I think many ppl have different interpretation for door 11-12. my theory about door 12 is authentic death genuinely means death. everyone is supposed to die in door 12. dying in door 1 - 11 means ur soul will be stuck in the doors forever, but dying in door 12 means u get to be reincarnated. that's the role of the NPC; to kill everyone who passed the doors eventually, until lin qiushi comes along. it's also ironic bc everyone who went through doors are escaping death but lin qiushi, the only person who accepted death, gets to live instead.
whoa whoa whoa!! this gave me so much to think about!! This would effectively yield three classes of "people about to die," right? Regular people without the potential of imminent death aside, there are those facing imminent death who are not chosen by the doors. These people die and reincarnate normally, but they don't get any extra time that surviving a door would give you. People who do get chosen by the doors either die in Doors 1-11, or get to Door 12—which, in your theory, is also death. However, to die in Doors 1-11 sticks you in this paradise-like "limbo" in which you're always confronted with your past life at night and there's presumably no moving on(?). If you successfully make it to Door 12 (or rather, if you choose Door 12 instead of choosing to stay in Door 11), however, congratulations! You've gotten all this extra time to survive, and now you can pass on into the reincarnation cycle successfully? I love it!!!!
