“Do me a favor and go away.” Kingsley said after locking himself away in the Gryffindor boys’ dormitory.
She leaned onto the door frame, sighing. “No. Let me in.”

He didn’t know what to say. Truthfully, Landon never knew what to say but now as her fingers tugged at the fabric of his robes- just barely but enough- not a single word existed in his mind. It could have been the champagne that turned his brain fuzzy but there was something about feeling her presence again that had him hypnotized. Even if it was just the gentle pull of stuffy fabric. “I wouldn’t blame you.” Eventually the words slipped out but his gaze shifted down. It was the only thing that made sense. To him at least. Poppy had earned herself more than a few complaints towards him.
His words sobered her up as if she had been hit with a blast of icy air, the smile freezing, then slipping. It hadn’t been what she had meant. But then again, when had the two of them ever been on the same page? It seemed that had a talent for carrying on two completely different conversations at once. “Landon...” Maybe it wasn’t worth correcting it. Maybe this was how she should leave it, try to move on into a year where she wasn’t hopelessly stuck in old feelings that coloured every interaction with her old friend. “I’m glad we ran into each other. We didn’t quite make it to our plans last year.” They hadn’t quite made it to the new year. She kept her voice light and smiled, hoping he’d believe that the thought didn’t make her as sad as it did. Then she let herself wonder for a moment whether he was thinking the same thing. Before she could say anything else, she spotted an older blonde over his shoulder, beckoning to her. “Duty calls. Maybe we’ll see each other again before this is over.” Her shoulder brushed against his as she walked toward her mother, determined not to look back.
After dinner, Poppy crept away, notebook in hand. She trudged through the hallways, eyes sweeping back and forth until she found an indent in the wall that seemed to be missing a suit of armour. With a quick jump, she pulled herself up onto the ledge and curled her legs in. Soon enough, the notebook was flipped open and propped up against them, and her quill was flying across the page. It was only when she spotted movement from the corner of her eyes that she stopped writing. “Can I help you?” She asked, open pages hidden facing her chest.
DATING PERSONALITY
Your results are in! You are... The Sonnet
Deliberate Gentle Love Dreamer (DGLD)
Romantic, hopeful, and composed. You are the Sonnet. Get it? Composed?
Sonnets want Love and have high ideals about it. They’re conscientious people, caring & careful. You yourself have deep convictions, and you devote a lot of thought to romance and what it should be. This will frighten away most potential mates, but that’s okay, because you’re very choosy with your affections anyway. You’d absolutely refuse to date someone dumber than you, for instance.
Lovers who share your idealized perspective, or who are at least willing to totally throw themselves into a relationship, will be very, very happy with you. And you with them. You’re already selfless and compassionate, and with the right partner, there’s no doubt you can be sensual, even adventurously so.
You probably have lots of female friends, and they have a special soft spot for you. Babies do, too, at the tippy-top of their baby skulls.
Sister’s Keeper?
“Poppy!” Kingsley shouted once more, fearing the worst. He hadn’t been quick enough. And even if he had, Kingsley would not have known what spell to use; how to save her. He was ridiculous - not even able to protect his own sister!
Shaking, Kennilworthy took Poppy in his arms, tears threatening to leave his eyes. And once she was out of her unconsciousness, Kingsley finally let himself breathe. “I’ve got you- I’ve got you…” his voice broke, “No…thank Merlin…” Kingsley gulped, and looked at her broken body, “Wh-what do I do?” he asked panicked, truly having no idea.
She let her head rest on him, breathing through the pain and trying to take account of what hurt most. Everything stung, and there was blood on her hands making her woozier with each passing second. Her voice was bordering on hysteria, “I don’t know. I don’t know. What’s happening? Have you seen Mum and Dad and the others?”
Hand shaking, she picked up her wand from nearby and aimed it at the Death Eater who had started advancing on them. The tip of he wand waved as she murmured confringo. The curse was weak, but enough to send the man slamming into a wall, knocking him unconscious. Tears were streaming down her face, breath ragged. “I don’t think I can move. Something is broken.”
She wasn’t so sure. All she wanted to do was give up: to close her eyes, let the pain consume her. Falon had been hauled away, the torture barely stopping. Andrew was Merlin knows where doing Merlin knows what. All of her family might not have even been alive. The only thing keeping her going is how much of an inconvenience it’d be to her friends: how much it would hurt them. Looking up at the girl, Dom’s eyes drooped only slightly, but she kept them open, hoping they’d find a way out.
Poppy had two options. She could sit with Dominique and wait, or she could go in search of help. Neither would be very useful to the two girls, and part of her felt like she couldn’t leave the younger girl, but unless she left, she would never get help for the girl before her who so obviously needed it. She reached out, ran a hand down Dominique’s arm, and forced a smile. “You’re going to be okay. The aurors will be here soon. But until then, I’m going to go find some help, okay? I’ll be right back.”
“Nothing wrong with delicate.” His eyes flickered up towards the dress. It was beautiful and she was beautiful in it. But his knowledge on dresses was fairly limited past that. Though the way she described it, his mind went to that phrase of beauty is pain and he couldn’t help but press it. “Besides, I’d hardly called crushing your rib cage delicate. Not to mention the shoes. Doesn’t make me think I’ve got room to complain wearing this. Sure, it’s a bit stuffy but in comparison-” Landon shook his head from side to side, smile lopsided to the left, following the slight tilt of his head. He was trying hard to find the right words but it was difficult. Seemed he was more spewing the first thoughts that came to mind with his fingers crossed. She always did make him rather nervous.
