I haven’t written on here in such a long time, but I am still following Philipp’s career, and it makes me so proud to see what he has achieved so far; all the projects he has initiated or has been a part of.

Winning the European Championship: The Work in Progress
Winning the European Championship: The Work in Progress
Well, this is to bad. We can’t seem to overcome the “semi-finals” curse, yet nothing lasts forever. I am hoping for a much better display next time. Frankly, I believe we have done the best we could with what we had. At the same time, there are still things to work on, and there is no reason why we can’t lift the trophy in four years, or even get another world title in two years. (more…)

Well, today’s performance was a disaster. I such high hopes in 2013...
What Bayern needs is a coach who cares about the club as much as our captain does.
Apologies
I would like to apologize to everyone who has ever read this blog and everyone who still does read it. I am sorry I have not been very active for the past several months. There are so many things/other topics I want to write about that there’s not always enough time to do everything I want to do. Lahm has been writing for Goal.com, which makes me quite happy. Not so much the website itself, but…

Is Bayern finally awake?.. I sure hope so.
It’s like living in the Van Gaal’s era. The no-hype part of it... which was baaad...
I miss the sense of security that I felt during the Heynckes era. The feeling that things were getting better and better.
Lahm strikes again, and I love it
Lahm strikes again, and I love it
Since it’s in English, I’m just going to leave it here. Lahm’s take on the Ballon d’Or situation. It’s a good read, in my opinion. Everyone is free to disagree, but to say that he’s writing this because he’s upset? C’mon, people…

Happy Birthday, der Kapitän!
Happy Birthday, der Kapitän!
Life has been pretty busy, which is a good thing, but I couldn’t miss out on wishing Lahm, the one and only, a very Happy Birthday! True, the recent home match against Arsenal was the first game I got a chance to watch in quite some time, yet that did not and does not affect the fact that my favorite player is still Philipp Lahm. I wish you all the best! May you be healthy and happy! Stay the…

Summer Camps & Football Matters
Summer Camps & Football Matters
I have been trying to find out where Lahm’s summer camps are held this year. At first, I thought they would do it in three cities. (Where did I get that from? No idea.) Needless to say, I was definitely excited about the program’s expansion. Now I’m thinking that I must have misunderstood the information, and there are three “shifts”/sessions for his Sommercamp, but all three will be/are in…

The Subtle Difference: Chapter IV – Part II
It has been one year since die Mannschaft won the World Cup. What a glorious day that was! I vividly remember how nervous I was, how happy I was. I cannot even imagine how it would have felt if they had lost. So, cheers to the team and the staff, and to us all! I am going to celebrate by posting another bit from Lahm’s book. The usual disclaimer: since I do not want it to be printed out and used…

I was looking for some pictures to celebrate the one-year anniversary of winning the World Cup and then decided it would be fun, to make a post like this :)) photo cr.: the owners
So okay…
1) Manchester United needs defensive midfielders. Like, really needs defensive midfielders. (They need midfielders in general but you know). Bayern does not. Pretty much ever since Lahm was moved to DM… the clock has been ticking. Not necessarily because Lahm is a better choice but because Lahm is much more consistent. And Bayern also has Alonso (for now), Alcântara, , Javi Martinex, Gustavo, Tymoshchuk, Rode… it’s a problem (like last season) when everyone is injured all at once but Bayern is not hurting for talent.
2) Many of these players are younger whereas Schweinsteiger is closing in on 31 - generally when you start going on a decline unless you are a keeper or a really, really good defender. Additional injury concerns (that ankle and knee have really been more of a problem than many acknowledge) and yeah, no, even if he was fit as a fiddle his starting spot wasn’t guaranteed by a long shot.
3) Bayern has, the way I understand it, a pretty liberal position with players who have served the club well and want to leave. They let Gomez go to Florentina, Kroos to Real (and Kroos really was worth keeping) so I really doubt that they were showing Bastian the door with a “good luck gtfo.” About the only players I can see them going “hell no” on are Muller, Neuer, and Lahm - maybe Robben but he is not a young duck either.
4) Speaking of - I know I’ve seen posts were people have said they’re letting go of a legend / captain material / super-important person and I agree but…. that was then. This is now. About the only two players with serious, serious clout are Muller and Lahm. And I can’t see Muller having the cajones to push too hard whereas Lahm is, you know, Lahm. And we have already seen what happens if Lahm thinks you’re not doing your coachly duties well. (hint: it ends with the coach going through the door even if Lahm has to pay a fine in the process) Neuer to a degree too, but Neuer is not “Bayern” the way Schweinsteiger, Lahm, and Muller are.
5) Nor is he a merchandising dude anymore. Gotze wasn’t brought on for his amazing talent - it was for the t-shirt sales. (and because Bayern likes sticking it to Dortmund trufax)
So Schweinsteiger is pretty much guaranteed a nice paycheck, a starting spot in the lineup match in and match out (assuming United has an awesome physio who can manage his knee / ankle), and it’s something new when he’s already won all the Pokals and leagues in Germany. I think it’s a good decision for everyone and I.. am not at all surprised it happened. I hope he helps shore up United because they’ve had a lto of problems with a cohesive midfield.
I laughed at the highlighted sentence/phrase/part of the sentence :))
I forget who said it but someone somewheres (maybe you?) commented that the reason Lahm never went to Barca is that Bayern gave him the keys to the castle.
It is the truth and good luck getting those keys back.
I laughed again, thank you :)) I think it’s a mix of, first, Lahm being Lahm, being rational, AND (2nd) being veeeery unwilling to change the place where he lives :) Seriously though, I noticed a long time ago he doesn’t really like being anywhere else; he doesn’t even go that far when he goes on vacation. He really does love his family, and by family he means Munich, Germany, his family (mom, dad, sister, etc.) and his own family. So, yeah... :)
