We are sharing some of our favourite gifs each day this month for Antifa Internationalâs fifth anniversary. Today: Nazi monuments being destroyed after the defeat of Nazi Germany.
If this offends you đ unfollow me đ
And a note to confederates: these monuments werenât kept because this was âhistoryâ. These monuments celebrated horrible things and we BLEW THEM UP.
This is important.
Itâs not a âloopholeâ itâs explicit within the text of the amendment
âLoopholeâ lmfao like itâs a fucking accident, like it wasnât purposefully structured to reclaim and expand a source of free labor
We never outlawed slavery in America. We simply transferred ownership of slaves from individual landowners to the government and large corporations.
Other fun facts about prison labor corporations:
-Federal and state-run prisons usually pay their slaves minimum wage; some states, however, like Colorado, pay $2/hour.
-Private prisons pay $.17-.50/hour. The highest paying private prison is in Tennessee, which pays $.50/hour for âhighly-skilled labor.â
-You think that hasnât affected wages in the US? You think that hasnât removed manufacturing jobs from the economy?
-Companies that contract with private prisons for their slave labor include: IBM, Boeing, Motorola, Microsoft, AT&T, Wireless, Texas Instrument, Dell, Compaq, Honeywell, Hewlett-Packard, Nortel, Lucent Technologies, 3Com, Intel, Northern Telecom, TWA, Nordstromâs, Revlon, Macyâs, Pierre Cardin, Target Stores. Many, many products that say âMade in USAâ were made in prison.
-Private prisons often have quotas with the states, wherein the states contractually guarantee that they will provide a certain number of prisoners to fill the beds of a private prison, and if they donât then they owe the private prison millions of dollars. Iâm not making this up. It happened in Colorado after they legalized weed.
-States have a financial incentive to lock up their citizens.
-All of the above corporations have a financial incentive to see citizens get locked up.
-This is why Jeff Sessions is going after weed. The prison industrial complex needs slaves.
-To the shock of absolutely no one, private prisons have even more disparate racial demographics than federal/state prisons.
-Where do you think they send undocumented immigrants who have been rounded up? Thatâs right, private prisons. Thatâs why so many of them are in the South. So they take immigrants who are earning some kind of comparable wage and paying income tax to the government, and put them in prison where the wages are absurdly depressed and the prison pays virtually nothing in taxes.
-Oh yeah: private prisons pay virtually nothing in taxes. Because they technically manage real estate (prison as housing), they get all sorts of tax breaks and subsidies.
Tl;dr the prison industrial complex removes jobs from the economy, depresses wages, cheats the tax system, and ENSLAVES PEOPLE, usually people of color.

fuckin lol
Another day, another politician that thinks Trump doing something they do means Trump should get all the criticism instead of realizing theyâre both wrong
The difference here is that Trump spends tax payer money for his golfing and AOC spent her own paycheck on a video game to unwind. They literally arenât the same thing at all
Right, where do you think that paycheck comes from?
Were you born this stupid or did you have to work at it?
Ok, just to be clear, do politicians get payed with tax money or not?
If you honestly think a government employee spending their own salary is functionally identical to charging leisure trips to your own golf courses to an expense account and billing the Secret Service for being there, just because theyâre both paid for with taxpayer money, I canât help you.
But whatâs the difference in the end? They both paid for something with taxpayer money.
Okay. Itâs very simple: When the government disburses money to its employees in the form of a salary, the transaction where the taxpayer is concerned is concluded. The taxpayer has paid the employee for services rendered. What that employee does with that salary after that isnât the taxpayerâs business, since the taxpayer already got what they paid for.
To put it another way, you wouldnât argue that Doris from the DMV is âspending taxpayer moneyâ when she spends some of her salary on a pedicure and claim itâs the equivalent of a presidential golfing trip, or that a soldier buying a case of beer with his salary is a waste of tax money. Because you are paying them for the job they did.
In other words, itâs not fucking taxpayer money anymore.
It is, however, still taxpayer money when it is part of an account set aside for expenses incurred in the execution of oneâs duties, and the President uses it to pay himself for taking vacations, and to pay himself again for the taxpayer-provided security detail.
