Rewatching "Something Blue" and remembered how fucking much I love this exchange:

It's so interesting because not only does this showcase once again Spike's absolutely excellent skills at reading people, which has always been one of his defining features (which is fascinating in its own right since normally that requires at least some degree of finely honed empathy).

Also delightful: him immediately trying to downplay the fact that he apparently a) paid enough attention to the people around him and b) is actually really sensitive to those people by implying that hahaha actually super easy nevermind him

Also this is super early s4 so the fact that he even shares this insight sheds a lot of light on him, because why would he do that? Why would he care that Willow is "hanging by a thread?". Possibly he just can't abide people being idiots or deluding themselves in front of him, but I like to that think out of the Scooby gang Willow is the one he likes most (he definitely interacted the most with, what with kidnapping her that one time).
