Arthur stared up at the ceiling.
The prince held in an annoyed sigh as the body in bed next to him shifted again, yanking the slice of covers that had laid over his knees right off, leaving him bare once again.
The sounds of the other boys snoring and humming in their sleep made Arthur glare into the dark with envy.
Rarely did Arthur get mad, but it was about two in the morning, and there was only so much that even he could take. He’d been excited when it was announced that it was his and Kiel’s turn to share the bed for the sleepover. At first, Kiel’s blushing and stuttering had been adorable. And of course, Arthur still found him adorable–irresistable, even.
Kiel lay curled up on the other side of the bed, buried in the covers he’d yanked off of Arthur in his sleep. The sight would have been cute if Arthur wasn’t freezing and exhausted.
So now, after several attempts to steal the covers back, Arthur finally let out a small sigh.
There’s only one solution, his mind told him.
Arthur rolled over until Kiel’s small body was just a breath away from his chest, and he gently tugged the covers on top of both of them.
In his sleep, Kiel hummed and shuffled back, pressing his back against Arthur’s chest, soaking in the warmth.
Arthur smiled and, warmed and content, fell asleep.
Arthur woke slowly, reluctant to meet the day.
He heard murmuring and giggles, but exhaustion still held him under. What felt like only seconds later, but could have been an eternity, Arthur finally blinked his eyes open.
Sunlight filtered in behind him from the window, and Arthur found himself uncomfortably warm.
Also, when he tried to move, he found his limbs trapped, and his eyes dropped to the small body against his.
Kiel was faced away from him, but judging by the hitch in his breath when Arthur shifted, the boy was awake. A quick glance around told him that the other boys had already left.
“Kiel?” Arthur murmured, rubbing an eye, “What time is it?”
“Er…” Kiel cleared his throat, “Almost eleven.”
“Oh, Kiel–I’m sorry–I didn’t mean to oversleep.”
Kiel craned his neck, and his warm eyes found Arthur’s. That’s when he spotted the pretty flush on the boy’s cheeks.
“It’s okay,” he said with a kind smile, “I, um, figured that I might have been a bad sleeping partner. I mean–Forte says I would take the covers when I was little, and…. that hasn’t changed, I don’t think.”
Arthur observed him before smiling.
“On the contrary,” he said, to which Kiel’s eyes widened, “I slept extremely well. Thank you.”
Kiel’s face turned beat red before he buried his face in his pillow, mumbling something about making breakfast, and Arthur held back a laugh. Sleeping habits and all, Kiel definitely was too adorable.
