honestly based on the sheer volume of stuff people are finding as banned and the way it drifts in and out with some tags being “banned” temporarily, I’m guessing this is all really clumsy machine-learning shit of the same sort they use to flag nsfw or recommend blogs based on your likes, and a lot of these were probably just chosen arbitrarily because a lot of posts tagged with those things got reported or flagged. this is a pretty normal thing to do but they’re doing it with the same level of skill as blog recs, which is to say they just can’t
