verse: main. the god of sleep watches over the house of hades whether or not his eyes are currently open. is he hanging out in your dream? don't worry about it. he's just chilling.

verse: hades ii. trapped in an eternal sleep, or just trying to avoid the chronos drama? depends on who you ask. this verse can be very canon-divergent. but it can also not be.

verse: modern/human. the definition of rich people who don't do anything. hypnos is a narcoleptic twitch streamer from an affluent family who could not give less of a fuck about his complicated family affairs.

verse: bg3 / d&d / general fantasy. a drow twilight cleric. he has a rare birth defect that makes him, unlike other elves, require regular sleep like a human. he can cast the sleep spell as much as he wants without expending a spell slot. mostly he is looking for a nice spot to take a nap.

verse. dragon age inquisition. human mage fleeing his circle and trying to find his family; likely ends up joining the inquisition by accident. open to plotting. can theoretically be adapted for other da games but this is the one i'm most familiar with.

"wait a minute, i recognize those eyes!" hypnos' memory isn't always the best but now, as he wanders into the dreams of @nymfernal, it has its moments. a memory, his own for once, from the waking world: i think you might be my best friend.

"you must be zag's little sister! wow, you're not so little these days, huh? i think you might even be taller than me!" hard to tell, what with him floating. (he does that on purpose.)

and i'll probs say something like this on eris too but the main difference between them (the ragebaiting twins) to me is mostly that hypnos has a good heart and eris doesn't. like 70 percent of the time when hypnos is being a bitch it's because he genuinely is not reading the room. (thirty percent of the time it's to be a bitch and it's hard to tell which is which with him.) he's kind of an airhead but he's got the spirit. even if that's displayed as him trying to suggest that thanatos kill everyone on earth at the same time so they have more time to hang out together. whereas eris is chaos and strife, she is always in it for the problem causing, and she has absolutely no line she won't cross. what can she say? it's in her nature.

it's also interesting in how this differs in their dynamics with mother nyx, who we can tell from various dialogues doesn't really know how to handle either of them. hypnos, not really understanding why she's disappointed in him, makes excuses, likely internalizes the idea that he's not good enough but keeps hoping for her approval.

eris, on the other hand, rebels and acts out. if nyx doesn't want her, fine, she doesn't want nyx either.

hypnos is incredibly powerful (powerful enough to put zeus to sleep in the iliad, to put the entire house of hades to sleep in the first game, etc) he just doesn't care enough to use his immense power most of the time and i think that's beautiful.

in zag's defense, nyx kids seem to be like 99% of the non-shade non-fury population down in the house of hades.
