Every rewatch reminds me how strange Merlin is.
It goes from one of the most serious episodes ever - we think Merlin is going to die, Morgana is being super evil. To Gaius being taken over by a goblin who makes Uther bald and gives donkey ears to Arthur.
You really can’t make it up!
No one can convince me otherwise that the Arkenstone isn't one of the Silmarils. In particular Maedhros' Silmaril that he cast into a volcano along with himself.
It's such a hypnotically beautiful jewel that it must have been forged at some point and who else than Feanor could make something so splendid. We know that it was on the way to Lindon that Maedhros and Maglor did their final betrayal and took the two Silmarils. Who's to say that that couldn't have been near the blue mountains. That he didn't wander until he found a mountain all on its own. A mountain that at that point was a volcano - how else could the Dwarves make those bellows and forges work so effectively? Such a jewel would be incredibly difficult to destroy so it just got stuck in with the fossilised lava as the volcano retreated.
You have to admit, it explains the Gold sickness. We saw what a Silmaril did to Feanor and Thingol and ... well everyone else who came into contact with it. If they couldn't have resisted it, how could Thror or Thorin. Even Thranduil seemed entranced. The Arkenstone is a Silmaril and somewhere in Erebor you'll find some remnants of Maedhros' corpse!
Four years on and I still believe in this with all my being!
"I don't like JRK but I still love Harry Potter"
You have blood on your hands
Burn your fucking Harry Potter merch or be burned with it.
I'm fucking livid.
Got the Hobbit films on (as per usual) and my mum asked a very simple question "when was the last time that Gandalf and Galadriel saw each other". Spent the next hour explaining some rather niche lore regarding Tolkien's extended world.
Not sure she really appreciated it - but she did let me blather on about all my hyperfixation knowledge which is greatly appreciated
Help settle an argument please.
Tolkien told us that Elven pregnancies take a long time (like a 100 odd years). We can presume that humans have 9 month pregnancies like we do.
But what about Dwarves and Hobbits?
Sam and Rosie have 4 kids in less than 3 years so how short are Hobbit pregnancies? 4 months? 5 months?
But what about Dwarves? How long would their pregnancies last for? They live for a long time (not as long as the elves obviously) so it would make sense that their pregnancies last for a long long time. But how long is that? I know thedwarvenscholar has suggested about 4 years for a pregnancy? But is that realistic?
Any ideas?
So JKR is anti asexual now to
Anti-asexual discourse has always been a canary in the mine when it comes to anti-LGBTQ stances. First it's trans people, than ace people, then gender non-conforming people, then bi people... it will just keep going until it's every queer person.
I looked up the tweet to confirm it was real (because even now it was shocking), and she doubles down (as she always does) in follow up tweets.
JK Rowling has targeted asexuals on International Asexuality Day, branding it: 'Happy International Fake Oppression Day'
It’s always felt like the way TERFs hate Asexuals is related to the fact that we kinda fuck with their narrative by existing.
They can’t spread transphobia on the back of gender essentialism that says people with penises are animals with no impulse control, if simultaneously it’s generally understood that some people (which includes some people with penises) just don’t have that sexual impulse.
If asexuality is real then a lot of Radfem rhetoric starts falling apart.

Before her father died, Bilbo Baggins swore him a secret, that no one would ever find out that the steadfast heir of Bag End was female. No one could ever know that she was, in fact, not a he. It was a secret she had planned to keep until the day she died. She didn't expect, however, for Gandalf the Grey to turn up at her doorstep with a company of Dwarves who wanted to reclaim their homeland from a dragon. Nor did she expect to follow after them.
But she did. Because she felt something towards their story. Because she knew, deep down, what it meant to not truly have a home. And it definitely had nothing to do with their leader with his heroic figure and his haunting voice. Nothing to do with Thorin Oakenshield at all.
She followed them on their dangerous journey across the world. But she knows that she has to keep her distance. It doesn't matter how charming they are or how kind. None of them can know. She has to keep it secret. She must keep it safe.
Bad news, y'all
You really gotta write the damn book to become a published author
Right, I read a Hobbit fic that was Mulan-esque with a fem-Bilbo but none of the company (except Gandalf) know that she’s fem. It was filled with the usual glorious Bagginshield fluff and with the company slowly realising that Bilbo was a she but not treating her any different for it. And I fell in love with this concept and I need more.Â
Can anyone help a girl out and send me some similar recs please???
I may or may not be writing this … planning to start uploading it on AO3 when I’ve got a few more chapters if anyone would be interested
Only taken 4 years but it is slowly being uploaded into AO3
ya pero~...
Reading is political and it always has been. Here are some of the classic books on the banned list that you should definitely check out.
And here we see the sad queer in their natural habitat, crawling pathetically back to tumblr the minute ao3 goes down to check the tag
The “That’s immoral you shouldn’t write that, we need to get that taken down” discourse on tiktok right now is PISSING ME OFFF
Wdym you want censorship for a literal ARCHIVE are you fucking stupid
Ao3 was literally founded to preserve works that were largely getting taken down due to censorship
Censorship is the opposite of what Archive of Our Own stands for
The TAGS and WARNINGS are there for a REASON. Use them and stop complaining
The universal rule—don’t like, don’t read
It’s THAT simple
real writers don’t have writer’s block because they never start writing in the first place.

It’s been four years and I haven’t been able to find any other fics so I’ve decided to just write it. It’s called Keep It Secret on A03 if you’re interested
If anyone is interested, I’ve finally decided to start writing again. Think Mulan meets Shakespeare meets Tolkien ideas for hidden identity stuff
