Out of universe it will never happen because focus is on the canon primarch characters, in universe I like to imagine it would never happen for some "keeping records across the galaxy consistent" esque reasons but some of the more traumatised primarchs with more strenuous ties to their upbringing secretly wishes they could have taken their wives last name in the marriage. To escape what was tied to their old name and be defined by someone who loves them instead.

Someone like Konrad Curze (now) wants to escape both the Night Haunter moniker and the name his father gave him and would jump at the chance to be defined by his beloved instead.

Lorgar Aurelian wants to escape the memory of Kor Phareon.

Mortarion- Wait does he have a last name?

The solution is middle names. Both them and their children being informally referred to with their wives old last name as a middle name. (and whatever is going on with Mortarion- probably an informal last name for him?)

Though not a traumatic background - and Dorn would very much want to keep the memory of his "grandfather" alive- it doesn't hurt that "Valetrez-Dorn" rolls of the tongue quite nicely.
