The Justice League are losing their minds right now.

When JLD came up saying that a new Ghost King was crowned, they wanted to do a threat assessment despite Constantine's objections. So they did the usual summoning ... but what they were not prepared for, is how tedious it is to summon the Ghost King.

First they needed MONEY to get some kind of Ecto-Crystals which eerily look like Kryptonite - and then draw up ANOTHER Summoning Circle, because the first Circle is used to 'buy' Ecto-Crystals, and then use the Crystals to Summon the Ghost King.

Except that's not what happens.

The circle glows blue, and they are ready to do a threat assessment ... only for a bunch of junk to drop into the circle. And a single note to appear, as Batman picks it up and read - "You got junk. Roll again?"

The Young Justice instantly clock this as a GACHA GAME.

And now the Justice League have been trying to get the Ghost King for the past MONTH and they keep either getting junk, 4-Star Items and Ghosts - the most annoying one calling himself the Box Ghost - and by the time they get an actual 5-Star ...

It's not even the Ghost King.

It's one of the ANCIENTS and even they know about the Gacha Roll and are having fun with it, much to the Justice League's growing headache.

And now, it's been 3 months and even Superman can see Batman slowly losing his mind to the stupid Gacha Game.

There actually is a Pity System - I talked to this with a friend! Don't worry, the only Ancients that get summoned are the ones Danny is cool with. He wouldn't be so cruel as to send in Vortex or worse yet, Undergrowth.

So they keep getting Frostbite, Clockwork, Pandora, Fright Knight, etc.

There is a 100% guaranteed summon should there be an actual threat and Danny WILL show up. But he will NOT stick around for long, and just vanish before they could do thanks and stuff.

Even better? Ancients are not the only ones getting summoned.

That's right - Danny has even managed to get his NICKTOON FRIENDS to appear as 5-Star as well! They think they finally manage to get Danny, only to get what looks like a 13 year old!

He laughs in their faces and just says, "You guys wanted to summon the Ghost King?! HAHAHA, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!" Before they could ask for clarification, he just disappears.

Another factor is that these men avoid dating conservative women who already want the lives they want them to have because those women's standards are too high. Specifically, such women expect to be the obedient stay at home mum, but they also expect their men to be the masculine ideal from the other half of the equation -- they tend to look down on their men if they cry, they expect them to be able to financially provide for the household, they want them to uphold their end of the bargain. You see this again and again in groups of conservative men who go out of their way to date liberal women; there is a power play, to tame someone untamed and bring her into line with his expectations, but there's also her lack of expectations of him. They want a woman who will do all the household and keep the home but ALSO will not reject him for not being able to afford to finance the family alone. They want a woman who'll respect and obey him but ALSO be fun and relaxed and let him show whatever emotions he wants. They want the Perfect Trad Wife who won't expect him to be the Perfect Trad Husband.

You see the same thing in conservatives who complain that all their leftie friends are abandoning them, but who won't just hang out with right wing friends instead. They don't want to hang out with other righties because a group of righties quickly becomes judgy and hateful and socially competitive, and is only fun to hang out with when they want to vent, whereas their leftie friends were more relaxed and fun. They want license to be unpleasant and expect unreasonable things of others, but want the people around them to be pleasant and not expect unreasonable things of them.

Funny how that always seems to happen! But if we actually look at IPSOS's study, you'll see that a lot of the numbers have been gently massaged and their methodology is EXTREMELY opaque. After all, they're not a scientific institution. They're a MARKETING FIRM. The biggest conclusion if you read their own paper, is ACTUALLY, that MOST PEOPLE seem to hold progressive views on women's autonomy, but think that THEIR COUNTRY still majority holds draconian views on women's autonomy. Things their own study says:

A Majority of Gen Z has concerns that their society holds draconian beliefs about women.

What the results of the SPIN on this facts, as well as how many in the comments are reacting, is actually perpetuating the Traditional Right's views on Gender and Marriage. I need you to understand that it actively benefits the traditional right when you lean into gender essentialism and believe that Men Are Evil. That Men Are Monsters. It makes the default assumption of men be that they will always be predators, meaning that when they DO do something predator, nobody's surprised; well that's just how men are; when he finds the RIGHT woman who can Tame Him, then he'll behave; that's the duty of a woman after all; to put up with men abusing her until she finds one who is the Right One, who she can handle. What this article ALSO does, is scare progressive women, scares queerfolk, scares young folk, and makes conservatives feel emboldened and empowered. {Aka, Danny on vacation causes some (a lot of) panic.}

{Inspired by Leviathan Danny and Eldritch Danny fics, though it'll probably go off its own way in the future if I decide to keep posting my writing. But for right now, this is just build up. Maybe in the future I'll post more of my wips or oneshots. There wont be any beta reading for this so it might be all over the place.}

After the incident, the Fenton household became all too much sometimes. Having to constantly pretend that, no, he wasn't a dead preteen, and no, his parents' negligence didn't kill him. He needed a place to go to just escape from the stress. The fear. Even if he insisted that he wasn't scared of his parents, there was that fear in the back of his head of if he was caught or if his parents ended up not taking him being half dead well.

Danny didn't know where he'd go in the beginning, following wherever his core took him. He followed it as if he already knew where he was going cause his core was confident in its own instincts.

Plenty of times, this led him to leaving out his window in the middle of the night only to return at the break of dawn or not at all. But while neither of his parents seemed to notice his escapades, Jazz definitely did. She didn't push, not much, considering when he came back, he seemed lighter than when he left. Once she confirmed it wasn't anything too illegal or dangerous, she let him have this.

Despite staying up most nights, his core was kept fed and it was enough to keep him up. But even that could only get him so far.

Since they were kids, Jazz was always the one to take care of Danny. Their parents tended to get so caught up in their own obsessions that they forgot all of their other responsibilities. Sure, it was worrying that Danny barely slept outside of mid class naps. But he was still eating and looked pretty healthy if not more so than before. She could only hope that Danny wasn't getting into trouble. Jazz knew hovering over his shoulders wouldn't help him, but she would be there for when he needed her.

Between his school life and hero life, Danny found himself wandering more. Finding himself on roofs or in the park, just staring up at what stars he could see. For now, it was plenty enough for him to satisfy his obsession. He had his books and star maps, and a well loved telescope, but there was something missing. It wouldn't be till his first time in the Ghost Zone that he would find what it was.

That weightless feeling. Sure he felt weightless when flying or floating just above the ground, but in the zone, somewhere as infinite as space, the experience felt new all over again. He was pretty sure that all the emotions in the realms were affecting him more than he thought. But it wasn't like he was complaining. Not when it came to space.

It turns out, even outside of the Infinite Realms there were ways of recreating the feeling of being untethered to the world around him.

The first time after the portal incident that the Fentons went on a vacation to the beach, he felt that familiar pull of his core. It wasn't often Maddie and Jack put down their current project for family bonding, but at the request (guilt tripping) of Jazz they agreed it wouldn't hurt to take time off for the summer.

So the odd family found themselves on a long awkward road trip. Despite their promises, there were a few gadgets and gizmos in their luggage, but it could've been worse. Not everything went as planned- awful traffic, running out of gas, getting a flat tire- it ended up being a long two day drive.

In the end it was worth it.

The whole idea of a vacation started to look up when they found themselves in Maine looking over the horizon of the coastline. It had been a few months since Danny half died. By now he came to accept that fact. He had mourned his short life despite somewhat being alive still. He had better control over his ghost form and the powers that came with it.

He enjoyed the time off. Both during the day and night. But at night, there was much less light pollution here than in Amity Park. He could see more stars in the sky than he had ever in his life. The view was enough to reignite his obsession with space. And at night, when he went out back to the beach to stare into the abyss, Danny found himself floating once more. Drifting not too far from shore. Staring at the stars above for hours till it was like he too was floating aimlessly with the stars and planets themselves.

The following morning, Maddie woke up to find Danny already out on the beach. It wasn't horribly early when she got up, so she just assumed he hadn't been out for long. And that was good enough for her. Though, she did seem to be happy with how much Danny was enjoying himself.

Maddie swore she hadn't seen him this happy for what felt like forever. He was as happy as the night Danny got his telescope, stars in his eyes and all. Perhaps this was what the family needed. It brought back the look of child like wonder that she loved. One she wished she had been the cause of, though seeing it again all but made up for that. Maddie was just happy to have found something they could bond over.

Watching Jack pick Danny up over his head and toss him in the water only to be followed by the laughter of both her kids and her husband was enough to make this part of their norm. Yeah, she loved every bit of her work life, but she loved her family more. No matter how many things she forgot to do or how many responsibilities she neglected in the process. In the end, she loved her family more than anything.

The sentiment was shared with Jack, who beamed at getting to have this much fun with his family. He was a little disappointed that neither Jazz nor Danny was this happy when it came to ghosts, oh but look at them! Even if Jack wasn't the most (emotionally) intelligent person ever, he could tell Danny had been down in the dumps for a bit. But look at him now, he was so happy!

Both Jack and Maddie had the same thought, "maybe they should do this more often."

On the second night of the oddly relaxing get away, Danny ventured a bit father than the night prior. relaxing to the point he felt one with the waves. He found himself lucky he didn't exactly need to breath anymore.

After some time, he started to sink into the watery depth, feeling his core expand to match the vastness of the briny deep. He hadn't even realized he went ghost up until then. The other thing he failed to notice was just how far he had floated this time. At least being this far from shore he didn't have to worry about getting caught by ghost hunters, his parents or otherwise.

He was already out this far, he might as well explore while traveling back. So in all his new massive forms glory, he allowed himself to sink further down. To his surprise, while he was still close enough to see the the massive light house from the shore, he was also far enough to come across a small pod of whales, along with many other schools of fish.