And even if I were to play your stupid false equivalence game: At $300 per console and a game price of $59.99, AOC would have to buy 369,455 Nintendo Switches with a copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons for each to reach the $133 million racked up by Trumpâs golf trips. So even if you were to blubber about how itâs all a tragic loss of taxpayer money either way, thereâs your fucking difference you goddamn moron.
Weâre done here.
me seeing the mailman buying twizzlers at the grocery store: wtf thatâs my taxpayer money
everyone in fantasy novels is horny on main for elves and itâs honestly a travesty like why the hell would you want to marry an elf youâll just spend the rest of your days growing old in the woods with a bunch of immortal bastards whose heads are so far up their asses they think singing week-long ballads is prime entertainment and say shit like âthouâ and âbeseechâ unironically y'all should be hooking up with dwarves who 1. actually know how to throw the fuck down and let loose at a party 2. will literally shower you in diamond dust and gold they mined and crafted with their bare hands and 3. can sling you over their shoulder like a sack of potatoes with their huge muscular arms developed from hours of said mining and crafting. thereâs literally no contest.
Legolas ghostwrote this
One of the most important things I learned in my Language and the Law class is that law enforcement will intentionally misinterpret every type of statement asking for a lawyer as not asking for a lawyer. Even directly saying it like this âI will not speak to you without a lawyerâ can be taken as a simple statement of fact rather than a request for a lawyer. You literally have to state âI am now invoking my right to a lawyerâ and every time they try to proceed with an interrogation you have to answer every question with âI am invoking my right to have a lawyer presentâ. You canât just tell them you wonât talk without a lawyer or that you want a lawyer. You have to state that you are invoking your rights. Otherwise they could just say âwell they just said they wouldnât speak without a lawyer present. Thatâs not invoking their rights to a lawyer. Itâs just stating a fact.â even just stating your right to a lawyer doesnât count!
PLEASE share this addition. I am a lawyer who works in criminal defense, and this is one of the most avoidable things that people consistently get wrong about the Miranda rights.
Here are some more âambiguousâ phrases which courts have found DO NOT invoke your right to a lawyer:
âMaybe I should speak to my lawyer first.â
âI might like a lawyer.â
âI think I should have a lawyer present for this.â
âCould I speak to my lawyer first?â
âHow long until my lawyer gets here?â
And perhaps most egregiously â âGet me a lawyer, dawg â âcause this is not whatâs up.â
Here are the magic phrases which you need to know if you want to invoke your Miranda rights:
1) âAm I free to leave?â
Itâs worth asking this even if the answer is obvious. Even if the officer does not let you leave, by forcing them to admit that you are not free to leave, you are creating a record which your attorney can use to prove that you were in custody. Miranda rights only apply if the interrogation is custodial, meaning that police officers will frequently claim that their suspects were ânot in custodyâ to get around their Miranda rights.
2)Â âI am invoking my right to remain silent.â
Simply staying silent will not invoke your right to remain silent. As absurd as this is, you must explicitly say that you are invoking your right to remain silent in order to invoke that right.
3)Â âI am invoking my right to an attorney.â
As stated above, you must be not only clear and unambiguous, but clear and legally unambiguous. Donât get cute. Donât get sassy. And on the flip side, donât get intimidated and use verbal ticks to minimize your request. Say the line with those words exactly â say it clearly, and say it once, and then say nothing else.
Because even after youâve done all this, the police can still try to get you to talk. Theyâre not supposed to interrogate you, but theyâre allowed to make casual conversation, and if that conversation just happens to circle back around to the thing they wanted to question you about, well, thatâs really your fault for talking after you said you wouldnât, isnât it? Canât possibly fault the poor officers when you initiated â if you really wanted to have your rights respected, you wouldnât have talked to them in the first place.
The police know this, and they will mercilessly exploit this loophole. So, once youâve successfully invoked your Miranda rights, any and all conversation you have with police officers will put those rights back into jeopardy.Â
Putting it all together:
Ask: âAm I free to leave?â
If they say no, say:Â âI am invoking my right to remain silent and I am invoking my right to an attorney.â
And then shut up and do not say a single thing to them for any reason whatsoever until you have actually spoken to an attorney. Yes, even if it takes hours. Yes, even if they start talking to you about something else.
