w i t c h e s : mermaids
mermaids - though no longer technically able to weild magic - were at one time witches. when a truly powerful witch is killed in a manner of unnatural means, she is given new life through the sea. most often a gift granted to water witches due to their affinity with the ocean, they wake among their sisters, and live beneath the waves for the duration of their immortal lives. angry with the dark turn their former lives took, mermaids wander the vast waters in search of those who wronged them. their songs lure unsuspecting mortals into their arms, and they thrive on dragging them to the deep.

There was a right answer and the true answer to her question as he rested against the hard wood. “I…did some prostitution in my time, which was good for multiple parties, but it’s tied with my love for being a hitman.” Oh, it scratched that itch like no other.
He watched from the corner of his eye as she seemed to beg for attention before him. She wasn’t exactly doing that, but it sure looked that way to him. “Trying to be nice, I guess. Trying to have some human interaction. It’s like when you ask someone how their day was even though you don’t give a shit. Just being kind.”
A shrug came from the man’s shoulders at her request, “good enough for me, luv.” He planned to get lost in the remains of the poison instead of working on the bounties that were begging for him to clear.
☠ ♕ ➺ she was going to maintain the silence but he had answered her question, and from what she could tell, from the little she knew about him, he had answered it properly as well. and he was being kind. well, that was a new one for her in a way. kind for the sake of a conversation in the face of their competition. she threw her head back as she swallowed down the last of her drink and held her glass out, an almost irritated huff leaving her. “thank you, for being kind,” she said softly, doing him the respect of actually turning and looking at him as she thanked him. she took a sip of her drink and canted her head to the side. “i enjoyed prostitution for the same reason, it made me a better killer. also, the idea of men paying for something they could get for free in a bar if they tried even a little, always tickled me pink,” and she shrugged and grinned a little, leaning against her book. she was happy to let the conversation fade there. for her, the silence would be comfortable. if he wanted to speak, she would be more than happy with that as well.
↱- lost with them
(Thank you so much for saying which one it was so I wouldn’t have to look lol <3)
“Fucking great directions, luv. Can’t wait to get jumped by some junkies in the back of this fucking alley! Where the fuck…,” the bounty hunter trailed off as he searched for any familiar landmark. “Alright, sweetie. Get that ass to the top of the building. I refuse to get stabbed next to a garbage can that smells like eggs.” He sprinted at the wall and leaped to its side, jamming his knife into it like a climbing ax.

Roman gave a stare that demonstrated how he wasn’t amused with her petty joke before stepping past her with a brush of his shoulder. “Really? I would never have guessed. If I learned anything from being an amazing thief, I’d bet my bottom dollar that our pal is hiding in the building with the two goons hanging outside that totally aren’t paid guns.”
☠ ♕ ➺ she laughed anyway. it had amused her. “if i’m going to have a reputation problem, i should at least be the cause of it,” she replied, following him along. she peered down the street at the two men standing gaurd and she grinned, clapping his shoulder. “would you like to do the honours and remove our two friends, Roman, or shall i?”