For a brief moment it felt like he belonged there. Remoras deemed him good enough to try to stick to him while still tangible. Like he was just another whale or shark they were hitching a ride on. The smaller of the life around him startled at him movements and the push of the water around him.

After minutes? Hours? of swimming, his core tug once more. Deeming the spot he had come across the perfect spot. To take in the surrounding wild life, the small groups and schools that found their way to him once he rested. It was deep enough to where the moon illuminated the water above him, yet, where he sat remained quite dark. Though, maybe that was from his shadow. Casting over the sand and drop offs.

If he had to describe what he was feeling, it would be at peace. He may not be in space, but he felt just as weightless, save the pressure of the water. It was the closest thing he could find that felt like floating in the great beyond. Not like he actually knew what space was like, though if he had to say, it would be like this but better.

If he thought more on it, if he did get the chance to go to space, he was unsure if he'd ever come back down. Not only would he get this feeling and the view, both would be at the very least ten times better. He'd end up so entranced that he would never come back to earth or lose track of time. Knowing himself, he might forget that he's still half human and end up accidentally fully dying in space. Had to wonder how that development would turn for his ghost half, dying in the one place he dreamed of going to. The same place the became a part of him in the form of an obsession.

Case and point, time passing only registered to Danny as he watched the sun cast a brighter light over the water above. He hadn't even noticed the moon setting, let alone the sun beginning to rise. Once time made sense to him again, Danny was off back to the hotel. On the fly in the direction of the light house, he grew conscious of his new form and reverted back to his normal Phantom self. And what was left in his resting place were some few Atlanteans with bated breaths. Because What, the FUCK, was that?! A fucking Leviathan??? But it was small??? Only the size of a whale. Was it a baby. Oh gods it would get bigger! Was it dangerous? Did they have to fear the Leviathan, or would they be fine if it was left unbothered.

And it kept happening. After the first siting, the (probably baby) Leviathan came back. Always at night, the left in the morning. It barely even noticed them. It acknowledged the fish swimming around it and it was aware of how its movements sometimes made the fish shrink back and flee. To the few Atlanteans that decided it was better to understand the infant Levi than fear it right out the gates, it was almost endearing that the giant tried so hard to not disturb the ecosystem much. The thing was just so curious, even with its deep reflective eyes, they could see how taken it was with how the (in comparison) small fish reacted. And like the day before, it would "play" with the fish then grow still looking up to the surface, and at the break of dawn it would snap out of the trance and leave.

It would be twice more, making it a week, till the babe Levi didn't come back, leaving only the spot it laid. Nothing else was left behind but the imprint of it. But the few days it was watched, it painted Leviathans in a different light. It was young and curious, just as an Atlantean's young would be. Nothing from its actions painted it as a fearsome predator, nothing beside the sheer size of it. Not when it paid so much mind to the smaller life forms. It was as sentient as any other being of the sea was. Judging from its size, it was new to the world.

Danny didn't think anything of it. For the remainder of the Fenton's vacation, the family got on surprisingly well. No one was accused of being a ghost. Hell, Maddie and Jack both agreed to leave the gadgets and gear in the hotel room when they went into town for sight seeing and for meals.

The family ended up with tons of photos of their stay that Danny was sure to show off to Sam and Tucker when they went back. Speaking of which, the family were packing up preparing to go back home and back to their norms. It kinda bummed Danny out that they had to leave, but with Jazz's support of the idea, they asked if they could do this more to the delight of their parents.

This was a win for everyone. Jazz would get to enjoy more of her time as a kid, not worrying about her little brother. Danny was happier than ever, exploring during the day, spending time with his family with no mention of ghosts or getting torn apart molecule by molecule. Plus, Danny got pretty good at changing/controlling the change of his form. Jack got to have one on one time with both of his kids and his wife. And Maddie didn't drag Jack out of any trouble while also getting her baby boy back in the process. Even if it was brief due to this only being a week long trip. Point was, everyone had a blast. With the exception of the Atlanteans who had a heart attack or two when he first showed up. But he didn't even notice them.

That night, the same brave Atlanteans that observed the baby Levi waited for some time after nightfall for its arrival. Tonight would be the night they tried to get closer to nab a sample. One problem. The Levi never showed. Same with the next night and the one after that and the one after that. Soon the encounter was shrugged off as a one time thing. Was this just a thing that Leviathans did at a young age? Find a safe, secluded, place to rest then move to a new area? It was hard to tell for sure since this was the closest any of them had been to a Leviathan for an extended length of time without being in danger.

Yeah, it was disappointing that it left, but there wasn't much to be done about it. On the bright side, it was such a mellow subject. One could only wish that their young would be that calm. Pretty soon the Leviathan would once again be off the radar, the possibility of it returning was low in the opinion of the few that got near it. They had to assure that to plenty of people plenty of times. And plenty of times Aquaman had to assure the League that no harm was done.

After it's first appearance, Aquaman was understandably warry, giving a heads up to the League in case this took a turn for the worse. But worse for worse never came. From what was observed, it was an infant. Harmless to everything that came near it. He never tested whether or not that would be the same with him or his citizens since it payed no mind to any of them, choosing to not interact or it truly just didn't know they were there. Given how it was gentle to the fish-dozens of times smaller than it- he could only hope and assume it would act the same with them. Cause in the following days it was gone. Like it wasn't nesting outside of the kingdoms walls.

It remained gone for nearly a year before someone spotted it once more. Almost the same size as before, although worryingly small for it being a year older now, which raised both more questions and new found concerns. Was this poor Levi Calf not eating? Come to think of it, where had its mother been. A youngling that small should still be near its mother, but given it had barely grown since the last encounter, the possibility that it was abandoned or it's mother died was concerning. Not being taught to be a predator due to the death of its parent could explain its mellow actions and the lack of growth. But that also meant it wasn't taught to hunt nor defend itself. Poor thing.

Then that raised the concern of if there was something nearby that was big or strong enough to hunt and/or kill a full grown Leviathan. The thought was far more concerning than a harmless youngling that wandered a bit too close to the kingdom. As complicated as the subject was, for precaution sake, Aquaman had to inform the Trinity as a bare minimum. It was better for them to know to be ready to offer what help they could if needed and having their assistance might help with gaining a better understanding of the "small" Leviathan. Telling all of the JL immediately might cause a minor panic, but keeping it secret would likely be seen as withholding information.

Although he was still on the fence about spilling so soon, it was better to have the league on his side. That was the point of his appearance at the bi-weekly meeting. Arthur would have shown regardless of if he decided to tell or not. It was better to get it out of the way. Gods know how pissy Bruce would get if he wasn't aware of a giant ocean monster, more so if Bruce found out Arthur knew and didn't tell them. Man, B would tear him a new one.

Arthur, otherwise known as Aquaman, was sat around the table, mulling over how he was to tell the group. If he should run it by B first then tell the rest. Hell if he was supposed to know. Either way, his fellow heros would be made aware of the baby Levi's circumstances. He'd send his regards to that poor child who would soon be smothered with contingencies and monitoring until the heros were certain and satisfied. In the end this would prove to be the better choice. For everyone.

With the vaguest idea of a plan in mind he would inform the other members at the end of the standard meeting. If he wanted to tell Bruce first, he should have done so in advance. If he told him now, who knows, maybe Bruce would leave to do his own investigation and have Nightwing tag in for him. If not Nightwing, then one of the other members of his brood. That possibility couldn't be risked now.

All that was needed of him at the time being was to inform and assure that it would be handled accordingly. Not that he could stop Bruce's contingencies in the end. So long as the Levi remained calm and no blood was shed, he could consider it a win.

It wouldn't take much for any of the leaguers to act. Even the most sensible of them could be rash and impulsive, when it came to getting the job done and protecting their people.

Once the Zeta tube announced the last arrival, and the small talk and idle chatter was out of the way, the meeting would start. It was the basic stuff- tying off loose ends on incarcerated rogues, reports on the localized crime, how they could've done something better or worse- the usual. Only some minor setbacks in a bust, notes here and there for improvement. Then came Arthur's time to speak up, fill the rest of them in about the (potential) 'situation'. A low-stake, docile, seemingly parentless, infant Leviathan. He pulled from the reports of the last time it was spotted on the outskirts of Atlantis, time lapsed recordings of it doing nothing but resting and allowing the creatures around it to do as they pleased. On the occasion it would move, it did so slowly, seemingly conscious of its affect on the things around it. The youngling was considerate in that aspect. That was all it did, from night fall to sunrise, for a few days to a week at a time, then it left till the next summer came. What little was known about the Leviathan was that it deemed Atlantis safe enough to lower its guard to rest then migrated to a new place. The Ocean was a big place. Plenty of dark, secluded spots to hide and rest. Regardless of that, it returned for that week, then again a year later.

Finally was the consideration that no parent was spotted anywhere near the Calf at any point. When comparing the video from a year ago and the newer ones from the Levi resurfacing, it was painfully obvious it didn't grow much. If at all. They were sure it was the same one too. The chance that something killed its parent was at minimum concerning. Leviathans were always seen as aggressive predators, but this one seemed to be enough to disprove both parts of that sentiment. It wasn't aggressive and certainly no predator. If anything, at this state it was the prey to something else. Something bigger or simply more dangerous.

Nearing the end of the meeting, a live feed from where the baby Levi would sleep was playing, an Atlantean citizen was finishing putting the camera in place. It was coming up on the time it usually showed up. Once in place, the Atlantean swam off, and there was nothing for a few minutes. Then there was movement in the back. Far enough that it was just a blur. But sure enough it was the Leviathan, just something was off. It was acting sluggish, moving much slower than normal.