Finally, a very important disclaimer:
I may be a lawyer, but Iâm not your lawyer, and I cannot guarantee that what Iâve just laid out here will always work for every situation. We didnât get to this bizarre and absurd place overnight â we built this ridiculous system piecemeal, by deciding on a case-by-case basis that certain phrases were âtoo ambiguousâ or certain types of questioning werenât actually questioning at all. The law is still in flux, and is still fundamentally out to get you, and willing to bend plain meaning beyond all recognition to do it. Even if you invoke your rights perfectly, exactly as I have specified above, thereâs a chance that your invocation of rights will be disqualified on some new technicality that no oneâs even thought of yet â and thatâs precisely the problem.

you know what scares me? what will you do once george floyd's name fades out of the news cycle? will you go back to your "normal" life or whatever normalcy you've created during this pandemic and forget? will you stop listening, learning, speaking up? will you forget about this and disappear only to come back again until another black person succumbs to state sponsored violence? you probably will. so please don't stop learning. please don't stop listening to and amplifying the voices of black people. please don't stop speaking up. dig deep and find the courage to keep this up. insist that you and everyone you know fight for a future where black people can live without fearing for their lives. a future where white supremacy is fundamentally annihilated.
Proud of this uncle.
Also, this family was providing space for protesters to escape tear gas and get medical attention in their restaurant before the fire:
...the Islam family opened a room in their spacious restaurant to medics, who set up a makeshift field hospital. Ms. Islam said she saw at least 200 people come in and out on both Tuesday and Wednesday night. Some needed to catch their breath after inhaling tear gas, she said. One woman had been hit in the eye by a rubber bullet, damaging her vision. A rubber bullet tore open the back of another manâs neck. When he fell unconscious, the medics laid him out on a table.

âHello everyone!
Thank you to everyone for checking in. Sadly Gandhi Mahal has caught fire and has been damaged. We wonât lose hope though, I am so grateful for our neighbors who did their best to stand guard and protect Gandhi Mahal, Your efforts wonât go unrecognized. Donât worry about us, we will rebuild and we will recover. This is Hafsa, Ruhelâs daughter writing, as I am sitting next to my dad watching the news, I hear him say on the phone; âlet my building burn, Justice needs to be served, put those officers in jailâ [sentence highlighted in picture]. Gandhi Mahal May have felt the flames last night, but our fiery drive to help protect and stand with our community will never die! Peace be with everyone. #JusticeforGeorgeFloyd #BLMâ
Second image is a screenshot of an excerpt from a New York Times article titled âTheir Minneapolis Restaurant Burned, but They Back the Protest,â featuring a picture of Ruhel Islam, the Blangladeshi immigrant who owns Gandhi Mahal, smiling broadly as he poses next to a plant in front of the Gandhi Mahal. The excerpt reads as follows:
âWe grew up in a traumatic police stateâ - Ruhel Islam, the Bangladeshi immigrant whose restaurant burned this morning, stands with Minneapolis protestors - âwe can rebuild a building, but we cannot rebuild a human.â

oi guys for the love of fuck, iâm not gonna be nice about it
if youâre a non black poc, or worse, white, do not fucking make this about you. do not make it about aesthetics. do not make it about anything other than it is.
rebloging myself bc someone asked: the point of this post is beyond whether you can or canât reblog it. the point is whether you should or shouldnât.
if youâre a non black poc, or a white person, what youâre called to do now is to stand in solidarity.
see someone making BLM into a relatable aesthetic? call it out
see a post with donation links? reblog it and donate if you can (x), (x), (x)
the MN freedom fund itself is bringing attention to other fundraisers. check their twitter.Â
most importantly know this doesnât end in the internet, that is not enough. family or friends saying anti-black bullshit? say something. read on the subject of racism and anti-black state violence, prison abolitionism, etc etc
if youâre not from the US learn about what is happening in YOUR country re: black communities and learn how to help them
do not speak over black people
deplatform racists
go to a protest (with the necessary precautions)
sign petitions
do not donate to anything shaun king posts because he has a history of asking for money in the name of BLM and then the money vanishes. the mn freedom fund has made the clarification already
etc etc etc
listen to black people, and stand with them. interject in the situations that you can, and educate yourself and others. as riots and protests spread know many states and cities freedom funds will need donations. check with national bail fund network, or free them all.
donât ask me if you can reblog, ask yourselves how can you contribute. you shouldnât be asking if you can help, but how. it doesnât begin by reading theory, it begins by caring about people
