Saint Wilgefortis was a popular religious figure in the Middle Ages. She was revered as the protectress of maidens and women in unhappy marriages. She can be recognized because of her beard, a symbol of her devotion and the divine salvation granted upon her.
Many stories have been told about her, giving different versions of her life, but the general consensus is that she was the daughter of a lord, who promised her hand in marriage to a pagan king. She prayed to God and asked him to turn her into a creature her future husband would despise. She was given a beard, thanks to which her fiancé broke their engagement. Her furious father then had her crucified.
The historical existence of Saint Wilgefortis has been questioned throughout the centuries, and the Vatican no longer recognizes her as an "official" saint. However, trans and non-binary people of modern times have made her a symbol of freedom and pride.

All I know about faith is that it involves, should involve, vulnerability and love, prayer and solidarity with the oppressed.