For a moment, she could feel the awkwardness leave, replaced with Landon’s nervousness and her rapidly beating heart, it was like old times. The shoes were pinching her toes, the dress was crushing her, and yet she was feeling more comfortable than she had all night. Reaching out, she gently tugged on his robe, smiling softly. “I don’t know.” Her voice had a hint of a tease in it. “I can think of a few complaints.” He had always looked better in regular clothes, in her opinion. They both had, in regular clothes all the pretenses could be cast aside. It was much harder like this to cut through the walls. Not that they would be able to anymore. Her smile slipped a little bit, but her hand remained.
Huddled against the wall, Poppy clutched her wand to her chest and tried to ignore the blood that was pouring down her arm and covering her hands. She had gotten turned around running from a figure in a black cloak, and had somehow ended up crouched in a dead end hallway, praying to the fates that she would be able to run or fight her way out. Or even find somewhere to hide. Then she heard the footsteps, and in a split second propelled herself into the empty bedroom. The footsteps drew closer as her eyes through the room, over the half empty bottle of alcohol on a dresser, over the bed, and eventually on the wardrobe. Compressing her dress, she shoved clothing aside and closed herself into the cramped darkness. But she had underestimated exactly how forceful her dress was, and moments later the doors popped back open and she let out a quiet scream as she saw a face peering back.
Dominique didn’t feel alive. Maybe it was wishful thinking, praying she was dead, because in reality, there was still suffering and chaos around her — she lay in a crowd of bodies, surrounded by people who didn’t deserve to die. That thought made her want to try, however, to not take her like for granted: she wasn’t gone, not yet. Opening her eyes slowly, the blonde looked up at Poppy, eyes emotionless but not fully gone, not yet.
Dom’s eyes fluttered open, and Poppy let out a sigh of relief. “You’re going to be okay,” she lied through her teeth. She wasn’t foolish enough to believe that she would be able to be carry the younger girl somewhere safe; neither her muscles nor her magic were strong enough for that. She wasn’t enough to help her housemate. She needed one of her brothers, or something. Smoothing Dominique’s hair away from her face, Poppy bit her lip as she thought of ways to get the two of them out of the bodies that were strewn around them.
It was excruciating. The torture may have stopped, but the pain hadn’t, still crushing her bones, tightening her throat, and she could scream – if that was possible. Dominique lay on the ground beside multiple bodies, unable to find the will to move or the will to go on. She just wanted it all to be over, the agony, the fighting. A figure stood above her, and secretly, she prayed it was a Death Eater: maybe they could make it stop.
She dropped to the ground beside the familiar blonde, reaching out to shake her. “Dominique. Dominique!” The older blonde had spent the night running around the house, ever since the first scream had heralded the coming of the attack. She’d been searching, looking for Kingsley, and Tinsley, and Jasper and Stirling. Looking for her friends. Looking for Landon. Every way she turned, she seemed to have run into trouble, barely missing spells. A few had grazed her, one cutting her arm open. And then she had stumbled across Dom, dropped to the floor beside the girl. “Please be alive.”
Sister’s Keeper?
“Poppy!” Kennilworthy shouted when there was a flash of green light.
There had been two spells. Two masked figures. Two victims - attacked by the masked figures. One was Kingsley’s very own sister and another girl close to her. Both went flying back, hitting the wall and ground.
Despite his efforts (however poor they were due to Kingsley’s lack of ability), Kingsley failed to save his sister. And now…for all he knew…she could be…
“Poppy!” Kingsley’s voice cracked once more, coming up and falling beside her body - his expression lost and pained.
@poppysk
The Death Eaters had come out of nowhere, surprising Poppy and the stranger to whom she had been feverishly chatting, trying to find help for Dominique.
She had turned and noticed Kingsley just as the two spells were cast, one green and one red. It was all she could to to brace herself for pain or for death when the spells collided with the two women, blasting them both backward. There was an impact, a sickening crack, and then Poppy felt herself hit the floor as everything went black.
But the relief of unconsciousness was all to brief, and within second she was aware of Kingsley screaming her name somewhere above her. She groaned loudly, tried to move and the groan morphed into a scream of pain.
“Kingsley.” She murmured. “Am I dead?”
He took it, not because he wanted it, but because she insisted. And with her fingers brushing his skin, all fight in him had gone stagnant, lost within the few moments of their lingering touch. Landon could barely manage an audible, “Thank you.” Her response to his compliment made him nervous, watching as she swallowed back the lump in her throat. He thought perhaps to say she was welcome but it didn’t feel right. Felt too much like a gift instead of the truth. “Just like you said, pink with flowers. It suits you.” Landon shifted his gaze downward, catching glimpse of his robes, a bit loose and rather simple. He supposed that suited him.
Once the glass was securely in his hands, she moved hers away, flattening down the front of her dress. Her heart felt as though it had stopped until she forced herself to take a deep breath and everything restarted. “You’re welcome.” Her eyes drifted down to the dress, a small smile tugging at one corner of her mouth as he spoke. “Thank you. I wasn’t sure if it made me look too delicate, and it’s done up really tight, but I’m glad it looks good.” Truth be told, she had loved the dress from the moment she had laid eyes on it, but the second it was on she was afraid it made her look too much like a work of art, something to blend into the background and be occasionally stared at. But the words soothed some of those fears, even if only for a moment. His plain robes would have been a nice contrast to the pale extravagance of her dress, though she never would have said it aloud.
“Good,” Kingsley said in a sure manner, “None of these blokes live up o the requirements of getting your interest. Not even Purebloods are good enough.” Kennilworthy shook his head with a small snicker. He held too high of standards and his own family in high regard, “No. If no blokes are good enough for you, then no lasses are for me.”
She let out an impolite snort. If only he knew. “Well, then I suppose you’re just going to be stuck dancing with me for a while. If Mum lets me dance. I think she’s just expecting me to stand around and look nice, and make conversation with people who want to talk to me.” It was the only explanation for how tightly the dress had been done up. “Are any of your friends here?”
