anatomy is always tricky, it definitely comes with practice and time above all. but that doesnāt mean there arenāt ways to improve quicker! this may be a yap so iāll put it under the cut ww
mainly, i do a lot of pose/figure studies, working from reference! itās important to focus both on the structure of the body, but also not forget that itās okay to stylise things so they feel more dynamic. so sometimes i do studies where i break down the pose into simple, structural shapes, like these:
but other times itās good to do quicker, gestural sketches, focusing on speed and fluidity before anatomical accuracy.
feel free to use the sketches above for reference in how i break down poses though!
in general, the main thing is to not give up! anatomy is very difficult, and regardless of how experienced someone is theyāre bound to make some mistakes. if you feel like youāre lacking in structural knowledge, i recommend you check out morphoās anatomy books, or prokoās āanatomy of the human bodyā tutorial series on youtube! both of those helped me immensely in terms of understanding the human body, but they require a little more attention than just keeping at it
ā so thatād be my main tip! keep at it! studying can be very frustrating, so itās good to get into a mindset where you treat all your sketches equally. regardless of how good or bad they turn out, once theyāre done, move on to the next one. keep doing that and suddenly youāll have a sketchbook full of pose drawings! even if some of them donāt turn out how you wanted, i can guarantee youāll find at least one youāre proud of, and thatās all the motivation you need. i believe in you!!
