“Hey, I thought you were DEAD.” Palm flat against the desk Garrett sets aside his cards, voice betraying more emotion that intended. Two years since he watched her fall into that- that ritual. DYING, he’d thought. Maybe dying would have been kinder to her. Just thinking about what the Primal turned Erin to ( or she, it ) gave him a headache not even poppy could cease.
Pushing himself from the desk the shorter thief finally stands. “I’ve been here, like always.” Garrett knows it’s a bullshit answer and definitely not the one Erin was looking for. It was the truth though, whatever that was worth. He opens a drawner, shuffling through briefly before tossig a small, blunt object towards her. The start of their troubles, he would think.
“ Nice of you to leave the claw with me, by the way. I’ll take it you didn’t need it wherever you left for? ”
Her fingers wrapped around the Claw's handle, and she unsheathed the metal grips with a double click.
"I thought you might need it." She replied offhandedly. Perhaps Garrett was right - if she wasn't so reliant on the Claw, maybe she wouldn't have fallen through the skylight of Northcrest Manor that night. She wasn't about to tell him that, though - and she slipped the weapon into her belt.
Then, she turned back to him. "You thought - you didn't know," Erin replied, equal parts fury and disappointment clawing at her throat. She'd always clung to Garrett, feared his abandonment, and now, in her mind, he'd done it to her twice. "I could have been alive. You didn't know."
One footstep, two, as she drew closer, hands turning into fists as her vision blurred. "You left me, Garrett. Again."

The abandoned house Cauthrien had picked was… well, just as run down and miserable as one would expect of a house in Kirkwall. If no one lived or even squatted there, you knew there was something awful about it. Cauthrien was banking on the idea that this wouldn’t take too long and whatever curse or dark creature plagued the building would leave them alone.
The girl was tied very expertly to a chair, but she was also tied to a rung on the wall. Cauthrien wasn’t all that interested in why the rung was there, it was helpful, that was enough. She was experienced enough not to tie an assassin to a rickety chair.
She was such a young little thing, it was a shame that she’d been dragged into this life. An even greater shame that she’s chosen Cauthrien as her target. But, no matter, Cauthrien needed to know the situation.
A bucket of cold water was always the best way to start an acquaintance.
“You are slow to twist your left heel, it makes it easier to dodge your strikes and get under your Guard.”
Cold water drenched Erin, and she gasped awake as a shiver ran through her whole frame.
Memory of how she got here came before realisation of her surroundings - the Claw, Cauthrien - and then, the feel of rope binding her limbs and pressing her back against the uncomfortable chair. The Claw was gone, too, but if Ser Cauthrien had Erin's tool-come-weapon, the assassin couldn't see where she'd put it.
"I didn't ask for a lesson." Erin replied, tilting her head slightly to the side as her eyes flickered around the room. Ser Cauthrien was still alone, then. She almost wished Garrett and her were still well-aquainted. Almost. There was still plenty to be mad at Garrett about, abandoning her being the first and foremost.
"Well, go on then. You've got questions and I have answers - you'd have just killed me otherwise." Always had to act smart, always had to act like she was on the ball, always had to act like she was worthy of attention. That was Erin all over.
a way of life…

Garrett, the Master Thief.
Never going to be over The Gloom being Erin accidentally impressing her mental state onto the whole of the City. Ever.
Are you okay Erin? Do you need blankets? Hot chocolate? A good night's sleep?

I can’t believe the Thief fandom hasn’t done by now that text post meme, so of course I just couldn’t help myself.
