3 Reasons Why Hewlett-Packard Co Entered The 3D Printing Market
Hewlett-Packard Co is one of the top players in the technological world. The company just regained the top position in the worldwide server market earning 28.1% factory revenue share in the third quarter of 2013. They are doing just fine in the print industry too but with that said, HP still dares to enter the unstable 3D printing market organically. It sure looks like they are up for some challenge why exactly did they take up such venture?
Hewlett-Packard Co has plenty of experience in printing technology.
3D printing market is very similar to that of digital printing when it came about. Although the industries aren't exactly adjacent, some of the printing technology is almost identical. It sounds rather complicated but they think that they can make it work. HP even made it seem like it was an easy transition. One day they were printed on paper and the next day they are printing lithium batteries. Well it wasn't really that easy to start in such scale but they were able to pull it off. Meg Whitman – CEO of HP is very confident of the success of this venture. "We feel very excited about 3D printing. We want to lead this business."
HP Co has the resources to gamble.
They have a big name in the printing industry but that's not all that they have. Hewlett-Packard Co is a huge company with plenty of resources to play with. The current players in the 3D printing industry should be threatened especially since HP is on quite a good stride this time of the year. “What we're doing is focusing on what's the value proposition by market segment, whether that be consumer or industrial" said Whitman. This clearly indicates that the company isn't just in for the show but is looking to gain ground, profit and sweep competition in both sectors.
The company wants to gain traction before the 3D Printing Market takes off.
Whitman thinks that the 3D printing market is going to bloom in three years time. Organically entering the industry right now does seem to be the right move if you want to get a firm stand before everything explodes. She even mentioned earlier last month that Hewlett-Packard Co will be implementing a “new technology” to address the current speed issues of 3D printers as well as reduce their printing costs. They are yet to unveil a 3D printing solution but Whitman confidently said with a smile“ We've got some very interesting things coming. So stay tuned in 2014.”