When it was within a few meters of it's resting place, it became clear that it was injured. Green liquid with splotches of red was pouring out of its side, mixing in with the water. The Leviathan's oddly humanoid hand was covering the injured side. Small chirp-like-gasps vibrated in the water, like it was crying out for it's mother.

Danny had come from a surprise encounter with Skulker, the latter getting the drop on him on his way out past the lighthouse. The rest of his family were already in bed when he was attacked, he was far enough that the attack wouldn't wake them either. But the league wouldn't know that. All they knew was the docile baby Leviathan was hurt bad, enough that it's blood was swirling idly in the surrounding waters. Bad enough that the baby was calling out for a parent that wouldn't show. For now though, they were operating on animal planet rules. Observe, don't interfere. But watching as something suffered was fundamentally against everything they, as heros and as protectors, stood for. They could do something, they could offer help, they could find what attacked it. But then what? Have what ever it's predator was go after them? How could they even help it when they didn't even know anything about it.

Were they really just going to let nature take it's course, yeah, Leviathans were dangerous, but everything that's dangerous doesn't deserve death. Causing danger and being dangerous weren't the same thing. It was only a baby that had done no harm.

Leaving the Levi to suffer would be no better than killing it themselves, it would sit just as heavy on their conscious if it were them killing it. Even with nothing said aloud, the decision was made. Making contact would be easy in theory, if Aquaman couldn't communicate with it with his marine telepathy then maybe Martian Manhunter could communicate telepathically or read its mind. In theory. But that only worked if it stayed calm while being approached and if their assumptions about it retaining a conscious mind was correct.

Those that could spare the time and resources returned to Atlantis with Arthur. They only had a few hours before the Leviathan, if it followed it's pattern, would leave. If it decided to do so, they had no way of stopping it. As planned, J'onn accompanied him, along with Barry and Bruce.

Equipped with flippers and oxygen masks, the three joined the Atlantean king to the Levi's resting place. It was in the same position as it had been last seen on the live feed. Curled into itself, making the same pained chirping sound. The liquid assumed to be it's blood started to settle around it's body, drifting with the movements of the group swimming closer.

Being this close, Arthur could see the Leviathan closed its eyes, lowering its guard even as it bled. In all it's time resting near Atlantis, it remained alert enough to watch the animals around it or gaze up to the surface. But it was too caught up in its own pain to keep its eyes open.

Arthur spoke to it first, alerting it of their presence. His voice reached the young spooking it at the suddenness of it. It became further startled seeing who was speaking to it. Regardless of its own agony, it jostled back away from the intimidating form.

How odd it was that something dozens of times bigger than them found the Leaguers to be intimidating. It was clear, in the reflective eyes of the Leviathan that it was scared. Perhaps that wasn't the right word. It felt unease at their presence. Something completely natural from a being that had been injured and didn't know who or what to trust. Given the sluggish movement observed earlier, it could probably barely stay conscious. But it didn't trust them. And that they couldn't blame it.

With the suggestion for Barry and Bruce to stay back for a moment while J'onn and Arthur tried to calm it, there were a few minutes of silence between the group as the latter two eased forward, lifting their hands in a surrendered motion. The moment of reasoning began with Arthur explaining that he was the king of the kingdom the infant rested by on the occasion. Then J'onn offered the explanation for them approaching making sure to specify to the baby Levi that they didn't intend to hurt or scare it.

Danny thought that being far enough away from Amity Park meant the ghost attacks wouldn't be as bad. Actually, he thought he could get a few days with no ghost business at all. Of course he had to jinx it. On the third night of their second family vacation, a year and a half after he died, Skulker had tracked him down. Still clearly dead set on completing his hunt, the fight would have been like any other if not for the new surroundings. With the stars above on full display and Danny being on the move to his new normal resting place, Danny wasn't as aware of his surroundings as he should have been.

He'd done this plenty of times. Going to the depths to float while getting lost in his obsession. Driven by the vary same obsession, he was distracted and Skulker used that to his advantage.

Skulker's attack landed, however, he didn't expect the halfa to grow in size seconds after hitting the water. This unexpected discovery would only act as fuel to the flame with Skulker's hunt. On top of being a prey that gave him meaningful fights and being half ghost-half living boy, he also held enough power to alter his physical form. Now that was a prey worth hunting.

Skulker followed Danny's trail for a few miles out till he lost him. Seemed like the Halfa could cover much more ground (or in this case sea) in a much shorter amount of time at this size. Too bad.

It took longer for Danny to reach his safe place, his adrenaline wearing out a block out from safety. Gradually his movements became sluggish like he could collapse at any moment. And he almost did once he was finally safe.

Danny found himself curling into a ball, pressing his enlarged hand against his side. This had been a closer call than any other attack made by Skulker. Way closer to a second death than he ever wanted to get.

There was movement near him, he assumed those blobs in his blurry vision were the usual life that found their way to him. Although, this time around they looked off. Bigger maybe. Moved more like people swimming. For all Danny knew, his head could have been hit during the altercation and he was seeing things as a result. Those human looking blobs were in the distance, by the top of a drop off behind some rocks and hadn't moved any farther or closer for the next fifteen minutes.

Danny wasn't actually sure how much time had passed. He was just taking a wild guess.

Those long fifteen minutes passed and in that time his eyes finally closed. He needed to heal. To focus. There wasn't any ecto near to use to heal. All he had to heal off of were his emotions: pain, panic, relief at getting away; The creatures-around-him's emotions: curiosity, hunger, but also worry and panic, which was odd, though possibly cause by him moving too fast and freaking them out; And his own obsession.

It wouldn't take long for Danny to figure out why he was feeling odd emotions from the surrounding creatures when one spoke to him. He didn't have that ability? He couldn't speak to animals, so why was one talking to him?

As his glossed over eyes opened, he was face to face with a human! No. That's not right. He was breathing under the water. He could hear it. That couldn't be a human.

Danny's eye began to focus as he saw long blonde hair flowing in the current and a yellow/green suit. He blinked once. Then twice.

Holy shit- Is that Aquaman?! This could not be happening. Oh Ancients- Did he do something? He could hear Aqua man speaking to him in a gentle tone. Okay, so he wasn't mad. Not out right. That's good.

Aquaman was introducing himself, saying he had been resting near his kingdom. That was an enough for a existential crisis by itself. Then there was a second voice and Danny's eyes couldn't widen any more, it was the Martian Manhunter. THE Martian Manhunter. Danny's all-time favorite Super Hero. Oh Ancients, he was using his telepathy on him! He could die for a second time happy now. Wait. Not the time. Did Martian Manhunter just say the Atlantean's had been keeping an eye on him since last summer?! At least the hero confirmed he wasn't in any trouble and they weren't going to hurt him. Nice to have that cleared up. Wait, if Danny was thinking this, could MM hear it?

J'onn could, in fact, hear his thoughts. And to his shock, the baby Leviathan knew what the Justice League was. Not just that, the Levi had favorites. J'onn felt slightly flattered.

The Leviathan being aware of them, enough so to have a favorite, meant it was much more sentient than initially thought. It was confusing. How could a young ocean predator know about the Justice League. Knowing about Aquaman and Atlantis would be one thing, but as it's eyes focused, it recognized each of them. It's thoughts were all over the place, it's emotions switching from excited at meeting them, concerned about having met them, and over all confusion.

It was almost worrying that the Leviathan knew about his powers. Knowing enough to worry if they were effected by it too. That displayed some intelligence. If this was just a baby, that could suggest that Leviathan as a whole weren't given enough credit. This young calf alone displayed actions similar to elephants returning to sources of food and water and taking migration routes. It being able to show favoritism was just even more fascinating, showing to be more human in the sense than that of Avian, Mammals, or any other Primates.

J'onn was getting distracted. He had to remember they were there for a reason. This first contact was important. J'onn introduced himself to the Leviathan, giving his proper name in place of his hero one seeing the calf already knew that one. He also happened to mention the uniqueness of the situation at hand, showing remorse to the calf for not having a parent. Now knowing that the calf was sentient, MM was more hesitant to go further than needed into it's mind. Therefore, until it was necessary, he would stick to using his telepathy as a means of communication.

Even in the mind, there could be mistranslations if a language didn't have a word for something in another language. The dialect of a Leviathan, however it was, was unknown to anything but a Leviathan. Contact with one was rare in and of itself, but communication was even more so. Encounters in the past had never been so bloodless. Well, this one wasn't exactly without blood either, but it wasn't from combat with the Leviathan and them.

From the quick dip in the Leviathan's mind, it was indeed young, only reaching sixteen in age. For a human, that was young, but a Leviathan, a creature that could live hundreds, if not thousands of years. This Leviathan shouldn't've been without a parent for another decade. When he took that quick look, he could hear the Leviathan telling him to stop. To get out.

The baby could feel him inside of his head. It's awareness was impressive. Yet worrying. J'onn apologized for the invasion, and with the help of the Levi's seeming favoritism, the apology was accepted.

DC x DP Prompt — A Pirate's (Half) Life for Me

Danny's used to the ocean. It's in his blood.

Quite literally, now.

He and his sister grew up with stories of their parent's fanatical tales of rotted, ghastly vessels being raised from the ocean with riches inside, and only the skeletons of the old, drowned crew manning it.

(Jazzi, during the long days left at their tiny harbor house while their parents sailed to Neptune knows where, told different myths. Ones of heroes and cleverness and the tales of sorcerer sailors called the Justice Legion.)

It got a bit out of hand once he'd passed his thirteenth winter. Danny was tired of either being left alone at the port, doing odd jobs to keep himself busy and humid days in a school building. The times his parents did drag them onto their boat, they were either going on wild seagull chases or getting caught in violent storms.