Her plan was working. In every second of her presence in the bar, every moment she smelled Persephone’s minions that hid in the crowds of the room, she had conquered. Persephone may not have noticed this, a plan she had hidden from everything else. It was clear she Warlock had a pack. And it would be easy to disconnect her from them. See how strong she really is without her cunt-fucking groupies around…. The moment Selene saw those fangs, she couldn’t hide the smirk that lifted on her lips. It was beautiful, the sign of a threat, the growl of annoyance. Selene was stepping into their territory and she was getting the exact reply she wanted. Selene leaned in as well, her own territorial threat rumbling in her chest. It was then that the Darkness latched onto the table from her palms, an acid, only meant to burn one thing. “You don’t seem to understand what I’m saying.” The lights above them throughout the entire bar flickered…then died. There was noise. Gasps of surprise, the occasional chair screeching–probably from Persephone’s partners–and then silence. The back alleys of the City were like all the others that the Golden age once held. Dark, musky, smelly, it was the City’s equivalence of the swamp. But tonight, a blight appeared not too far into one of the many long empty hallways, far from the bar, and the screeching of Taken portals bounced off the walls as the three individuals appeared through them. Selene adjusted her dress before turning to the confused group. “Now, I know you guys were so busy with the date,” her growl grew as she spoke, a deep rumble that even shook the ground beneath them. “but it only took me a moment to realize something.” Behind them all, the lantern popped, lightbulbs shattering, leaving them in the now-darker alleyway. “You are a… hmm, how can I say this? You call yourself the Queen. You rule an empire, ordering your slobbery soldiers around to do your dirty deeds–yet the thought still hits me.” Shadows expanded, dark creases and holes turned into black corners, the corridors behind them darkening. The Weight of Darkness surrounded them, and it only took a spark in her mind to either take it all away or make them suffer through it. “You’re no wolf, as you claim you are. A wolf shows honour. Strength. They open their jaws…not their legs…” Selene’s armour materialized over her dress, what looked to be blessed by the Ahamkara, yet it was blessed by a whole other entity. Her high shoes morphing into her heel boots, a deeper sound that echoed with her chuckle. “You’re nothing but a mutt.”
Now, if Persephone’s Titan, even herself, decided to strike, Selene would have any of them pinned. Her knife in their throats, necks snapped in two, or even beating their skull into the wall, there was no way out of it. Either one of them would be submitted by Selene’s hands no matter how they attacked. If they attacked. It was inevitable. She gave no worry, waiting for a response–if she was going to get any–when a tickle hit the back of her neck. A sign from the web of Darkness she had set up around them. Now, it was Selene’s turn to laugh, a deep throaty laugh that the Darkness chorused into. “It seems your Hunter has already picked up the trail.” Her hand lifted, and the ground rumbled for a moment before said Hunter was thrown out of the dark. A thin black lance erupted from the ground, impaling the Guardian against a nearby building. His sniper dropped to the ground. “I just wanted to talk,” Selene snarled, her own fangs appearing from behind her lips. “A forced one, yes, but I didn’t want to hurt anyone. Don’t threaten me, Persephone. I won’t hesitate to kill every single one here.”
☠ ♕ ➺ now she was just sort of getting annoyed. this was getting convoluted and the other, whoever she was, just wouldn’t take the hint. she wasn’t interested. she didn’t care. there was only one of her people in the bar, and that was Caius. whatever else she was smelling, well, that was her problem and her senses gone haywire. Persephone didn’t need to travel in large packs, in a large group. it was far too much hassle organising that many people. small and efficient, that was what mattered. she gave an annoyed groan as the lights went out and she rolled her eyes a little. it was going to be a long conversation, like talking to a brick wall. she could feel it in her bones. the relocation was unexpected, but it didn’t throw her entirely. she glanced around, a vague sense of boredom rolling off of her as Caius did the same, taking it in. oh, this bought back memories. she had run through alley ways like this, normally with something in tow; rifle, drugs, other people. now this, this was taking her back. as she started talking, rambling really, an annoyed huff left the Warlock and she pinched the bridge of her nose, eyes shutting. she had forgotten about this bit. the vague and boring taking some strange exception to her attempt at building. this had happened last time. no wonder she had blocked it out. her eyes opened to see the Hunter. her eyebrow raised and she looked at the other woman. “i hate to be the bearer of bad news, sweetheart, but that one-” and she gestured lazily to the other being speared on the shard of Darkness. “-is not mine. mine is not nearly that sloppy, so whoever it is, perhaps redirect your paranoia towards them, hm?” she canted her head slightly and started pacing a wide circle around the area. “i feel though, i need to clear the air, because your information, whoever you are getting it from, it’s terrible, honestly and i would stop paying them,” her fingers brushed brick, rubbing the grit between her fingers. “i was once a Queen. and i mean to be a Queen again. at this current point in time though, i am in the empire building stage. can’t be a Queen without a kingdom, correct? so at this point, i’m maybe more of a philandering warlord, than royalty. i appreciate the compliment however,” she paused and held