no harm done.” He pulled his shirt away from the bandaging underneath. He gnawed his lip, knowing the excuse wasn’t good enough, “I was on a test run of a motorcycle and I, well, I crashed, I’m fine, really. Don’t worry about me, just a little sore.”
Imogen watched him pluck his shirt away from his body and caught hold of the hem, pulling it up and wincing at the bandage, soaked through with what looked like dried blood. Imogen dropped his shirt and fixed him with her most convincing disappointed-mum-glare. “We are going back to mine now, I have a first aid kit and medicine, and when was the last time you changed that? It could be infected for all we know! Jim, did you clean it? Get it checked out?” Imogen said, standing up carefully and holding her hand out for Callie. “Come on, I’m not having you walk around like that. You could drop off any moment.”