When the Fenton seniors finally found what they called 'Davy Jone's Locker', he was hesitant. With a dare from his friends and a concerned chaperone of his sister, he used an air bubble spell bracelet to venture down to the shallow depths of the ocean floor.

The decrepit doorway wasn't as harmless as his parents boasted, he quickly learned. They'd been trying to push the door open when all they had to do was pull lightly on a rusted handle.

His magicked bubble popped.

His sister and friends cried out in horror while breathing with their own talismans. (As if someone could hear their screams in the sea.)

And Danny? Danny was sucked into a glowing green entrance before he could even gurgle out for help. He was spat out only a half-minute later like Poseidon's chewing gum, but he was not just the short wharf boy anymore.

Even once on land, his white hair floated as if it was still underwater, protective clothing having its colors inverted onto themselves. His eyes shone an unnatural, haunting green. Imprints like barnacles had been pried off his skin glowed the same hue, trailing up the arm that had touched the handle to the doorway.

(Such markings did not disappear completely, even when he returned to looking human. He simply covered it up with an eyepatch and extra layers. His parent's didn't notice.)

Danny sought answers. He went to the oldest, alchemist crone in their small islands. The hobbled woman only peered at him and declared, "You have the dead for bones and salt water for blood, boy," and nothing more.

Danny and his friends quickly found out that the doorway swirled periodically like an underwater, gleaming vortex and grew in size.

It spat out a ghostly ship, the cracked hull shooting out of the waves and destroyed sails waving in the wind. It seemed to be held together as the same toxic substance that Danny lived from, somehow moving like any other vessel would on the sea.

His parents learned of this quickly as well, as the undead crews were not so much sailors as they were zombie-looking pirates.

All of Amity Islands became aware quite fast. The sea thieve's mischief and attempts at pillaging ranged from terrifyingly successful to downright embarrassing.

And so the lone barge, known only as The Phantom came into existence.

It seemed to be controlled by a singular dead child at first. The Captains Jack and Maddie Fenton, now the other protectors of Amity Islands, seemed to have a hatred for that spirit ship as much as they tried to murder the other wraith-led ones.

But even the spooky Phantom gained a band of mismatched crew after many weeks of skirmishes with ghouls.

It's not confirmed, not really, but a few of the more observant Amity community members notice there's always a few helpers nearby.

The actual 'crew' was Danny, Sam, Jazzi and Tucker. Sam was an elementalist mage, although she always had the flair for plants rather than water. Waves lifted to daunting heights, winds pressed the sails faster than anything natural, lamps lit with a breath. She kept the canteens and the crackers for long nights or missions and harped on them for their vitamins and vegetables.

Tucker can fix about anything. He has to be some strain of genius, or at least able to manipulate metal or internal mechanisms. Compass not working? A few taps or a minute under his deft fingers and it's working. Can't see through the constant, ominous fog? Tucker had the tool for it.

Jazzi had to be the brains of the operation, though. When she wasn't buried in a scroll or casting an obscure enchantment, she was creating maps and diaries and journal of pirates and their weaknesses. She knew the healing salves and the skin regeneration spells.

But Danny? He was... different. The Phantom responded to him, at least much easier than the rest of them. He could summon the ship and have it sink back into the sea as if it never existed. The cannons— with their ghostly green, destructive metal balls— fired when he screamed. His punches were concussive; a boom and a spray of salt water like someone had dropped something heavy into the ocean when his knuckles met the ghostly pirates. He was terrifying.

But not to his crew, his friends. Because Sam and Tucker joined him in the crows nest at nights, when he'd float in the air right next to the main mast, astrolabe in hand and eyes towards the sky. Because Jazzi made the perfect excuses for their parents and held him the nights that he woke up, still drowning or twisted in kelp or clawing his way from the deep, deadly Locker.

It's a foggy day out in the Amity Islands.

Danny is leaning against the railings of the helms, watching the weirdly calm water. Either there was a storm coming or it was their lucky day.

Sam was lower down on the deck, looking faintly ill like she always did. For an elementalist, she was notoriously sea sick when they weren't trying to blow a hole in an evil spirit ship.

Tucker hung from the ratlines, testing out a spyglass that Jazzi had magicked earlier that week. Danny had given up on trying to tell his friend that it was dangerous to do it at that height. Aforementioned sister was napping somewhere deeper in the ship, due to a long night of studying for her exams.

He was about to comment on going back to shore to his friends when blue smoke curled up from his lips and the taste of saltwater filled his mouth.

"Ghost!" He called, starling Tucker and causing the boy to immediately shimmy and climb down the netting to the sails. Sam seemed to shake off her nausea enough to get a stumbling start towards where they kept the ghost compass.

Danny did a diagnostic check mentally, and he knew all of their artillery was in good shape enough to win against most of the pirates. Unless they were shooting fire out of Ancient's knows where, like Ember's.

Sam returned, Jazzi not too far in tow, and tossed the little oval tool. He caught it automatically, and begin to shift the wheel in the direction.

Unsurprisingly, it was Box Ghost and his crew harassing some poor tea and provision merchant. They weren't even close to Boston, and no one in the little slice of sea was particularly patriotic, so he thinks they just did it to be a nuisance.

The moment Boxy's attention shifted away from the sellers barge to his, cannon fire erupted with resounding booms. Danny returned it quickly, feeling the quake of the floorboards and smell of gunpowder.

He really hoped this pest of a pirate wouldn't force him to go fly and sword fight them. He dealt with enough of that dramatic stuff when battling Plasmius, enough that he kept a faintly glowing cutlass at his side now.

Thankfully, it was only a battle of loud, deafening explosiions and flashes of searing green. Tucker throws a few long-ranged weapons, and Box Ghost gave up after a while and accepted defeat.

Danny only sighed once the pillaging spirits cascaded back underneath the waves and into the churning Locker. The damages weren't severe, and it only took a bit of his internal energy to patch up whatever holes were blown into the wood.

"Only a perfectly nice Friday afternoon..." He trailed off with an irritated sigh, finally sliding down the railing next to where Tucker stood.

"Arrg, ye cap'n'!" His friend saluted teasingly. He palmed Tucker in the face in retaliation, watching as Sam seemed to return back to looking sick and Jazzi yawned.

He almost turned his back to go grab a snack from their storage area when the back of his neck prickled. He shifted, instinctually jogging up to the bow to peer out across the horizon and the thinning, misty cover.

There were a lot of ships approaching. Fast. In the front, he could could around a couple small ones and another three large, black boats in the distance with many behind it.

"Ships approaching! Tucker!"

There had to be some or multiple elementalists or sorceresses on those boats for them to be cutting through the waves as quickly and smoothly as they did.

Amity Island didn't get a lot of visitors. Sure, they sent out messages and familiars to try to beg for help against the constant barrage of thievery and violence from the spooks, but... Nothing had ever really returned of value for their pleas.

Tucker rushed up beside him, extending the spyglass and concentrating on it before the boy lowered it and his eyes widened almost comically.

Sam and Jazz came to his side as well, skidding up and cupping their hands around their eyes to try to see.

"Tucker." Danny repeated, trying not to freak out. They were too far from shore to get their safely; its not like he could destransform and let them what, drop into the ocean?

"It's the Dark Knight's Battalion with— holy Fiddler's Green— a lot more."

Danny swallowed and gripped the hilt of his sword, lifted his eyepatch, and stared straight ahead towards the veritable fleet of ships coming straight their way.

They're so screwed.

DP x DC prompt - Mr. Fenton and His Magic School Bus

I’ve seen a lot of posts where there is unhinged science teacher Danny and people compare him to Ms. Frizzle.

But what if it can actually happen?

Like Fenton-Tech is weird enough and Danny (as Ghost King) would have access to all the tech and magic across all dimensions. Not to mention he has a good relationship with someone who is essentially the Lord of Time.

So imagine Gotham Academy Teacher Danny who believes in practical experience and/or first-hand experience.

Mix in a bit of Fenton-tech here, a bit of time magic there and you have a class full of high schoolers who have witnessed things.

If we’re going high schoolers, I propose Tim Drake is in Danny’s class. The thing is, despite everything, his family somehow doesn’t believe him(Jason might just be fucking with him) leading to an increasingly unhinged and feral Tim trying to prove his Magic School Buss adventures are real

If we’re willing to go a bit younger, I propose the Super Sons: Damien and Jon. The CHAOS of Danny trying to wrangle them as they get into trouble unrelated to the rest of the class. They’ve also ended up fighting Vandal Savage at three different points in history because ✨immortal villain✨. Both neglect to mention their adventures. Jon because he doesn’t think to mention it, Damien because he 100% let Jon egg him into doing something Bruce would disapprove of

“Class Dismissed. Tim would you stay behind a moment. I’ll write you a note.” The rest of the class filtered out and Tim stood in front of Mr. Fenton’s desk. Mr. Fenton sighed. “Would you like me to transfer you to a different class?” “Has my work not been done adequately?” Tim asked stiffly. Mr. Fenton sighed. “Your work is good and you know it. In fact my class seems to be one of your best.” He leaned back. “Most of the students have mixed feelings about our little ‘field trips’. I don’t mind disturbing them. Life is disturbing and to be completely frank the higher up on the economic totem pole you are, the more insulated you tend to be. It’s not a universal truth, but history needs to be known in order for it not to be repeated. And let’s be honest, most of your class would have never known about the radium girls otherwise.” Tim couldn’t help but shudder at the memory of those poor women. Jawless ghosts wrapped in flesh all so people could sell wristwatches.

“But you’re not disturbed. You’re angry, and if you’re focused on being mad at me, you’re not learning to the best of your ability. My job is to make sure you learn as best you can, and if it’s with someone else, then that’s what I have to do.” “It’s not. I can’t…I can’t prove it if-” Tim clenched his fists.