up a finger. “for the record though, my soldiers don’t slobber. unless you happen to like that sort of thing,” she shrugged in acquiescence and continued on her pacing. “i have to say, for a modern woman, that is a very out dated view, you hold. why does it matter if i open my legs? what could it possibly mean to you? should i be in the kitchen instead? waiting for my husband to come home? i will use my sexuality and my body as i see fit and i will not answer to you about it, or anyone,” and she gave a small laugh. “your romantic view on wolves is adorable, however. i never proclaimed to be a wolf, you gave that to me. but for a wolf to show honour? oh, my dear. maybe you need to spend more time with wild animals? a wolf is a beast. a predator. a survivor. there is no honour, no beauty, no glory in surviving. it is just living, or dying. it’s that simple,” she stopped again and peered at familiar, sparkling goo, having nearly come full circle to look the other woman in the face. “if you wanted a conversation, my dear, than why not simply speak with me? i’m not an unreasonable woman. i wouldn’t have turned you away. but i do not take being hunted and stalked lying down. if you had used your words, rather than your party tricks, we could still be sitting in the bar, having drinks and doing this properly. so, what is it you want? what is it you wanted to speak about? use you words. speak to me, i’m listening,”

Oh how he hated the Tower and everybody who filled the large building. They were all pompous zombies that barely knew how to fight for their lives while also considering themselves to be the heroes of the universe. It irked him beyond his limits and forced him to be more of a thief than ever before.
“I remember being a stripper. That was fun, really. Probably the second best job I’ve ever had,” he daydreamed. The attention from others was nice to him, but the main reason for the career was to be able to afford food when stealing wasn’t the best option. He’d done a lot of the professions that she listed and simply marked them all down as “gun for hire”. It didn’t quite matter what the job was, that was what he called it.
The hunter didn’t bother to look at the other criminal as she spoke with such a silver tongue that nearly sliced his ear at the sound. Clearing his throat after another sip, Roman responded, “does it matter if I believe you? Because I really don’t care. All that matters to me is clearing this bottle.” His glass clanked against the whiskey before pouring himself some more.
☠ ♕ ➺ she hummed. stripper had been her favourite as well. it wasn’t just the attention. it was the manipulation. it was the people paying money, so much money, for not even seeing the whole thing when it was available for free. it was that power over people, something she always liked. “agreed, second best job i’ve ever had. what was your favourite job then?” she asked curiously, a small grin on her face as she took a sip of her drink, still looking at her book. “not really,” and she gave a small shrug. “it doesn’t matter if you believe me. but i am curious, my dear, if you didn’t care, why ask?” and she canted her head to the side a little, looking out of the side of her eyes, clinking their glasses in cheers again as he upended the bottle over his glass, still set on emptying. “i’m dying for the conversation after all,” and she looked up from her book and actually look at him. curiouser and curiouser. not that unusual a sort of attitude considering the people she had once know, but an unusual attitude for the other Guardian’s she had met. “oh never mind,” and she shook her head and waved her hand at him, going back to her book. “you don’t care, i don’t require the conversation. silence will suffice, silence and your whiskey bottle,”
I want you to burn. I want you to feel the sun soaking through your pores. Feel the light destroy your lies, reduce your excuses to dead skin floating in the breeze. I want you to see the fire, the feel the heat. Embrace your death. And awaken anew.

It’s an easy kill… Take her by the throat, the Titan wouldn’t have enough time… She fought the thought away. The scratching in the back of her mind subsiding. But it came back. You’re Hunting her. So start Hunting. She took a breath, giving a small talk towards the waiter. She hummed quietly enough, and the now empty shot glass she was holding turned to frost between her fingertips. “I need a strong one,” Selene purred, “Give me the best one you got, hun. Give me something that even a Goddess would tip.” The bartender chuckled with a nod, and he was gone again. Selene gave no worry to the individual sitting in the corner of the bar. No, the spectre in the corner couldn’t be related, could it? But when a waitress appeared from behind the kitchen, walking in front of their view for nearly a second and leaving… the shadow was gone. An illusion. One of her tricks. If Hecould do it with his own minions, why not she? She had her drink and, at last, the unwanted barkeep left to deal with other customers. Finally, when their own little corner of the bar counter was emptied, she began her own Howl. The table underneath her palms reacted, low black fog slowly drifting from her fingertips like a rolling wave. It was hardly noticeable… but any Guardian in the room could feel it, even without contact. They would know what it was; the very enemy they were born for. The tapping continued, a constant rhythm. click click click click…. click click click click…. A heartbeat with an authentic pulse. If anyone was in any close proximity of her magic, they would hear them. They would hear Him. A masked voice, unknown, muttering enchantments with his two Daughters. A beautiful song, only heard of by her victims… Or accidental trespassers. Persephone… Queen of the Underworld… What power she must have, what respect. What the Warlock did not understand was this;
Selene was her own Hell.
