âWatches: A Guide By HODINKEEâ Is Brandâs First-Ever Book Since 2008, HODINKEE has amassed a tremendous following through its digital media footprint covering all things watches.
Photos and words by Atif Kazmi for Por Homme
In America, the suburbs arenât dying, at least thatâs what researchers at Mercedes-Benz are telling us. Instead, theyâre expanding and the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and GLC 63 S Coupe are here to quickly shuffle your active family from one ambition to the next.
The âburbs have been hated on for quite sometime. As urbanization has swept the land, living outside the cityâs been looked down upon. The reality is that the suburban lifestyleâs not as bad as folks have it out to be. And if youâre thinking about or just starting a family, things like space, security, and convenience might all be pulling you out of that 600 sq. ft. apartment in Lower Manhattan to something more comfortable 30-40 minutes out.
The number of folks working from home at least some days during the week is growing, spawning super commuters that are able to take advantage of city opportunities while still making it home to escape the craziness. Those that can skip the city altogether are building lives in more rural areas, staying close in proximity to family, friends, and work.
Nowadays, kids seem to have busier schedules than us, jetting from one after school activity to another. From school to piano lessons to soccer tryouts, specialties have them scattered as well. Points of interest are spread all around town and sprinkle in your own needs for work and leisure increase the things we demand from our daily driver. The SUV continues to rise to the top and it continues to win out where it matters the most â suburbia.
Success of the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 might be proof enough, with its rapid rise to becoming the number one selling SUV and overall car for Benz, overtaking the C-Class. Itâs balanced versatility with luxurious detailing and plenty of tech to already become the car of choice for so many. The mid-model refresh for 2020 takes things even further. Though subtle, the front fasciaâs hosts a number of changes including a more aggressive lower front design and the headlights coming in closer to the grille to create an âAâ shape thatâs consistent with many of the new Mercedes-Benz cars. Like the fronts, the rear taillights now also feature LED optics that help to elevate the GLC well beyond its class. The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 gets an AMG grille and a jetwing design on the lower part of that front bumper. Wheel options for the GLC 300 range from 18-to-20 inches while the GLC 63 jumps up to 21 inches. The GLC 63 S Coupe gets much of the same but with its signature swooping roof styling for added maneuverability on the road.
#gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
We drove both the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and the GLC 63 S Coupe through New Yorkâs Putnam and Duchess counties, giving us the opportunity to feel the power Mercedes-AMG is pushing through the two SUVs. Handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter biturbo V8s can be found under the hood of both, but the GLC 63 S Coupe breaks the 500 horsepower mark while the GLC 63 still carries a healthy 469 horsepower number. Both let you feel it when you punch the pedal but itâs worth noting the GLC 63 S Coupe has a 3.6-second 0 to 60 mph time, two-tenths faster than its GLC 63 sibling.
Regardless of weather, the Mercedes-AMG GLC performs with confidence. The rear differential lock is now electronically controlled as standard so that helps to achieve more precise handling and better control as youâre flying through elevation changes and winding roads. AMG Performance 4MATIC+ AWD with fully variable torque distribution helps push the GLC 63 to its limits but AMG Ride Control sport suspension helps tremendously with stiffening things up as youâre hitting the back country roads.
Step into the cabin and thatâs where you begin to see Mercedes inject some of their latest tech to seamlessly blend what the ownerâs doing in the rest of their lives with the journey theyâre about to take inside the GLC. The Mercedes-Benz MBUX infotainment system is standard here and lives through a 10.25-inch center touchscreen display. âHey Mercedesâ natural language understanding is on board as well, allowing you to simply say the prompt and ask it to do everything from finding the nearest coffee shop or finding other points of interest. Navigation now has augmented video, an industry first which overlays directions atop a live video feed from the GLCâs front camera. The multimedia package with navigation and AR is standard for the GLC 63 as is the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Surrounding the tech is tasteful execution. The upper dash features contrast stitching alongside aluminum trimmings. Sport seats are standard here and they look great but the Mercedes-AMG performance seats are hard to pass up. The seats in the rear fold flat to accommodate for more groceries, home goods, and whatever else youâll need to toss in while a power lift gate makes loading and unloading a heck of a lot easier. If you open your door before scanning for traffic, Mercedesâ blind spot assist with exit warning stays active for three minutes after shut off of car so itâll stop you from opening the door in case thereâs a cyclist or car flying by.
The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and GLC 63 S Coupe get a mid-cycle refresh that wins with details. See more in the gallery and head to your Mercedes-Benz showroom to experience it in person.