Danny processed what he said, then sighed. “You can’t prove I’m doing this if you’re not here to gather evidence. Why do you need to prove it?”

“Because they don’t believe me! I don’t lie for attention. I don’t just make things up for no reason. But none of them believe me! And this is Gotham! We have plant people and mind control and a cannabilistic crocodile man who lives in the sewers. And Bruce didn’t even check.” “

And why is that important?” Tim shot him a glare and Mr. Fenton put his hands up in surrender. “I’m not saying it’s not important. I can think of, like, five different reasons it would be and I need to know which of them it is to know how to go forward.”

Tim was never on great terms with the truth. As he said, he didn’t lie for no reason. He always had very good reasons. But he was never completely honest for no good reason either. But Mr. Fenton was at least trying. He was listening and taking what Tim was saying into account and that was more than he could say about his so-called family right now. “If none of the Waynes trust me enough to even check, I don’t know if they ever trusted me at all.” Tim admitted.

“Fucking rich people with their heads so far up their-” Oh Tim was definitely not supposed to hear that and doubted Mr. Fenton knew he’d muttered that aloud. “Okay, I can think of two ways we can handle this. The first is we put a scare into Mr. Wayne. Okay, both ways involve putting a scare into Mr. Wayne, but different types of scares.”

Tim somehow doubted Mr. Wayne would be as easy to scare as Mr. Fenton was anticipating.

“In scenario A we’d do a call to child services. You saw me using enough Meta Tech that you thought I could be a rogue and were promptly ignored. If Mr. Wayne couldn’t even call the school to confirm, how can we guarantee he’d take your safety seriously in the case of an actual rogue? Get social media involved too. if you want. Poor little orphan kid being ignored by billionaire adopter would do numbers.”

Okay never mind, Mr. Fenton apparently knew the one place hitting Bruce would hurt, having his capacity to care for his children called into question. “Won’t that get you in trouble.

“Maybe” Mr. Fenton shrugged, uncaring. “Tim, I manage to take us on field trips through time, space, and reality on the daily. Do you really think I’m dependent on this job?”

“Then why take it?”

“My high school life was shit, so I figured I’d try to give others a better one.” Mr. Fenton shrugged. “The second option, well, it’s not uncommon for field trips to have chaperones, right?”

Wait. “Are you saying?”

“Bring Mr. Wayne. Heck, bring your brothers too. You know what, I’ll actually make permission slips for this one. Label it an in-school field trip so the school doesn’t notice the lack of busses.” Mr. Fenton flat out cackled.

“You don’t like rich people, do you?” Tim observed.

Mr. Fenton waved him off. “Less rich people in general, more I’ve got personal beef with at least one CEO of a multibillion dollar international mega corp, so getting one over on someone like him is cathartic.”

Tim desperately wanted to know more, but sadly whatever gave him his ability to travel through space, time, and dimensions also let him have an incredible boring personal record. He’d checked.

“I’ll have the forms available next week,” Danny cackled again. “Oh this is going to be a field trip to remember.”

Tim didn’t doubt it.

Danny walked up to the front of the classroom. Both Mr. Wayne and his eldest were in attendance. (He’d tried to find the second eldest in the Zone. Apparently he’d been there for a while, then vanished. Probably passed on.) “Okay class. Let’s welcome our chaperones, Mr. Wayne and Mr. Grayson. I know we don’t usually have chaperones, but this one is going to be a doozy.” Mr. Fenton smiled brightly.

“Seatbelts everyone!”

He took a moment to enjoy the confusion on their chaperones faces while the students clutched their desks and even more so the feral grin on Tim’s replacing his old anger before the classroom dissolved into green.

Bruce: Hmm.

Dick: What the fuck! No really, what the FUCK! And he just, does that?

Tim: Yes. Also, be glad he chose to invite you on a trip. His other option for helping me was to call CPS.

Dick: What? Why?

Tim: I would appreciate it if you stop dismissing me in future. Also, Dr Fenton is my favourite teacher. He is the correct amount of petty and Vindictive. I have learned a lot from him.

Tim: I would leave off the bugs. He will find them and I know what he is like. He will do something to make them.. Uncomfortable to listen to.

If You Give a Ghost a Cookie

Danny was so, so tired. And hungry. When was the last time he had a decent meal, he wondered? A week ago? Two weeks? Longer…? The days just seemed to blend together more and more since Jazz left for college.

Danny flew mindlessly over Amity Park, not really looking for anything, just…not wanting to go home. Not that there was really a reason to go home anymore, he thought. Not like his parents will notice he’s not there. With Jazz gone, there was no one there to rein his parents in. No voice of reason to point out they should be eating dinner instead of disassembling weapons on the table. No logical big sister to cite statistics on how poor sleep affects school performance in teenagers when their experiments were shaking the building at 1 o’clock in the morning.

With Jazz gone, his parent’s ghost obsession had reached new heights. Their weapons and experiments grew more deadly by the day and Danny…he was an afterthought…one they barely managed to think of at all most days…Danny was the underachieving youngest child. He was the screw up. The one who fell asleep in class. The one who got detention. At 17 years old and a senior in high school he was leaving the house soon anyway.

Danny’s mind unwillingly thought back to that day, like watching a train wreck he just couldn’t look away. He had been floating around after patrol a bit. Not long, he’d just wanted to stargaze for a while. The sky had been so clear that night. He hadn’t even noticed the sound of the GAV or the whine of the weapons charging until he felt the burning in his thigh from being shot. It was just a graze (a bad graze…but it’s not like his parent’s knew they were shooting at their own son! Plus,he got away quickly like he always did, so it was fine!) He had patched himself up as best he could and gone home.

Walking through the door, he had gone towards the kitchen to get some dinner, maybe even some fudge if his dad hadn’t eaten all of it. His parents had been sitting at the kitchen table, talking about him…not him him. Other him. Ghost him. Phantom. Talking about how close they were to getting him this time. The experiments they could run. What weapons might work better next time. Danny remembered standing there. Only a few feet away, in plain view of his Mom and Dad, while they talked about hurting him. Again. He remembered the blood trickling down his leg having leaked through the hastily applied bandages. Standing silently in the doorway waiting… and…nothing…his parents never spoke to him. They’d never asked if he was hungry. Never asked how his day had gone. Dad didn’t offer fudge. Mom didn’t give him a hug. They were too busy plotting to capture him…to hurt him…

That…that was the tipping point. The last straw. The moment Danny had known he could never trust his parents with his secret. That..they weren’t really his parents anymore. Not the way parents should be.

These days, Jack and Maddie (not Mom and dad, not anymore) really only ever spoke to him to ask why he hadn’t cleaned the lab. Occasionally they would mention him going to college next year. They didn’t ask or notice that Danny hadn’t mentioned any colleges.

Jazz had excelled in school. She had the grades and the SAT scores to apply anywhere and she had done the research on her own. She had applied, she had arranged to tour campuses. She had collected pamphlets and made charts and written pro/con lists. She had done it all without their help.

Danny didn’t have the grades. He didn’t have the SAT scores. He had done a bit better, later on. After that first year, it was easier to handle the ghosts. Technically, as the ghost king, he could just order them not to attack (he never did, he needed to fulfill his Obsessions and so did they). Still, the improvement wasn’t enough. He was only just skating by with passing grades. No college would look at his application and think anything other than “automatic rejection”.

I can’t tell her, he thought to himself for the hundredth time. Jazz deserves to be happy, to become a psychologist and have a normal life. Danny won’t…he can’t take away her dream.

Besides, she can’t help anyway. Not really. Danny’s old dream of becoming an astronaut was laughably impossible now. He had no hope of getting into college much less the kind of college NASA would look for in an applicant and even if he did, he’d definitely fail the physical on account of being, well..dead.

Tucker and Sam would be leaving soon too, then I’ll be completely alone, he thought despondently. That’s where they were this weekend. Sam was touring the University of California, Berkeley and Tucker was looking at MIT. Despite their differing interests and planned majors, they’d even discussed going to the same college together. He hadn’t talked to them about his parents. He tried to keep up a cheerful front for them. He didn’t want to hold his friends back from their dreams anymore than he wanted to drag his sister away from hers.

Danny had halfhearted plans to try and find an apartment and maybe give community college a try. Probably get a job of some kind. Nasty Burger is hiring his brain supplied, Danny winced at the thought. More than one person had told him he’d wind up flipping burgers if he didn’t apply himself more.

He’d also thought about just…leaving. Maybe to the ghost zone? Maybe somewhere else entirely. What future did he have here?

Danny was just so done with everything. And on top of everything else, he thought, word has gotten out the ghost king is back and I get to be summoned by every Tom, Dick and Harry who can get their hands on the spell.

Granted, Danny hasn’t actually accepted a single summons yet. Part of the spell is the offering and he can reject it. He has rejected all of them. That part, the rejecting part, isn’t hard. The first time he did it by accident. It was automatic, instinctual. It’s the entire rest of the process that’s disgusting, he thought with revulsion. When he is summoned, it starts with a vaguely unpleasant pull in his core, tugging at him. It’s annoying but fairly easy to ignore at first. Then, the tugging gets harder, then it starts to take over his senses. Specifically, taste and touch. Sometimes he can hear a bit (Danny has had enough of poorly enunciated Latin to last the rest of his afterlife thank you very much). That first summons (and in way too many since), Danny had tasted blood, overwhelmingly, suddenly, blood. He’d been in English class at the time and had bolted from the room without asking (detention, again) and straight to the boy’s bathroom. He’d barely made it in time to vomit everything he’d eaten that day straight into the toilet.