When her message got across, the clicking stopped. And so did the voices, black mist dissipating into the air. “I would just hate to interfere your beautiful moment,” a growl echoed in her chest, “But you see, Titan, I’ll need to speak to your girl for a few minutes.” Her voice didn’t just reach their ears, it rolled up their backs, chills down their spines, her very voice seemed to make a mark. And her molten eyes finished the show, locked on the two from the corner of her eye. A challenge?
☠ ♕ ➺ her tongue ran over her teeth and she felt the rumble in her mind. the growl of the wolf. the warning rumble deep in his chest. she glanced at Caius who leered at her. he desired the wolf. he lusted after the doe. he needed her in all her forms. she could feel the magic climb up her back. feel it thread into her hair and sing in her blood. oh, it wasn’t quite magic, was it? it was just the Light they all had, just altered slightly. it was how Caius was able to react, and every single other Guardian patron. it was why there was a mass perking up. a mass sudden awareness as they all tried to sniff out what it was, where it was coming from. and still, Persephone faced her Titan. no, she would not be intimidated by cheap parlour tricks. the heart beat, the voice, the rhythm. it was, not unsettling to her. it was the sound of life. it was the echo of the living; believing in good or bad; evil or otherwise was just so limiting. she tilted her head to the side to listen. and she laughed. her head tipped back and a lilting, musical, bell like laugh left her lips. her hair tumbled as she laughed and her eyes shut as she turned her chair slightly to look at the intruder. she had not been invited to their evening. no, Persephone was a ‘by appointment only’ sort of woman. her eyes were sharp as she turned and looked at the other, fangs nearly on display. “and you’ll have to forgive us both. you see, my dear, it’s date night. and you-” she leaned towards the other, a small snarl issuing from her lips as the wolf grizzled under her breath. “-you were not invited. and you’ve been very, very rude. if you wish to speak to me, i will meet you at a later date. any message you have, until said date, will not be considered,” it wasn’t a debate, there wasn’t a discussion. it wasn’t negotiable. anything that the other had to say, literally or otherwise, would be ignored. and Persephone was exceptionally good at ignoring things. if she was afraid, she didn’t show it. fear, fear was an old friend of Persephone’s. it wasn’t something that was useful against her. “now, sweetheart, what day suits you best? i’m free most days except maybe tomorrow, i have another darling boy coming in to meet me,” Caius simply turned to the face the bar, carefully sipping his port but obviously not planning on going anywhere.
A wolf? Is she normal, is she real? An impostor, a liar, a thief? All those questions blurred in her mind, the darkest part of her mind, as the Huntress watched her, hidden from sight. The corner of the bar was a handy place, a spot adjacent to a window, golden eyes lurking from underneath her hood. A threat? No, not even close. She was testing her. Selene didn't want her to notice, but feel her noticing. Not hunting, but observing. A Wolf in human clothing... (from Devilbeneathherfeet)
☠ ♕ ➺ predators could tell when something else had stepped into their territory. persephone could feel the eyes. it was like the other was standing next to her, pushing against her back. it didn’t bother her. any trouble and she could handle herself. and if she couldn’t, she could always rely on good Samaritans to come to the aid of the distressed Warlock with the fluttering lashes. she simply sighed and took another sip from her drink.
a Titan; older and striking approached her and she smiled brightly at him. a quick conversation later with her hand resting in the middle of his chest, words muttered into his ear and he turned and looked at the figure in the corner. unabashed, he grinned just a little as she continued to speak into his ear before taking a seat next to her. her observation had been acknowledged.
devilbeneathherfeet
She focused on the two with no effort, the smells and sounds of the bar were tuned out and the only sound she focused on was their own. Nails continued to tap against the table, a constant rhythm, the only thing that gave an idea the shadow was alive. But those eyes stayed on target, never shifting. Does she ever need to blink? Her plan was thoughtfully put in motion. The Titan was a thick wall that she needed to get through. It didn’t matter who he was. It only mattered the he was there. If you can’t bust through a wall, why not try leaping over it?
