The world ended but kept on spinning. It wasn't any one thing; if it was a single throat, we may have cut the noose. But from what we can remember, it was a Hydra all at once and no escape.

Preacher is the protagonist of my unfinished novel. This blog is meant to develop him and his world. Details provided below may change as he's developed and as continue to write out his canon IRL.

The world as we know it has ended. The world that was- is referred to as the 'The Before' by Preacher's time. It was not any one thing that led to the end but a series of ecological, economic and nuclear disasters.
Preacher belongs to a group of scouts nicknamed 'Johnny's' who work for the remains of one of the domed cities that popped up as the world was falling apart. The city's dome shattered decades back, but it's become one of the few surviving settlements of it's type in the Northern Americas. They still have much of the tech and knowledge from 'The Before' and have even begun to expand on it.
Working other such cities and organizations Johnnys have begun to leave the City to establish contact with the surviving tribes of humans scattered across the continent. Johnnys hope to establish trade, provide aide, map the environment and recover lost media*.
Preacher is a Johnny in his mid to late twenties who follows a religious and philosophical movement called 'Brahm' or 'The Way of the Brahm'. It is common among Johnnys and The City but not so much the rest of the wasteland. The Brahm emphasizes good works and good deeds and forbids it's practioners from preaching or discussing their philosophy with outsiders. Preacher's nickname is therefor ironic.
𝙰𝚙𝚙𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚌𝚎: Preacher is slender standing at about 5' 6". Jaw-length blond hair, green eyes and sharp features and downward pointing brows that make them look perpetually furrowed.
𝙿𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚘𝚗𝚊𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚢: There's a part of Preacher that always seems closed off even when he's smiling and being friendly. He's good at playing friendly, he can be funny with a gallows humor and deep patience and compassion for those around him. But gather even those closest to him together and each would only have a few broken pieces of the puzzle that makes up Preacher's past. Even those small pieces don't look pretty. So what you're left with is the image of man who's seen the worst and sickest humanity has to offer and still doesn't know if he can handle it.
𝙿𝚊𝚛𝚊𝚙𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚗𝚊𝚕𝚒𝚊: A loosely woven shirt, trousers that are belted with braided leather, boots he has repaired himself, duster style jacket he's also self-mended. A wide-brimmed hat to block out the sun and pair of goggles. He also frequently travels with two horses Huginn (a palamino crossbreed) and Muninn (an appaloosa) who carry his surveying equipment and bags of what are called Seeds**. He also always carries syringes to treat his 'condition'*** as he calls it.
*Books, movies, photo albums and the like are highly sought after by the surviving 'Tribes' that have sprung up. The City has also begun carefully cataloguing and attempting to preserve these items for human prosterity.
**Seeds are small transparent almost glass like organic machines that can serve a variety of purposes. Preacher has one Seed he carries on his person that can be made to expand into a dwelling for him and corral/shelter for his horses. The rest can be made to expand and be aborbed by the earth to become a kind of super fertilizer as they absorb radiation andother pollutants. The Seeds are activated by being breathed on. In extreme circumstances they can be used as weapons where they can be thrown or made to shoot out of one's hand and burrow into a living being rapidly converting the body into plant matter and fertilizer.
*** Preacher is a transman and is relatively cagey on the subject outside The City. In The City his status is known and accepted (gender fluidity in general is common and normal there) but it's not accepted in some of the Tribes which is why he's wary. The shots are his T, which he's been on since his teens. He has had top surgery.
Preacher raised his hands and slowly turned on his heals toward the stranger. His mouth stretched into a reassuring grin. "Sorry. Reckon I'm lost, didn't know there were tribes this far west." A lie, the only reason he was here was because there'd been reports of a tribe in this area. He hadn't even brought his horses, the hope had been to observe and gather information before he or other Johnnys approached. That had been the plan anyway.
"What's your name?" He asked continuing to act friendly in the hopes of easing tension.
I hear a throat begging to be cut. (( from feyd, maybe not necessarily about or at preacher ))

Preacher's brows furrowed, thin lips contorting into a frown. He liked Feyd, or at least liked to think he did. He pulled Huginn in front of the other man blocking his path. "No you don't." He said firmly. "We don't kill."
As long as they travelled together, those would have to be the rules.
Brother Sun, Sister Moon is a movie I cannot defend or rationalize. In fact there are things I objectively hate about it* ** ***. And yet is constructed and performed in such a way I'm genuinely obcessed with it.
*The soundtrack is inane, with Donovan's lyrics literally describing what's happening on the screen.
** Graham Faulkner's performance is at once mesmerizing and also really off in some scenes. Of the depictions I've scene of St. Francis' life his does feel the most true to the actual historical figure, but at very key moments it fumbles hard.
*** How it handles Chiara/Claire is bizarre. It acknowledges her being accepted in the order and having her hair cut was radical but the scenes with her family's reaction seem to be cut but we do get it's aftermath. It's very odd.
He chuckled and performed the trick again, a Seed in his hand made to disappear and reappear. "It's just a trick," He said tossing the Seed to her. It would feel clear and glassy in her hand. "I can show you how to do it. It ain't hard."

Preacher had heard of the the lionborn, and was wary. The Books of the Brahm taught to beware of false prophets, those who preached of heavens they had never been too. But there were those who swore by them and sought them out, even other Johnnys.
Gonna be blunt with y'all, Preacher has a lot of hang ups and difficulty letting his guard down fully with people. So I'm not super sure how 'shippable' he truly is. But you are welcome to shoot your shot or discuss other types of dynamics with me.
