More of Rory Foster, who is a full-time, self-taught potter based in Austin, Texas. Working from a home studio, Foster creates hand-built, slab-constructed ceramics such as planters and vases, featuring vibrant glazes inspired by nature.
Rory tells: "In the fall of 2017, I changed careers and shifted my world into the limitless realm of pottery. I had never worked with clay or glazes before, but soon realized it was something I absolutely loved and have practiced, every single day, since.
Each piece begins as a slab of high-fire stoneware clay which I hand-build into its final shape. The pieces are then bisque fired and sanded to create a canvas for my favorite part: the design and glazing. My designs are inspired by both nature and negative space in objects. I start with a shape or line and move from there, always with a desire to create movement. Anything from nature—landscapes, sunsets, insects, and birds—guide my choice of colours."
A collection of Rory E. Foster pieces over the years. You will find a journey of color and design stories on platters, planters, vases, mugs
