He flicked a glance down at the hand on his arm, then back up at Draco’s face.

“…You’re really committing to the basilisk bit, aren’t you?” he said, amused.

Zacharias reached over, plucking the blunt from Draco’s fingers with practiced ease and taking a drag himself. He held the smoke for a moment before exhaling slowly toward the ceiling.

“Also,” he added, voice hazy with drink and smoke, “it’s Parseltongue, genius. If you’re going to make questionable Chamber of Secrets jokes you should at least get the vocabulary right.”

He passed the blunt back, though instead of dropping it into Draco’s hand he held it there for a second—close, teasing—before finally letting go.

Then he noticed Draco was still touching his arm.

Zacharias raised an eyebrow.

“Oh?” he said slowly. “We’re doing… this now?”

There was no real accusation in it—just curiosity and a little alcohol-fueled boldness.

He didn’t move away.

Instead he tilted his head slightly, studying Draco with a crooked, lopsided grin.

“Careful, Malfoy,” Zacharias murmured. “You keep looking at me like that and people might start believing the rumours.”
