with parents who were in politics, they never had time for naveen. since he was born, he was entrusted to nannies and caregivers. they made sure he was bathed, clothed, and fed. they made sure he was read to at night and tucked in for bed. his parents were more strangers than they were actual parents to him.
having been read fairy tales his entire life, naveen felt he belonged in his own and as an only, lonely child he created his own utopian paradise called maldonia where he was the prince. even now, its something he still believes in and talks about.
one of his nannies --- a woman old enough to be his grandmother --- first opened naveen up to music. he first heard jazz as a small child and ever since had a love for the genre. it inspired him to pick up instruments as soon as he was old enough to hold them and learn what to do.
naveen has a musician's ear. it takes him a few days to learn an instrument and it's something he's very proud of. he can play instruments common in jazz as well as any other thrown his way.
following the death of said nanny when he was fifteen, naveen went through a period of depression and couldn't pick up an instrument without thinking of her. it took a year before he was able to pick one up again.
naveen's never known a day of hard work. he was spoiled since birth, money and material possessions being a way for his parents to keep him happy in line. following his eighteenth birthday, he was given the choice to go to college or get disowned and disinherited. though he had no desire to continue schooling, naveen chose college to avoid having to get a dreaded j word.
he gets his charm and way with words from his father. his father had always been able to make anyone believe anything that came out of his mouth. it's led to a few scandals here and there but it's nothing they couldn't throw money at to cover up.