Apparently, vomiting counts as rejecting the offering. Who knew? Danny has since learned to reject the offerings faster (he hardly vomits at all anymore). Some of the people trying to summon him have mixed it up a bit, gold is a pretty frequent offering. Jewels, of course. Blood though, blood continues to be the most popular choice.

Between the frequent and unwelcome taste tests from hell with the summonings and the lack of edible food at home, Danny would do just about anything for a Klondike bar at this point.

The last few days have been particularly bad. Some asshat (or asshats? Danny’s heard more than one voice) just won’t take the hint and have been summoning him nonstop the last few days. This one felt…further away…that some of the others had. Clockwork had told him the infinite realms was, well, infinite. That it connected to other worlds and realities and dimensions away from his own. That feeling of distance is what made him think this was the same group that had been trying to summon him so insistently.

He just…desperately wanted some warmth. A meal made with love. Even a snack. Someone who cared enough to make something just for him.

The thought passed through Danny’s head, if one of those idiots who keeps summoning me put a decent meal as the offering I might just go…

Tim was so, so tired. And hungry. God, did he need a cup of coffee. When was the last time he slept? Two days ago maybe? Longer? The long hours and days just seemed to blend together since that initial attack.

An unknown and powerful being had attacked Metropolis 9 days ago. They had wreaked utter havoc and Superman hadn’t been able to even delay them, much less stop them. Nothing Superman could do had even touched the hellish green glowing creature. The entity phased through solid matter like it wasn’t there. It could turn invisible. It could send energy blasts that caused massive amounts of property damage. It could possess people….control them completely. That was the worst one. When Superman tried to stop it. It had fought at first. Then it simply took over.

Controlling Superman, the entity had leveled 3 city blocks before it and grown bored with it’s temporary plaything and left him in the middle of the wreckage. Clark didn’t dare go after him for fear of being controlled again.

The rest of the Justice League had been called in. Others went after the entity. Green Lantern. Flash. Wonder Woman. They all failed. Superman was far from the last to be taken over by the being. The destruction caused was catastrophic. It had moved from Metropolis to other cities, then to other countries with seemingly no pattern or reasoning, carving a path of devastation as it went.

The Justice League Dark was consulted. They didn’t know how it came to be here but they at least knew something of what it was. A being of the infinite realms. A ghost. “Not like you’re thinking,” Constantine had said. “They’re called ghosts, or they call themselves ghosts, at least some of the time, but not all of them used to be people. Beings of the infinite realms are ghosts of a different sort. Not something you want to get mixed up in.”

Next they had tried spells. Artifacts. Rituals. Still, nothing could stop the ghost.

Now, they were down to their last chance. Every other option had been exhausted. This was a the last ditch effort, the hail mary pass, the I hope it works because we have nothing else option. They were trying to summon another ghost to stop the first one. They were trying to summon the ghost king…and it wasn’t working.

The problem was the offering. Constantine had explained the summoning ritual calls for one and the ghost king can reject it so they need to make it good.

They had tried blood first. “It’s traditional”, Constantine had said with a slight grimace. The major league members attending the ritual had all donated (a pint each) for the offering. The blood of the most powerful beings on earth would surely make a good offering and they were out of time. It didn’t work. The ritual had barely begun before it was over, the offering rejected.

Next, the blood of virgins was considered because apparently ancient, eldritch beings can be picky sometimes. After several extremely awkward conversations with various younger superheroes (Tim was thankfully excluded, he’s never been so thankful to live in a family of detectives that know almost everything about each other), the second offering was made and also summarily rejected.

They tried gold, silver, copper. Various precious jewels. They tried magical artifacts (Constantine was not happy at all). One of the league members who had no children and had no intention of ever having children had the clever idea of offering their first born.

Nothing. Nothing was working. Every single offering was rejected. All members of the league not directly involved with the current ritual attempt or benched were out working damage control. They had stopped even trying to defeat the ghost and were concentrating on evacuation. Desperately trying to prevent further lives lost.

Tim was just so done with everything. He had been researching endlessly trying to find something, anything that might work for the offering with no luck. Most of the bat family members had been working damage control and occasionally rotating up to the Watchtower to try and help with the summoning. Tim and Oracle had been put primarily on research. Tim had wanted to help with the situation on the ground. He saw the destruction on his screens. He saw his family coming back lifeless and exhausted. “You and Oracle are the best at finding information,” Batman had said, “we need you here.” So he looked. He sifted through endless archeological reports, arcane texts, ancient poems and ballads and folklore. Trying to find something, anything at all the Ghost King might accept and still nothing.

“Hey baby bird,” Dick said coming up behind Tim, “I brought you some coffee and,” he shifted to a conspiratorial tone with a tired grin, “the last cookie!”

Red Robin gave a brief half smile, he really didn’t have the energy for anything else. “Thanks Nightwing, coming with to the latest attempt?”

“Yeah, maybe this will be the one,” Dick said hopefully as they fell into step with each other, heading towards the room being used for the summoning ritual.

Tim nodded in agreement not making eye contact with Dick. He hadn’t found anything, nobody had. His ever optimistic brother was counting on him and he was letting him down.

They entered the ritual room. Batman was standing with Robin and Black Bat off to the side. He was deep in a discussion with Superman and Wonder Woman about the current relief efforts. Superman and the other league heavy hitters hadn’t been allowed to go back down to the Earth, it was too much of a risk with their power levels if any of them were to be possessed again. Constantine was preparing the circle yet again. This was the 42nd try.

“Anything?” Constantine asked.

Red Robin swallowed and looked down as the room’s occupants turned to look at him. He hadn’t found any new leads. Nothing they hadn’t already tried. He couldn’t bring himself to say it.

As he looked down, he saw the coffee and cookie Dick had brought him. One of Alfred’s cookies. The last cookie. The last cookie of the batch was…special…important…sacred even…he thought in an exhausted haze. They all fought over who would get the last cookie. Plus the coffee. Coffee was…he needed it. Coffee was energy and life. It was the only thing that kept him going most days. And…they had tried so many things. Why not this?

Tim looked up and wordlessly held up the cookie and the coffee.

Constantine looked surprised then shrugged. “Why not? We’ve tried every other bloody thing under the sun. Maybe the King has as sweet tooth.”

Tim placed the coffee and cookie in the appropriate place for the offering in the circle and they all stood back as Constantine began to chant.

It was happening again. Danny felt the tug at his core as yet another summoning was trying to whisk him away to who knows where. He sighed as he mentally braced himself for whatever gross thing they decided to offer up this time. Then, he tasted, chocolate? Coffee? It…it tasted good. Really good. This wasn’t gas station coffee and a store bought cookie. That cookie was…homemade? Or at least from a really good bakery.

Danny wanted that cookie. He’d been wanting something just like this. Just for him. Now it was literally being offered to him.

He shouldn’t. Should he? He’d be pulled to someplace completely foreign. Someplace far away. Very far. He probably couldn’t get back. Not right away. Maybe not ever.

But, there was nothing here. Once Sam and Tucker left he’d be completely alone. Maybe…maybe he should go. Maybe there might be something better? It can’t be worse.

“You know know what?” Danny exclaimed aloud. “I’m going to do it!” For the first time, he accepted an offering. He gave into the tugging feeling and felt himself being pulled away. “At least I’ll have a cookie,” he said as his voice and his body faded away.

Tim and the Justice League watched the circle as it lit up. Listened as Constantine chanted the words to the summoning. They watched as it reached the point where offerings began to be rejected. They listened as the chant reached the furthest part Constantine had ever recited before the ritual was stopped again. The circle stayed lit. For the first time, Constantine spoke the entire chant without interruption.

For a brief moment, none of them reacted. They had failed so many times they no longer expected success, especially not for a snack. Then they realized it had worked. As one they leaned forward slightly, tense with anticipation. Tim was in shock, he…this…it worked? Every hero in the room was fully focused on the circle. No one moved. They barely breathed waiting for the king to come through.

A single, white gloved hand came up through the floor of the circle. Then another. Then a head of white hair. The Ghost King pushed himself off the floor and floated up and away from the circle.

He’s was…a child or at least very young, Tim thought, analyzing automatically as he was trained to do in spite of his shock. The Ghost King appeared to be about Tim’s age, maybe a bit younger though he could just be on the shorter side. He had pure white hair that seemed to float as though he was underwater. His skin was extremely pale with a slight blueish tint to it. He had pointed ears and bright glowing green eyes. The king was dressed mostly in black with a stylized symbol on his chest of some kind. He had a cape that appeared to be made of the night sky, the stars that shone within, shifting and twinkling as he floated in the middle of the circle. A frozen crown floated slightly above his head glowing as green as the king’s eyes.

The King looked at them all briefly taking in the room. Then he looked down. His entire focus shifted to the offering. He tilted downwards so his head was mere inches from the cookie staring at it. He looked up. “Is this for me?” he asked in a hopeful and somewhat sad voice.

“It’s for you,” Batman said gently. He might be the Dark Knight, feared far and wide by villains (and quite a few heroes), but Batman was also a dad and he whatever they had been expecting, this was clearly a hungry child.

The Ghost King grinned happily, almost disbelievingly and reached down to grab the cookie. The heroes watched in silence as he slowly took a bite. His eyes closed as an expression of pure bliss came across his face. He took a sip of the coffee and let out a small whimper. “This is so good,” the boy king whispered. No one said anything as he enjoyed the rest of his treat.

After he finished it off, the young king seemed to realize everyone was watching him. “Right,” he said in an embarrassed tone as his cheeks tinted slightly green, “Umm so why did you summon me here? Other than sugar and caffeine? Not that those weren’t good! They were!”

