Porter Squiggle
Sometimes, simplicity is key! It was nice to take a step back from working with really symmetrical as small shapes and instead take on a really organic and fun design. I used the brush tool, which I don’t use very often, to make the squiggle!
Fallen Star
This was a fun little pop of color! Figuring out perspective was my main challenge in making this happen, but I was satisfied with my work in the end.
MIT Dome
The color scheme on this building was difficult because it was so similar to each other but I still had to ensure that there was enough of a difference. The curvature tool was important in forming the main dome.
Clock Tower
The small details on this tower were hard to figure out initially. However, after realizing the symmetry in the tower, it became significantly easier. Adding shading was a challenge for this project.
Purdue Bell Tower
The perspective on this building was very challenging to figure out, as the different colors tended to look very disparate. The shadows and pillars were eventually made using rectangle tools and manipulated by the pen tool.
Sather Tower
Better known as The Campanile, this tower was really fun to work on. I enjoyed making the stylistic choice of cutting off the bottom half of the tower (as the bottom doesn’t have as much detail). The color palette was hard to figure out, as differentiating the colors while making them cohesive was difficult.
Cloud Gate
Trying to mimic the metallic coloration of the bean was really difficult to do without having shiny colors. However, the curvature and stark colors were fun to experiment with.
Freedom Tower
This iconic structure was fun to do, since it played around with shading and geometry. The 3D element of the disc at the top took some figuring out.
Tea Museum of Meitan
The curvature of this building as well as the shading posed an interesting roadblock. Certain parts of the image were hard to smooth out!
Pershing Square
The geometry of this building is super fun and I loved using the monotone purples. The shading was very interesting, but it was nice to figure out shadows!
Tommy Trojan
Can’t help but show off some school pride! The human shape was an interesting challenge, because of the small nuances and curves. Nonetheless, it was a fun way to explore the pen and curvature tools to create small details.
Statue of Liberty
Playing around with the different greens to represent shadows and some movement was very fun for this piece. In addition, figuring out the smaller elements (like the fingers) was a fun challenge!
Walt Disney Concert Hall
This structure is as whimsical and fun as Walt Disney himself! I loved all the really organic curves as well as the subdued color scheme without quite sticking to a monotone.
The White House
This iconic house was very nice to do because of all the fun windows and designs. The kind of monochrome was a little bit difficult to do because of the subtle differences in whites.
Pyramids of Giza
The crosshatching on this piece was very fun (but also super meticulous) to do! The pyramid shape and shading was fairly simple, but the lines add some extra dimension to the piece.
Washington Square Park Arch
This beautiful arch was fun to do, and playing around with minute details was super interesting. In addition, the monotone white/gray was fun to play around with.
National Fisheries Development Board
Located in Hyderabad, India, this whimsical buildings is one of my favorite ever! It’s such a literal representation of the organization it supports and has the most interesting structure. Also, it’s just plain fun to see when you’re heading down the highway.