The Audi E-Tron Sportback has been unveiled in LA, bringing a coupe-like crossover option to the German automakerâs all-electric lineup. The difference between the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback is mostly in design and the latest additionâs also getting some more range because of it. For all the chatter the Aston Martin DBX created through teasers and spy shots, the official unveil of the British automakerâs first-ever SUV delivers in a big way. Weâll wait to see how the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from AMG drives and feels for ourselves when the opportunity allows but, for now, its design and road presence are enough to discuss.
#gallery-0-7 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-7 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-7 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-7 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Built atop Astonâs new dedicated SUV platform, the DBX translates a centuryâs worth of innovation in making some of the best luxury sports cars on the market to a new form factor. It features an aluminum body structure thatâs light and stiff, allowing it to be agile and confident both on and off-road. Up front, youâll notice the brandâs signature grille alongside LED headlights. The daytime running lights feature an integrated aero duct, helping to reduce lift and drag while cooling the brakes. The swooping roof allows for clean air flow lines right through to the rear wing, over the rear window and on to the rear flip. Thatâs a design element weâve seen on the Vantage but itâs been tastefully translated here with proportion and refinement in mind. The DBX features an all-glass panoramic roof and frameless doors, helping to keep weight down while letting in more natural light to help make the cabin feel more open than it already is. Glass B-pillar finishers give us some fine detailing while cutaway sills help in narrowing the stepover required to enter.
#gallery-0-8 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-8 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Step inside the handcrafted cabin of the Aston Martin DBX and youâre met with more rich, full grain leather than we know what to do with. Both the headlining and electric roof blind can be had in Alcantara while thereâs a tasteful execution of metal, glass and wood throughout the cabin. Details now come in a range of innovative materials, including a fabric made from 80% wool. A new flax composite also provides a welcomed alternative to carbon fiber. The bridged center console allows for flexible storage below, a fully open rework of the lower pockets weâve seen in the DB11. For a more personalized experience, Q by Aston Martin can help machine the center console from a solid piece of wood, such as Walnut, for added tactility. Thereâs a range of wood, composite and metal veneers to choose from, helping to making the Aston Martin DBX truly yours.
The Aston Martin DBX is a true 5-seater with function and purpose in mind. The sports seats that help with long-distance drives while freeing up a good amount of space for those sitting in the rear. 40/20/40 split folding rear seats help you make the most of the DBXâs load capacity. The narrow load sill opens to a broader aperture, helping to maximize the practicality for everything from suitcases and golf bags to ski equipment.
The debut of the DBX reaffirms Aston Martinâs expansion plans and marks the start of production at their second manufacturing plant. Itâs a massive leap into the future for Aston Martin and theyâre doing it without forgetting their 106-year history.
Pricing for the Aston Martin DBX starts at $189,900 USD. Speak to your local Aston Martin showroom now as first deliveries are scheduled to begin Q2 2020.

The view from the bi-level penthouse of the newly renovated Hotel de Paris in Monaco is tremendous. The street right below plays host to the Monaco Grand Prix every May while the Monaco Yacht Club sits right past it. The palace sits out in the distance and tourists can be seen taking photos and going in and out of Hermes and other boutiques that line Avenue de Monte-Carlo. And even with all the luxurious touches throughout the square-mile city-state, thereâs nothing quite like seeing the sun rise over the Mediterranean. The Hotelâs renovation was a four-year project that ran the bill up to nearly $300 million, with the ultimate goal being to modernize the iconic establishment while preserving what made it so special in the first place. With the introduction of the all-new 2020 Bentley Flying Spur, the goals were similar and just as ambitious.
With a 100-year legacy on the line, anything Bentley does now is met with scrutiny. Loyalists are holding on to the brandâs storied history while a younger generation is waiting to be pulled in with technology and a future-thinking approach to luxury. JP Gregory, Head of Exterior Design for Bentley, and his team have been up for the task and theyâve already proven themselves through the success of the all-new Bentley Continental GT. But although many of our favorites elements of the GT have made their way into here, the Flying Spur is focused on an experience thatâs as engaging for the driver as it is for the folks in the back. Itâs like a double-sided coin where losing isnât even an option.
Those looking to purchase the all-new Flying Spur understand this quite well. Theyâve put in countless days and nights to achieve the highest level of success and arenât showing any signs of letting up. Theyâve also been the ones flipping the coin and writing their own paths in the process. For the journey, thereâs no alternative as versatile.
#gallery-0-16 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-16 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-16 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-16 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The all-aluminum body work is a massive shift from past generation Flying Spurs, making this the most nimble Flying Spur to date. Muscular fenders give it a confidence stance and the lightweight structure helps translate the W12âs monstrous performance figures into numbers that are startling for a sedan of this stature. The 626 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque give the all-new Flying Spur a top speed of 207 mph and a 0-to-60 time of just 3.7 seconds. The engineâs got an intelligent cylinder deactivation system that delivers a 500-mile driving range and fifteen percent more efficiency over the outgoing model.