Superman hesitated briefly before stepping forward. This was a child. Constantine had warned them they couldn’t react to the King’s appearance but they had all been expecting an eldritch monster. Something terrifying, not a teenager. Still, he had known powerful entities that pretended to be children and he had known children that were powerful and they needed the Ghost King. “I’m Kal-El of Krypton. On Earth, I’m known as Superman. Are you the ghost king?”

“Oh, right. Yes. That’s me. I’m Danny Phantom. High King of the Infinite Realms,” the king responded straightening slightly.

“Your majesty, we summoned you because we need your help. An unknown ghost from the infinite realms is attacking Earth and we can’t stop them.”

“Of course I can help,” the King said and started confidently floating forward only to abruptly stop. He looked confused for a moment, glancing down at the circle understanding dawned on his face. “Okay so, not to be, like, greedy or anything. I would totally help with the ghost for free! But, umm…I think to get out of the circle I’m supposed to make a deal with you? Like, there has to be something your giving me in exchange for your request? Sorry…”

The heroes looked at each other, King Phantom seemed, almost embarrassed to be asking. They had known they would need to make a deal and had discussed what they could offer but they had all anticipated basing their offer on what the Ghost King accepted as a sacrifice. They had braced themselves for a monster demanding blood, an ancient being declaring they would only help if given double their weight in gold. They had no idea what to offer a bashful teenager that showed up for a cookie.

“Roast Beef,” Tim blurted impulsively. He cringed a bit, and thought oops, really shouldn’t be inviting powerful interdimensional beings home without asking first. He quickly glanced at Batman who nodded back. The Ghost King was looking at him questioningly. “Roast beef,” he said again, “with potatoes and roasted vegetables.”

“And rolls, the good soft kind with butter,” Dick chimed in helpfully.

“Dessert,” added Black Bat softly.

The Ghost King’s eyes were wide, “A cookie and dinner, this is the best summoning ever,” he said to himself. He focused on Red Robin and held out his hand with a smile, “Deal!”

Red Robin shook King Phantom’s hand. The circle briefly glowed brighter before the light went out sealing the pact.

“Point the way , umm…I guess I don’t know your name?”

“Red Robin”

“Yum,” the King responded instantly. At Tim’s look of confusion, he blushed a bright green all the way to the tips of his ears. “I guess they don’t have that in this dimension….it’s, well, never mind.” The King looked away and Tim tried not to laugh (he should not be thinking words like “cute” and “adorable” about the ruler of an entire dimension).

“This way your majesty,” Superman said trying to hide his amusement as he led the way towards the monitor room.

Batman strode towards the main monitor display keying in several commands. “This is the last known location of the hostile entity,” he said indicating the satellite view along with a map view. “We can transport you there and give you access to any resources at our disposal.”

Tim had been watching King Phantom. As they entered the monitor room, his eyes had gone impossibly wide. “I’m in space,” the king whispered in wonder.

With Batman calling his attention to the screen, the Ghost King’s gaze snapped towards him. “No, I don’t need anything, I can get there myself but if you have transport that works too.”

“Are you sure you don’t need anything?” Superman asked glancing at the others. All of them silently wondering if this boy could truly defeat the seemingly unstoppable evil spirit that had been plaguing their world.

“Nope, I’m good!”

“This way then,” Superman responded heading towards the Zeta-tubes.

17 minutes and 46 seconds. That’s how long it took King Phantom to defeat the ghost that had been terrorizing the planet for the last 9 days. I can’t get a pizza that fast, he thought with disbelief. Tim had watched the monitor display, he had noted the time. They recorded everything and he still didn’t believe it. Less than 20 minutes to bring down an entity that had defeated the entire Justice League, all in exchange for Tim’s snack and the promise of dinner.

Phantom floated back up through the floor of the Watchtower. “All done!”

The heroes glanced at each other, still reeling from the powerful display they had just witnessed. Tim saw the Ghost King’s smile falter and an uncertain look come across his face as he saw their reaction.

“Well, sounds like it’s dinner time then, your highness,” he said deliberately injecting cheer into his voice.

King Phantom’s smile returned as he turned towards Tim, “Call me Danny.”

It’s said that Alfred’s cooking could bring tears of joy to the eyes. Even so it was rare to see someone burst into tears after tasting one of his meals. “It’s so good,” King Phantom sobbed (literally, he was sobbing). “So much care and love. It’s incredible.” And Batman reassessed. Their current working theory on why Tim’s snack had worked when so many others had failed was Tim was the one that was more emotionally a sacrifice. None of them thought twice about offering blood or treasure. Constantine might have grumped about artifacts, but it was less he was attached to them and more he might need them as leverage later. The member who had offered he first born was offering something she actively didn’t want.

Tim has desperately wanted that coffee and cookie. So though it was a minor thing, giving it up was more of a sacrifice than any they’d tried so far. But now Batman had a new theory. What if it had to do with the emotions the sacrifices were symbolic of? Is the nature of the sacrifice was a preview of what could be expected. Blood would be pain, death, war. Treasure and Artifacts greed or covetousness. The offer of a firstborn might have failed due to insincerity, or due to all the negatives involved in kidnapping and trafficking. But Tim’s cookie had been made with all the love for his family, and then gifted to Tim from Dick in an act of brotherly love. And King Phantom came running. If they needed his help in the future, and given how easily he handled that threat they might, it would work better if they prepped sacrifices associated with positive emotions. Warm blankets, stuffed animals, and of course Alfred’s cooking.

If You Give a Ghost a Cookie

Danny was so, so tired. And hungry. When was the last time he had a decent meal, he wondered? A week ago? Two weeks? Longer…? The days just seemed to blend together more and more since Jazz left for college.

Danny flew mindlessly over Amity Park, not really looking for anything, just…not wanting to go home. Not that there was really a reason to go home anymore, he thought. Not like his parents will notice he’s not there. With Jazz gone, there was no one there to rein his parents in. No voice of reason to point out they should be eating dinner instead of disassembling weapons on the table. No logical big sister to cite statistics on how poor sleep affects school performance in teenagers when their experiments were shaking the building at 1 o’clock in the morning.

With Jazz gone, his parent’s ghost obsession had reached new heights. Their weapons and experiments grew more deadly by the day and Danny…he was an afterthought…one they barely managed to think of at all most days…Danny was the underachieving youngest child. He was the screw up. The one who fell asleep in class. The one who got detention. At 17 years old and a senior in high school he was leaving the house soon anyway.

Danny’s mind unwillingly thought back to that day, like watching a train wreck he just couldn’t look away. He had been floating around after patrol a bit. Not long, he’d just wanted to stargaze for a while. The sky had been so clear that night. He hadn’t even noticed the sound of the GAV or the whine of the weapons charging until he felt the burning in his thigh from being shot. It was just a graze (a bad graze…but it’s not like his parent’s knew they were shooting at their own son! Plus,he got away quickly like he always did, so it was fine!) He had patched himself up as best he could and gone home.

Walking through the door, he had gone towards the kitchen to get some dinner, maybe even some fudge if his dad hadn’t eaten all of it. His parents had been sitting at the kitchen table, talking about him…not him him. Other him. Ghost him. Phantom. Talking about how close they were to getting him this time. The experiments they could run. What weapons might work better next time. Danny remembered standing there. Only a few feet away, in plain view of his Mom and Dad, while they talked about hurting him. Again. He remembered the blood trickling down his leg having leaked through the hastily applied bandages. Standing silently in the doorway waiting… and…nothing…his parents never spoke to him. They’d never asked if he was hungry. Never asked how his day had gone. Dad didn’t offer fudge. Mom didn’t give him a hug. They were too busy plotting to capture him…to hurt him…

That…that was the tipping point. The last straw. The moment Danny had known he could never trust his parents with his secret. That..they weren’t really his parents anymore. Not the way parents should be.

These days, Jack and Maddie (not Mom and dad, not anymore) really only ever spoke to him to ask why he hadn’t cleaned the lab. Occasionally they would mention him going to college next year. They didn’t ask or notice that Danny hadn’t mentioned any colleges.

Jazz had excelled in school. She had the grades and the SAT scores to apply anywhere and she had done the research on her own. She had applied, she had arranged to tour campuses. She had collected pamphlets and made charts and written pro/con lists. She had done it all without their help.

Danny didn’t have the grades. He didn’t have the SAT scores. He had done a bit better, later on. After that first year, it was easier to handle the ghosts. Technically, as the ghost king, he could just order them not to attack (he never did, he needed to fulfill his Obsessions and so did they). Still, the improvement wasn’t enough. He was only just skating by with passing grades. No college would look at his application and think anything other than “automatic rejection”.

I can’t tell her, he thought to himself for the hundredth time. Jazz deserves to be happy, to become a psychologist and have a normal life. Danny won’t…he can’t take away her dream.

Besides, she can’t help anyway. Not really. Danny’s old dream of becoming an astronaut was laughably impossible now. He had no hope of getting into college much less the kind of college NASA would look for in an applicant and even if he did, he’d definitely fail the physical on account of being, well..dead.

Tucker and Sam would be leaving soon too, then I’ll be completely alone, he thought despondently. That’s where they were this weekend. Sam was touring the University of California, Berkeley and Tucker was looking at MIT. Despite their differing interests and planned majors, they’d even discussed going to the same college together. He hadn’t talked to them about his parents. He tried to keep up a cheerful front for them. He didn’t want to hold his friends back from their dreams anymore than he wanted to drag his sister away from hers.

Danny had halfhearted plans to try and find an apartment and maybe give community college a try. Probably get a job of some kind. Nasty Burger is hiring his brain supplied, Danny winced at the thought. More than one person had told him he’d wind up flipping burgers if he didn’t apply himself more.

