Why I don’t buy brand jewelry.
A while ago, I wanna say about two or three years ago for my birthday, I got the Twinkle Ribbon necklace from Angelic Pretty.
This one:
I really loved this necklace so I was really excited when it got here in the mail. I wore it twice and the third time I went to wear it the whole thing exploded. I was really sad because it was my first piece of brand jewelry and in my eyes this meant only a couple of things.
1- Brand jewelry is all looks and no quality/too delicate:
I love brand jewelry and I think they complete a coord and add beautiful details...but what if its just too delicate and doesn’t really hold up to the price-to-quality expectation? I truly doubt this to be the case. while I think some pieces are more delicate than others in their construction, I think for the most part they hold up pretty well. Then again, I wouldn’t know for certain on that since I've only owned four pieces of brand jewelry my whole life.
2- I wasn’t delicate enough with the necklace:
I think this is the most likely answer to my necklace’s short life. I think that subconsciously I must have pulled too much or I just have axe-hands, or I was just too careless, who knows...
Regardless of the ultimate reason, I just came to the thought of “If brand jewelry is all looks and no quality, I don’t want to own it...and if I’m too clumsy to care for it, I shouldn’t own it”
I ended up selling my other pieces of jewelry but was later gifted a necklace that I still have. I still keep the broken necklace to remind myself to be careful with things. Maybe someday I’ll go and get another cute necklace or a bracelet, but for now, I’ll just go without.
