I feel like the kids’ favourite holiday would’ve been Mother’s Day.
We know that the Hargreeves siblings considered Pogo trustworthy and reliable, so I picture him running interference to keep Reginald busy in his office all morning. The kids, meanwhile, would be clattering around the kitchen trying to figure out how the hell to make pancakes.
Luther would be uncertain how to help, until he sees Klaus climbing dangerously up a shelf to reach a bag of flour or something, and appoints himself (as Number One and the tallest sibling) high-object-reacher.
Diego would be waiting to do the actual cooking of the pancakes, so that he could feel like he put in the most effort for Mom’s surprise. In the meantime, he’d be doing a lot of chopping―absolutely unnecessary in the creation of pancakes. His brothers and sisters don’t ask.
Allison would try at least twice to rumour the ingredients into assembling themselves in pancakes because all of the kids’ experimenting is not only inefficient, it’s also making a mess. When she finally gives up, she concentrates her efforts on decorating the breakfast tray.
Klaus would be throwing ingredients into bowls in what everyone else assumes is cooking, but looks more like interpretive dance. His eyes are closed much of the time. Also, he’s wearing one of Mom’s skirts. (He claims it helps him channel her culinary skills.)
Five would be blinking between the kitchen and Mom’s upstairs art gallery, making sure she’s still there and not coming to check on them. He doesn’t realize his efforts to not seem suspicious are, in fact, incredibly suspicious.
Ben would be removing much of what Klaus throws into the bowls. It’s the most hectic job, but no one’s as good at keeping an eye on their brother as Ben is. He just doesn’t want Mom served pancakes with egg shells in them. Or, what’s that, a shoelace? Seriously, Klaus? Essentially, Ben is quality control.
Vanya would be stationed upstairs playing something for Mom on the violin, at Five’s suggestion. For once, she’s happy to be separated from her sister and brothers because keeping Mom in position to receive her surprise is perhaps the most important job of all.
Mom would be… pretending to eat whatever her kids serve to her because she’s a mom first and a robot second.
