Avalon didn’t have to be a mind reader to know that something was up with Cyrus. What she lacked in telepathic abilities like Jaden’s, she made up for in being able to read people, and even though she and Jaden had been apart from Cyrus up until the last few months Ava still caught on that something was up with the youngest Harkness. It was just a matter of time before she found out.
She wasn’t his sister, not by blood at least, and he was his own adult and had his own business, but he was still her family and she worried. Especially when he hung out with people she knew nothing about. Call it protectiveness, maybe it was hypocritical of her, but she hated not knowing who her baby brother associated with.
She was out running errands when she could’ve sworn she spotted Cyrus in one of the new vegan places that had recently popped up and had to do a double take. Because it was Cy, talking with someone…she did not recognize. Some dark-haired scruffy person whom she didn’t know. And she had been wondering how the food tasted at this place… Before she thought it entirely through she’d gone in and ordered something off the menu – there was no meat, that was a bummer, but she could go hunting or something later – before ‘spotting’ Cyrus.
“Oh my God, Cyrus, I didn’t realize you and your…friend…were here!”
It was a bit odd to be spending actual time with someone, especially when they weren’t strapped down to some barbaric torture table, but it was certainly a pleasant experience. For someone who ( rather desperately ) needed company, and yet was so often denied it, it was nearly something of a blessing, even if he would’ve rather not admitted to such – that would be pathetic! So, not for the first time that week, he found himself at some obscure ( but not too obscure ) restaurant, chatting away with Cyrus about anything and everything.
It was again, a bit odd that he was willing to actually share anything with him ( and without coercion on his part, no less! ) but he found that he tended to have that effect on people, and with the sorts of conversations he and the younger man had, he was more than willing to listen. After all, it wasn’t every day that he ( and Cyrus, for that matter ) could talk about murder and other strange, violent topics in great detail… especially without fear of being judged and reported to the authorities. Anyone who listened in on their conversations might’ve been concerned, of course, but with David’s social magnetism, it was more than likely they’d leave well enough alone.
“So, I had him by the–” He was cut off from his latest tale when a woman approached the table, obviously an associate ( other friend? who knew! ) of the man sitting across from him. Lifting a brow, he shot a glance in Cyrus’ direction. “Friend of yours, I’m guessing?”
Cyrus felt his heart stop when appeared out of seemingly no where, what was she doing here? Did she know that this was a vegan place? Well, obviously she knew but like... Ava wasn’t vegan, very firmly not vegan from what he could remember. Unless that had changed in the last few days. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, taking a small sip of his lemonade before shrugging his shoulders. “Uh-huh... This is my friend David, David this is my sister Ava... Well not biological sister, but basically, she’s my sister. She’s know me since I was a kid. But uh-- Ava, if you want I guess...”
His mind wandered briefly, thinking about what an interaction between Ava and David would be like. It wouldn’t be too volatile now, would it? It’s not like either of them had any beef with each other, except for the fact that David did hate the Neph just as much as Cyrus did, if not more. Cyrus just wanted to enjoy his vegan ramen in peace, though he felt like that definitely wasn’t going to happen now. There was too much to explain, there was too much to hide. He was hoping David understood not to say anything about the cult or the murdering to Ava.
“We were just having lunch and talking about stuff, y’know, life and all those things. I uh-- you know me, I never really have friends my own age. And I feel like I’m babbling a bit. Please shut me up if I am babbling.”