#gallery-0-17 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-17 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-17 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-17 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Help from various innovative features makes driving the 2020 Bentley Flying Spur more enjoyable and easier. All Wheel Steering helps with the carâs turning circle at low speeds and delivers more agility and maneuverability on the open road with less steering effort. Blend this with the luxury sedanâs All-Wheel Drive system and Bentley Dynamic Ride and how you drive it has become as bespoke and customized as its interior.
#gallery-0-18 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-18 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-18 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-18 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Our time with the Flying Spur throughout the South of France had us maneuvering through tight, winding roads as well as open highways. We drove but also gave the reigns so that we could be driven. Itâs remarkable that the invisible veil between the front and rear makes for such a stark contrast between the two. Everything you see from the driverâs seat caters to the driving experience while there isnât an element or amenity you canât access or adjust from the back seats. The touchscreen ejects as the press of a button and quite literally puts everything in to the hands of the person being driven. This includes everything from controlling the glass-to-glass panoramic sunroof to just about anything you might normally access from the 12.3-inch Central Display thatâs a part of the Bentley Rotating Display up front.
#gallery-0-19 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-19 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The luxury sedanâs interior features a contemporary design thatâs balancing innovation with contemporary, impeccably-crafted detailing. The Bentley Rotating Display may be the first thing to grab your attention but thereâs plenty more to keep you there. The quilting design in the seats and doors pulls inspiration from what weâve seen in the new Bentley GT but has it going all the way through in a way that adds more richness and 3D dimensionality. If youâre looking for even more depth, opt for the 19-speaker Naim audio system.
Bentleyâs commitment to the next 100 years goes beyond the cars and SUVs that ultimately land on the roads. The process and resources used to bring them to life matters also. Thatâs why our friends in Crewe have announced the completion of UKâs largest ever solar car port at the Bentley factory. It covers over 1,300 parking spaces and ensures that all electricity used to manufacture every Bentley is solar or certified green.
#gallery-0-20 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-20 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The introduction of the 2020 Bentley Flying Spur proves that true luxury is uncompromising. Itâs also the finishing touch on what has been a remarkable year for the iconic British brand. See more of the Flying Spur in the gallery and look for it to land in Bentley showrooms soon.

 Bentley isnât done with their 100th birthday just yet as the most recent round of celebrations took place this past weekend spanning several New York City boroughs. The festivities started at Citi Field with a massive gathering of classic, modern, and yet-to-be released Bentleys. Current owners were invited to bring their own cars for the historic moment. Once private tours of the stadium and breakfast finished, everyone was handed a route guide and a Bentley-branded flag as we made our way out to our respective vehicles. Before the parade even began, we were able to soak in some of the brandâs history. The lot was filled with a diverse run of Crewe-built cars including the T-Series, Arnage, Brookland, Continental GT, and beyond. The new-generation GT and soon-to-come Flying Spur were in the mix as well. I personally had the keys to a 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 in coupe form. Weâve covered it in the past but to experience it first-hand in the New York City and Northern New Jersey areas where many will land into the hands of customers reaffirmed our previous thoughts â this is the Grand Tourer to have in your driveway.
 #gallery-0-13 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-13 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-13 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-13 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
 We went from Queens to Brooklynâs Belt Parkway and Brooklyn Bridge before entering Lower Manhattan and making our way into Brookfield Place. Imagine somewhere between fifty to a hundred cars driving together (as possible) throughout New York City boroughs. It sounds like a mission but one that would get the attention of anyone passing by. Now imagine itâs a parade of Bentleys only and then toss in the occasional helicopter fly over to ensure this occasionâs being full documented. It was quite the experience, one Iâm not sure any other carmaker could or should try. The majority arenât hitting a hundred years anytime soon and their histories simply donât warrant such ambitious undertakings.
 #gallery-0-14 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-14 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
 Once we arrived at Brookfield Place, Bentley reserved an entire floor in the parking garage to ensure that no matter what direction you looked, Bentley wings were all you could see. Outside, the public was getting up close and personal with a few of Creweâs modern gems on one side and walking through a concours on the other. On display was the recording-setting Bentley Continental GT from Pikeâs Peak as well as the Bentley EXP 100 GT Concept â Bentleyâs ambition take on the future of Grand Touring. The new GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga Hybrid were grabbing attention as well.
 #gallery-0-15 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-15 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
 Vintage Bentleys in pristine condition were on display with some owners ready to give an oral history of their prized vehicles. Boy, if these cars could talk.
 #gallery-0-16 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-16 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-16 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-16 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