He’d also thought about just…leaving. Maybe to the ghost zone? Maybe somewhere else entirely. What future did he have here?

Danny was just so done with everything. And on top of everything else, he thought, word has gotten out the ghost king is back and I get to be summoned by every Tom, Dick and Harry who can get their hands on the spell.

Granted, Danny hasn’t actually accepted a single summons yet. Part of the spell is the offering and he can reject it. He has rejected all of them. That part, the rejecting part, isn’t hard. The first time he did it by accident. It was automatic, instinctual. It’s the entire rest of the process that’s disgusting, he thought with revulsion. When he is summoned, it starts with a vaguely unpleasant pull in his core, tugging at him. It’s annoying but fairly easy to ignore at first. Then, the tugging gets harder, then it starts to take over his senses. Specifically, taste and touch. Sometimes he can hear a bit (Danny has had enough of poorly enunciated Latin to last the rest of his afterlife thank you very much). That first summons (and in way too many since), Danny had tasted blood, overwhelmingly, suddenly, blood. He’d been in English class at the time and had bolted from the room without asking (detention, again) and straight to the boy’s bathroom. He’d barely made it in time to vomit everything he’d eaten that day straight into the toilet.

Apparently, vomiting counts as rejecting the offering. Who knew? Danny has since learned to reject the offerings faster (he hardly vomits at all anymore). Some of the people trying to summon him have mixed it up a bit, gold is a pretty frequent offering. Jewels, of course. Blood though, blood continues to be the most popular choice.

Between the frequent and unwelcome taste tests from hell with the summonings and the lack of edible food at home, Danny would do just about anything for a Klondike bar at this point.

The last few days have been particularly bad. Some asshat (or asshats? Danny’s heard more than one voice) just won’t take the hint and have been summoning him nonstop the last few days. This one felt…further away…that some of the others had. Clockwork had told him the infinite realms was, well, infinite. That it connected to other worlds and realities and dimensions away from his own. That feeling of distance is what made him think this was the same group that had been trying to summon him so insistently.

He just…desperately wanted some warmth. A meal made with love. Even a snack. Someone who cared enough to make something just for him.

The thought passed through Danny’s head, if one of those idiots who keeps summoning me put a decent meal as the offering I might just go…

An unknown and powerful being had attacked Metropolis 9 days ago. They had wreaked utter havoc and Superman hadn’t been able to even delay them, much less stop them. Nothing Superman could do had even touched the hellish green glowing creature. The entity phased through solid matter like it wasn’t there. It could turn invisible. It could send energy blasts that caused massive amounts of property damage. It could possess people….control them completely. That was the worst one. When Superman tried to stop it. It had fought at first. Then it simply took over.

Controlling Superman, the entity had leveled 3 city blocks before it and grown bored with it’s temporary plaything and left him in the middle of the wreckage. Clark didn’t dare go after him for fear of being controlled again.

The rest of the Justice League had been called in. Others went after the entity. Green Lantern. Flash. Wonder Woman. They all failed. Superman was far from the last to be taken over by the being. The destruction caused was catastrophic. It had moved from Metropolis to other cities, then to other countries with seemingly no pattern or reasoning, carving a path of devastation as it went.

The Justice League Dark was consulted. They didn’t know how it came to be here but they at least knew something of what it was. A being of the infinite realms. A ghost. “Not like you’re thinking,” Constantine had said. “They’re called ghosts, or they call themselves ghosts, at least some of the time, but not all of them used to be people. Beings of the infinite realms are ghosts of a different sort. Not something you want to get mixed up in.”

Next they had tried spells. Artifacts. Rituals. Still, nothing could stop the ghost.

Now, they were down to their last chance. Every other option had been exhausted. This was a the last ditch effort, the hail mary pass, the I hope it works because we have nothing else option. They were trying to summon another ghost to stop the first one. They were trying to summon the ghost king…and it wasn’t working.

The problem was the offering. Constantine had explained the summoning ritual calls for one and the ghost king can reject it so they need to make it good.

They had tried blood first. “It’s traditional”, Constantine had said with a slight grimace. The major league members attending the ritual had all donated (a pint each) for the offering. The blood of the most powerful beings on earth would surely make a good offering and they were out of time. It didn’t work. The ritual had barely begun before it was over, the offering rejected.

Next, the blood of virgins was considered because apparently ancient, eldritch beings can be picky sometimes. After several extremely awkward conversations with various younger superheroes (Tim was thankfully excluded, he’s never been so thankful to live in a family of detectives that know almost everything about each other), the second offering was made and also summarily rejected.

They tried gold, silver, copper. Various precious jewels. They tried magical artifacts (Constantine was not happy at all). One of the league members who had no children and had no intention of ever having children had the clever idea of offering their first born.

Nothing. Nothing was working. Every single offering was rejected. All members of the league not directly involved with the current ritual attempt or benched were out working damage control. They had stopped even trying to defeat the ghost and were concentrating on evacuation. Desperately trying to prevent further lives lost.

Tim was just so done with everything. He had been researching endlessly trying to find something, anything that might work for the offering with no luck. Most of the bat family members had been working damage control and occasionally rotating up to the Watchtower to try and help with the summoning. Tim and Oracle had been put primarily on research. Tim had wanted to help with the situation on the ground. He saw the destruction on his screens. He saw his family coming back lifeless and exhausted. “You and Oracle are the best at finding information,” Batman had said, “we need you here.” So he looked. He sifted through endless archeological reports, arcane texts, ancient poems and ballads and folklore. Trying to find something, anything at all the Ghost King might accept and still nothing.

“Hey baby bird,” Dick said coming up behind Tim, “I brought you some coffee and,” he shifted to a conspiratorial tone with a tired grin, “the last cookie!”

Red Robin gave a brief half smile, he really didn’t have the energy for anything else. “Thanks Nightwing, coming with to the latest attempt?”

“Yeah, maybe this will be the one,” Dick said hopefully as they fell into step with each other, heading towards the room being used for the summoning ritual.

Tim nodded in agreement not making eye contact with Dick. He hadn’t found anything, nobody had. His ever optimistic brother was counting on him and he was letting him down.

They entered the ritual room. Batman was standing with Robin and Black Bat off to the side. He was deep in a discussion with Superman and Wonder Woman about the current relief efforts. Superman and the other league heavy hitters hadn’t been allowed to go back down to the Earth, it was too much of a risk with their power levels if any of them were to be possessed again. Constantine was preparing the circle yet again. This was the 42nd try.

“Anything?” Constantine asked.

Red Robin swallowed and looked down as the room’s occupants turned to look at him. He hadn’t found any new leads. Nothing they hadn’t already tried. He couldn’t bring himself to say it.

As he looked down, he saw the coffee and cookie Dick had brought him. One of Alfred’s cookies. The last cookie. The last cookie of the batch was…special…important…sacred even…he thought in an exhausted haze. They all fought over who would get the last cookie. Plus the coffee. Coffee was…he needed it. Coffee was energy and life. It was the only thing that kept him going most days. And…they had tried so many things. Why not this?

Tim looked up and wordlessly held up the cookie and the coffee.

Constantine looked surprised then shrugged. “Why not? We’ve tried every other bloody thing under the sun. Maybe the King has as sweet tooth.”

Tim placed the coffee and cookie in the appropriate place for the offering in the circle and they all stood back as Constantine began to chant.

This wasn’t gas station coffee and a store bought cookie. That cookie was…homemade? Or at least from a really good bakery.

Danny wanted that cookie. He’d been wanting something just like this. Just for him. Now it was literally being offered to him.

He shouldn’t. Should he? He’d be pulled to someplace completely foreign. Someplace far away. Very far. He probably couldn’t get back. Not right away. Maybe not ever.

But, there was nothing here. Once Sam and Tucker left he’d be completely alone. Maybe…maybe he should go. Maybe there might be something better? It can’t be worse.

“You know know what?” Danny exclaimed aloud. “I’m going to do it!” For the first time, he accepted an offering. He gave into the tugging feeling and felt himself being pulled away. “At least I’ll have a cookie,” he said as his voice and his body faded away.

“This way your majesty,” Superman said trying to hide his amusement as he led the way towards the monitor room.

Batman strode towards the main monitor display keying in several commands. “This is the last known location of the hostile entity,” he said indicating the satellite view along with a map view. “We can transport you there and give you access to any resources at our disposal.”

Tim had been watching King Phantom. As they entered the monitor room, his eyes had gone impossibly wide. “I’m in space,” the king whispered in wonder.

With Batman calling his attention to the screen, the Ghost King’s gaze snapped towards him. “No, I don’t need anything, I can get there myself but if you have transport that works too.”

“Are you sure you don’t need anything?” Superman asked glancing at the others. All of them silently wondering if this boy could truly defeat the seemingly unstoppable evil spirit that had been plaguing their world.

“Nope, I’m good!”

“This way then,” Superman responded heading towards the Zeta-tubes.

17 minutes and 46 seconds. That’s how long it took King Phantom to defeat the ghost that had been terrorizing the planet for the last 9 days. I can’t get a pizza that fast, he thought with disbelief. Tim had watched the monitor display, he had noted the time. They recorded everything and he still didn’t believe it. Less than 20 minutes to bring down an entity that had defeated the entire Justice League, all in exchange for Tim’s snack and the promise of dinner.

Phantom floated back up through the floor of the Watchtower. “All done!”

The heroes glanced at each other, still reeling from the powerful display they had just witnessed. Tim saw the Ghost King’s smile falter and an uncertain look come across his face as he saw their reaction.

“Well, sounds like it’s dinner time then, your highness,” he said deliberately injecting cheer into his voice.

King Phantom’s smile returned as he turned towards Tim, “Call me Danny.”
