yo takashi shirogane is the biggest “fuck you” to the bury your gays trope i’ve ever witnessed. 

the whole trope is based around the fact that, even in the most bloody, brutal, unforgiving shows, there’s always that one bulletproof character – the one that never dies, the one that always comes back, the one who you know is going to make it to the end of the story alive – and they’re pretty consistently straight. it’s never a queer character. the queer characters are usually the ones who succumb to the circumstances of the stories they’re put into. 

then you have fucking lieutenant shirogane who was suffering from a chronic degenerative disease, was kidnapped by aliens, was forced to fight in gladiator fights, escaped a hostile alien ship, fought as a paladin, fought the leader of said hostile alien race, was tortured, was experimented on, was cloned, DIED, CAME BACK, AND WENT ON TO CAPTAIN HUMANITY’S FIRST BATTLE CLASS SHIP IN ORDER TO PROTECT EARTH FROM SAID HOSTILE ALIEN RACE. 

like..WHAT!?! against all odds, that man always came back and never succumbed. 

shiro is the only gay character in this show and he’s our bulletproof character.
