Week 30 & 40

On Wednesday, I have an appointment at the hospital - to be induced (yikes), but then the hospital cancels because they are too busy!  So I go in on the Thursday.  They insert gel to thin out the cervix and I have to stay overnight in the hospital for an induction the following day.  At 10am I'm officially in labour and by 1pm I'm sucking on the gas!!  The pain is overwhelming and rules my next decision: get the pethidine, then try an epidural.  From then on I'm able to enjoy the delivery of my baby boy, Lucas, who arrives at 10.15pm on 30th September 2013.  He is the picture of his daddy, with mummy's eyes.  I am so in love with this little person!

Week 38

Peter arrives in Sydney two days before the expected due date and our renunion is loving.  He's already missed so much, but thankfully he'll be here to welcome our child into the world.  My doctor extends my induction date until the following week.  He's satisfied that my glucose reading have levelled out and I'm happy because its gives Pete and I more time to spend together before the baby arrives.

Week 37

The Doctor concluded that my overall glucose levels are not satisfactory and says I need to be put on insulin.  Not happy Jan!   Women who are on insulin are usually induced at 38 weeks and that's only a few day away, yikes! After consulting with another specialist, my doctor gives me a repreive for another week and I could hug him for this as I was not looking forward to being induced!!  I'm booked into the hospital one day before week 39 and Pete will be here just in time for the birth!

Week 36

Owing to the gestational diabetes, I have to have another ultrasound to check the baby's size.  Everything's fine and the baby fits into the average weight range.  Phew! i'm relieved and predict that he will be about 3.5kg at birth.

Have decided to pamper myself and use the gift certificate that I received from my work baby shower to have a lovely facial and manicure.   Oh it feels so nice to simply relax and have nothing to do .... 

I decide to hunt out my sexy maternity lingerie and Skpe call Peter in Perth ......

Week 35

The house is amost set up now and I've been washing every inch of it (my nesting instincts kicking in!) and I've actually been enjoying it too!  I've still managed to fit in an afternoon nana nap and my internet is finally connected so that I can contact Pete.  He's amazed at the size of my belly!

I've also been painting the new baby's room and adding little personal items.  It's such a wonderful feeling of motherhood.  I love it!

Week 34

My baby is getting bigger and his movements are now becoming noticeable even to a person standing nearby.  I'm also getting some cramping in the groin area, which is sharp, quick and painful.  Is this branston hicks?

Week 33

At last, my final day at work! Yippee!  The girls at work throw a lovely last day, maternity leave lunch at the local pub and it gave me an opportunity to wear some of my new maternity dresses that I got online at www.sweetlillymaternity.com.au a few weeks ago.  I also bought some jewellery to accessorize but had to stay with the ballet flats as my feet are getting so sore!

Week 32

For weeks now, I've had to stand up on the train while all eyes divert from me.  I've even had people race past me to get a seat before me.  I'm disgusted!

Week 31

I can tell the baby has changed position because the movements have moved up past my navel.  I move home in a couple of weeks, so I need to change hospitals and doctors.  This distresses me somewhat.

Week 29 & 30

I meet with a specialist and a dietician to discuss how to manage my gestational diabetes.  The anwer: eat low GI products and good carbohydrates and exercise.  If its not managed well, the baby could put on too much weight.  Sadly this means no more chocolate andn ice cream.  Thankfully I can still eat the nuts and dried fruit which I've also developed a craving for recently.

Week 28

This week I have a glucose test.  It shows a high glucose reading and a second test confirms I have gestational diabetes.  I'm told that my body isn't producing enough insulin to properly process the sugar in my system, so I'll need to keep an eye on my diet.

Meanwhile, Peter and I decide to give our relationship another go and endeavour to spend as much time together in one city as possible.  Our friends and family are overjoyed.

In my quest to achieve the 'pregnancy glow' I find another celebrity favourite.  This time thanks to Aussie Presenter Toni Pearen.  I love this colour dress but worry that I won't look as good as she does.  Mmmm, only one way to find out.....

Week 27

I wake at 4am in excruciating pain.  It runs from my chest down to my navel.  Concluding that a trip to the hospital is my only option, I lie in bed for five more minutes because I'm so tired.  Then I let out a ripper fart, and all pain subsides.  The situation amuses me no end.