A woman in a tight blue, backless dress stepped up to the seat, taken beside Persephone’s. The man was clearly bashed, eyes glazed over, head dropped low to the bar counter. The woman placed a hand against the male’s back, fingers spread across his shoulder blades, a comforting gesture, some might say the first move of a woman in need of said comfort. But not this one. She leaned down against his ear, raven black hair brushing against his face as she whispered through the loud music. “I think you should move…” Just before the drunken idiot leaned up to comply, the whispers began in his head. No, not whispers… screams. Whispering screams. It fought against his skull, rattled in his bones, rang in his ears. The weight pressed against his back through her hand sent a cold shiver down his body, a pressure built up in his stomach, any gravity fluctuating inside him. He didn’t double over, he didn’t scream. No, the voices in his head did that for him. The pain, the screams, the song, the hatred…
“Sweetie, you don’t look so good,” The woman said with concern. And just like that, the individual stood from his seat abruptly and headed towards the bathrooms on the other end of the bar. And we have a winner. Selene sat down, the smirk of victory on her lips. The bartender was in front of her immediately and with a tilt of her head and a promise in her smile, he had a glass of liquor in front of her. All while this was happening, the spectre in the corner of the room vanished behind a passerby.
☠ ♕ ➺ when the woman appeared at the bar next to her, she felt her self tense. her eyes fell to Caius and they shared a moment. she didn’t enjoy being boxed in. she didn’t enjoy being stalked. she could handle it, but the shift in the room didn’t suit her at all. she took a sip of her drink, but remained at her seat, chatting with the Titan casually. he kept an eye on the figure in the corner and she kept an eye on the figure in blue. it was too much of a coincidence to consider that they weren’t related.
Caius’ face hardened when the woman sat down next to Persephone, essentially behind her with the way the Warlock had twisted in her chair to face him. she smiled at him and cupped his cheek again, pulling him in for a gentle kiss before brushing his hair from his face. “you look extra handsome tonight,” she told him with a grin and he smiled a little, leaning into her hand. this, this was a waiting game. and despite the feeling of being tracked and trapped for no reason that she could really figure, she would not make the first move or show her hand.
no, if there was a message to be had, she would not be picking up the receiver. it would have to be delivered. “have you seen Ajax recently? he’s meant to be back soon, right?”
a nod and a sip of port, senses peeled but the conversation was casual. “he landed this morning i believe, complaining about Venus’ humidity not suiting his hair,”
Most species bare their teeth as a threat, as a display of aggression, of leadership. It is a reminder that these clenched jaws can and will open your yielding throat. I want you to think of this next time I smile.

Caius Tyrantus
Class: Titan
Specialisation: Sun breaker / Striker
Age: ???
Personality: A gentle, friendly soul despite everything Caius will speak and get along with everyone. Even the guy he has to shoot in the face in five minutes. It’s not personal after all, business is business. Unfortunately for him, he is very loyal to whom ever he is employed under. This often works against him, and it seems like it would be even worse under Persephone, but for whatever reason, she respects him and returns that loyalty with loyalty of her own. It’s not like she has never been loyal before; after all, it was not her that did the betraying. There is a genuine affection and tenderness between the two of them that is not really offered to anyone else. If a ghost of her past were to speak, they would suggest a similarity between him and Hades. That ghost would then be promptly shot. This affection by no means indicates an exclusivity; Caius is free to pursue whatever earthly delights he so desires: male, female or otherwise. It does mean that whoever he is with though will always be competing with Persephone, and she never comes second.
