hello, been lurking for awhile but anyways jonathan toews soft launched his retirement today so then of course i had to go re-read just to break my own fall, which is one of my fave 1988 works ever (it breaks my heart everytime, and i'm pretty damned close to heartbroken right now). and then i thought i'd come on here to thank you for it, and to let you know that in 2026 some people don't even know 1988 anymore, but some of us won't ever forget (and take great comfort and joy in your past works on a regular basis still).
also if i hadn't come on i wouldn't have seen that you have a book coming out! congrats so much on that and you defo will have a reader in me when it comes out.
This is an absolutely wonderful ask to receive, thank you!! Definitely weird to see Jonny retire after the role he's played in my hrpf over the past decade-plus. It's been a few years since 1988 was a main pairing for me, and this retirement's been a long time coming, but still, talk about the end of an era. Back when I started I didn't even properly understand the implications of these being real people we were writing about; it hadn't occurred to me yet that they would age and move to different teams and eventually leave the league. And now my original pairing is half-retired.
It means so much to know that their stories live on, though. Some of my favorite love stories that I've ever read or written are about those two. And I know people are still reading them: I still get kudos and comments for my 1988 fic. They're the foundation of my wolfverse, which I'm still planning to add more to once I get a bit more Where You Lead out of my system. Their fictional selves aren't gone. But hrpf is moving beyond them, and that is bitter and sweet in equal measures for me!
