“Oh you’re part mermaid then? Does that make you a merman?” She chuckled. “Well if anyone can tell be about this sea and swimming it would be you”
he chuckled “i find merman such a weird word,” he laughed more “I guess, I can’t turn into one or anything it doesn’t work that way,” he said “but I can hold my breath a long time,” he shrugged. “definitely,” he chuckled.
“Well on the Isle it wasn’t that safe to go swimming”
“I know,” he chuckled “my mom is a mermaid, well, was, which makes me part mermaid.” he chuckled “i’ve been under the sea, but I can’t change into one, my grandfather helps us out with that. there’s some scary things under there, but on top, it’s pretty alright.”
“Very true, plus Im sure there’s nothing in this water that will kill me” She laughed
“that all depends on how far you go,” he chuckled “but staying near the shore is completely fine.”
“Maybe, I kinda want to learn, especially since the water is so pretty” She smiled.
“yeah exactly, I mean now that you’re here, why not? Might as well learn,” he smiled back
“That sounds nice, the water here is so clean and cold” She smiled and looked down at her feet on the wet sand. “Well you have time to figure it out”
“yeah,” he smiled maybe I can teach you sometime,” he said nodding, he didn’t mind and he was a good swimmer anyway. “yeah I do, I’m still sorting things so, we’ll see.”
“Ive always been repulsed by swimming because of the dirty water and now I don’t have to be repulsed anymore. It’s weird’ She shrugged. “Oh thats awesome, what are you doing instead?”
“yeah I guess so,” he chuckled “the water is great, i grew up basically in it,” he said softly “but I’m more like my mom, i prefer the land,” he nodded. “not sure yet, still looking into it really.”
“I guess so, but it seems weird to me though” She said. “You too. Are you a student at the University?”
“how so?” he asked curious. “Yeah no I’m not, I decided not to do that but I think it’s cool for whoever does. my girlfriend does.”
“Yep, the water is super gross there so I never wanted to even try to learn” She shrugged. “Its ok, a lot of people don’t realize. I’m Cleo”
“yeah, makes sense,” he chuckled “but now you could learn if you wanted to.” he told her. “cool, to meet you.”
“I wouldn’t know, I don’t know how to swim” She shrugged shyly. “We didn’t really have places to swim on the Isle”
“really?” he asked her “right, yeah I know that. I forgot. and I didn’t realize you were from there,” he smiled a bit “I’m maxwell.”
She looked over at the unfamiliar boy and nodded. “The water here is so clear and pretty. It looks like its sparkling.”
“yeah it’s nice isn’t it, great for swimming too,” he said, being from the family he was from, he was a great swimmer.

Cleo was walking along the edge of the beach, the cool blue water occasionally hitting her feet as she stared out at the ocean. She was thinking about everything that had happened recently, like her fathers constant abuse and keeping her sexuality a secret from people. She took a deep breath, feeling the cool sea air blow over her, wishing it would blow away her problems. She was so lost in thought she didn’t even realize someone else was on the beach with her.
Maxwell noticed her walking along, clearly just having some alone time but he was curious and wanted to say hi. he walked over “it’s nice out here isn’t it?” he said softly.
“And I’m definitely trying, making new friends, doing new things,” she said, “It’s all about baby steps.” She shrugged her shoulders, “I like going home too, but I feel like I have more.. freedom here.”
he smiled “well, you just made one new friend so clearly it’s working,” he chuckled a bit. “babysteps for sure,’ he nodded. “yeah, i get that, definitely way more freedom here, and lots to do.”
“It’s nice, definitely more my sped of calming and relaxing, the scenery is just so beautiful,” she grinned softly, “It was just easier for me. Change wasn’t exactly easy for me, but once I got comfortable here, I didn’t see the point in leaving every so often.”
He smiled “I’ll have to check it out one time,” he said nodding. “yeah I can tell, change can be a good thing, everyone is changing all the time you have to try and embrace it,” he nodded. “Yeah makes sense, I just liked going home.”
“Well, my mother is Snow White, I was born and raised in Charmington,” she began to explain. “I started practically living in Auradon at a young age because of school. I lived at school a lot of the time so I was usually always away from home.”
“hey, that’s really cool, snow white,” he nodded. “I can see it now,” he chuckle a bit. what charmington like?” he asked curiously. “I get the school thing for sure, but I went home basically every weekend.’
“I second that,” she grinned, glad at how open he was. It was difficult to make new friends some times, but with kind, open minded people it’s a bit easier.
he smiled “exactly,” he said “so, I don’t mind going. tell me about where you’re from,” he asked her “parents and all.”
a happy sigh escaped uma’s lips when max kissed her. she wrapped her arms around his neck to get closer to him, pressing into the kiss. the sea witch would never understand how she had gotten so lucky to have someone like the prince in her life. she could of kept kissing him all day but the taxi driver clearing his throat made her pull away a look of embarrassment on her face. “how much longer till we get there?”
He held her tighter to his body, kissing her a few more times because he just wanted to keep her close. he breathed hard and licked his lips when they pulled back. he smirked a bit since the cab driver was being a bit nosy. “not too long,’ he said “and I’ll show you my room..” he told her with a slight chuckle. “and of course the rest of the place,’ he said.
“Great,” she grinned at him as they began to walk. It was quiet for a moment, as she turned to him slightly, “You know you don’t have to go with me, right?”
“I know,” he said “I don’t mind. I could use some more friends,” he chuckled a bit. “everyone could always use more friends.’
