I think this is an awesome talk not only about how we are influencing our children with media, but I also think this ties in with Bronies. Not only is MLP:FIM about girls and leadership, but it gives out really good lessons about being strong as a person, too,
Happy Woman's Day, not Mother's Day
So as many people know, today is Mother's Day. (If you didn't, that's fine, if you forgot, CALL YOUR MOM OMG!) And I have a slight issue to address. It has a slight back story, so bear with me. One of my friends on facebook said she has been diagnosed with PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome) this is a medical condition in which a woman is either estrogen high, or progesterone high and this creates cysts all up in the girly bits, (as much as I know, it's actually quite a mystery) . I also have PCOS, progesterone high, which has effectively rendered me infertile. Even with invitro methods I may not be able to successfully have kids. I'm OK with this. I've wanted to adopt since I was like, 7. Anyway, this friend goes on to ask how other women with PCOS have gotten pregnant so that she can do all that she can to be a Mom.
This is my issue. I understand wanting to have your own babies, that's fine. However, am I less than "woman" or "motherly" because I can't have kids? I don't feel like I am. However, in the society I have grown up in, I have felt that if I don't have kids I should be a super successful career woman. It's like, "Oh you're not a breeder bee? Then you should be a worker bee!" Yes, I want to be successful in whatever area of interest I choose to pursue; but, it feels like people are assuming that if I don't have kids to occupy my time, then work should instead. I am not just a breeder or a worker; I'm an individual. I don't want to be crammed into your Victorian era view of women. I want to do whatever I want, when I want, and I don't want to justify it to anyone. If I want to take classes on ancient Greek philosophy, I'm going to do it. And I did. If I don't want to raise kids, I'm not going to do so. And I don't want to be viewed as "less than womanly" for choosing to forgo kids.
I'm not trying to say that raising kids is an easy or unworthy pursuit. Far from it. There is SO much involved in raising a child that it makes me have a panic attack thinking about it. It's not easy, it's really not for everyone. But people assume that just because I am a woman that I am predisposed to wanting to rear children. I'm not. I am more than the ability of my genitals. There are many women who have kids that aren't prepared to be mothers, (the same goes for men) and there are many women who can't have children who would be great mothers. We shouldn't look down on or pity those who don't/can't have kids. So today I say Happy Woman's day to all women who have opened their hearts to either human children, fur children, or anything else that makes them happy and feeling complete. You are all amazing.
Beginnings are always difficult
Music filled the room and the sound of many hooves trotting by on the street outside assailed Cosima's ears. She groaned and lifted her head to peer groggily outside. It seemed like a parade was going on, or something. Pinkie Pie and all her wonderful friends were at the front. The tune was upbeat and Cosima felt herself smile a little. The pain in her back snapped her out of the effects from the music. She fumbled around the small end table for the small box. A wild swipe at the table sent everything flying onto the living room floor. She could barely make out her prize under an issue of "Canterlot's Finest", and quickly she opened the box and took out one of the short brown sticks. After a small and shaky fire spell, the healing smoke from the cigarette wafted around her. After a few long drags she leaned back into the couch and blew smoke rings to the ceiling. She didn't have many cigarettes left; which meant a trip out to the Everfree forest to visit Zecora. Not that Cosima minded. Zecora was a beautiful zebra and a wonderful soul. It was going out of the house, into Ponyville, with everyone else there and especially those spa ponies that ran her out of business. But thankfully, there were a handful of ponies that still came to see her. Speaking of which, it was about time for one appointment to show and she did not appreciate the mess. Cosima took one last drag of her cigarette, blew out the tip, and ate it. The breakfast of champions.
So I've been thinking about starting to write out my story for this character here. I've never done fanfics before, and I unfortunately am not up to speed on all things MLP. So I'll do my best!

I'm listening to music and studying when I accidentally knocked over one of my blind bag ponies with the cord from my headphones. I start to look around my feet for the pony when I noticed that she was holding on to it. Literally. The cord somehow got caught just right. Banana Schnapps, you're awesome!
