Astrophysics and Physics? Yancy was definitely not going to see him in any of her classes. She’d probably only run into him again by chance and hopefully not actually run into him like she had now.

Yancy looked at the boy and then at the ground, shaking her head. She looked up at Cyrus with a tight smile. 

"No but he knows me, well knows of me. I am the Pokemon Idol Nancy. It seems I have a fans on campus." She didn't like that she was now out as an idol but she had a feeling it wouldn't change Cyrus’ opinion of her too much.

Cyrus shrugged, "I'd never heard of you," Truth be told, even if he had heard of her, he wouldn't have particularly cared.  Celebrities and popular media never held much interest for him, as he found that it tended to be frivolous and often boring.

Just as long as Yancy's status didn't effect him, Cyrus didn't feel it mattered who she was.  And anyway, he barely knew her, he doubted it would ever effect him.

"No but thank you for talking with me," Yancy said. She felt bad for keeping him from whatever he may have been planning before she decided to collide with him. "What classes do you TA for? Maybe I’ll see you in one of them?" Yancy doubted it but it didn’t hurt to ask.

As she waited for a reply she noticed a boy move closer before looking from Yancy to Cyrus. She could feel the questions burning in him from his stare. ‘Are you Nancy?’, ‘Can I have your autograph?’, ‘Wanna go out sometime?’

She ignored the fan deciding to focus on Cyrus. She preferred people who didn’t know who she was some times. It was nicer not to be fawned over immediately.

Cyrus nodded, "Astrophysics and Physics," He responded, doubting that he would ever see the young woman in one of his classes; she didn't seen the type.  Of course, she might prove him wrong, but from what he knew, he doubted he would see her in a physics class in the near future.

Noticing a boy edging closer to the two of them, Cyrus frowned slightly.  He shot a glance between Yancy and the boy, "Do you know him?"

Yancy nodded. She was distracted momentarily when some guys passed by them and whispered pointing at her. She couldn’t tell if it was due to her being an idol or good-looking. She turned back to Cyrus.

"If you get the chance you should go to Unova. I know I’m a little bias it being my home, but it’s an incredible place. All the regions are different. I’m glad my job allows me to travel."

Yancy put up a hand, frowning slightly. “Sorry. I just keep on talking. Sometimes I forget other people have things they need to do.”

Cyrus glanced absently at the group of boys when Yancy did, shrugging off their actions as simply being college-aged boys.  

"I'll keep it in mind for my next vacation," Not that he ever went on vacation, but he figured that it was the polite thing to say.  Maybe one day he would visit other regions, but now, it simply wasn't feasible; between his studies, and searching for a job, time was short, and money was tight.

He nodded and looked down at his watch, noticing that a fair amount of time had passed since he had started talking to Yancy.  At least he hadn't had something important he needed to do, all he had been going to do was eat dinner and make lesson plans - nothing particularly interesting.

"Sinnoh? I haven’t been there in quite some time. I think maybe a few years ago." Yancy had performed a concert there. "I am from Unova originally but I’ve traveled a lot in the last several years. Never really been to Kalos."

Yancy was glad that he was talking to her instead of just dismissing the conversation and walking off. Now that they were talking he didn’t seem so bad. “What made you choose LCU?”

"I've never visited Unova," He said, almost absently, "I contemplated doing my graduate work there, though, instead of here," As he spoke, Cyrus contemplated how he would answer her last question.  His reasons for choosing to study here in Kalos had been personal ones, not something he wanted to reveal to someone he had only met recently.

At last, he settled on an edited version of the truth, "It's a good school and it's location was ideal for me."

"Yeah well I haven’t been paying too much attention. It’s a little overwhelming being back in college and well…" Yancy was going to mention all the attention she was now receiving from her fans. She had been distracted. "I’m sure I have then and just not realized it."

Cyrus. It seemed she wasn’t the only one with an odd name. “Are you a Kalos native? I don’t think I’ve met anyone let who actually comes from this region.” Yancy knew now that she was rambling. She hoped she wasn’t taking up his time or annoying him with her chatter.

Cyrus nodded, making a small hum of acknowledgment, "I hate to disappoint," He responded, "I'm from Sinnoh," Cyrus had lived in Kalos for nearly seven years however, and by now he knew Lumiose nearly as well as he knew his hometown of Sunyshore City.

"I take it you're not from Kalos either?" From her name, and mannerisms, he had guessed already that she was as foreign to Kalos as he was, though the question had proved it.  He had noticed, of late, that a fair number of undergraduates were from other regions, a few even from Sinnoh like himself.

"Thank you. I’ll remember that as well." Yancy was glad that he didn’t seem mad about her running into him. She wasn’t sure what she’d do if someone, especially someone who looked like him, started yelling at her.

"Yes. But I am not really working towards a degree. I’d like to get one, but I don’t think it’s entirely necessary. I might not even graduate." Yancy knew she wasn’t being the most specific. She also felt she was on the verge of rambling to someone who might not care. "You’re the first grad student I met. I am Yancy."

Cyrus inclined his head slightly in acknowledgement of her thanks.  His headache was fading a little by now, the young woman having proved a surprising distraction.  His face softened slightly with the lessening ache.

Nodding his acknowledgment when Yancy finished speaking, "Cyrus," He replied, proffering his hand, "I'm surprised you haven't," He said, "Most professors here have teaching assistants."

Looking up at the man Yancy wasn’t surprised at how hard she collided with him. He was older, most likely a professor here which made Yancy a little nervous. The look on her face didn’t make her feel any better about crashing into him. What if he was horrible and would yell at her?

"Ah..um," Yancy stammered. She shook her head trying to get a hold of herself. "Yeah I’m alright. A little dazed, but I think I’ll make it. I didn’t mean to run into you. I was in a rush."

Yancy looked at his Pokemon who seemed to be in a good mood. She smiled at it.

"You’re a teacher here right?"

Cyrus shook his head, "It's fine," he said, waving away any more apologies the young woman might say, "You should drink some water.  It'll help if you're dizzy."

He paused as she spoke again, taking his hand out of his pocket to stroke the top of his houndoom's head.  

"No," He said, responding to her question, "I'm a grad student, working on my PhD," There was no hint of pride in his voice, the words were a simple statement of fact in answer to a simple question, "I assume you're undergrad?"

Yancy had just emerged from one of the school buildings that held the theater. Drama had just started and they used today to decide what they wanted to perform. Yancy didn’t really have any favorites and was all for anything. They had made a small poll and the head of the club said that she would say what it would be next time.

The idol was excited. She hadn’t done theater before. At least not in a long time. She had in high school and tried to at her old college, but it was hard getting it to fit with her schedule. Now she had more freedom to do what she wanted.

She looked at her watch and then to the darkening sky. She needed to hurry if she wanted to be back before it got too dark. She took off, not really watching where she was going and collided into someone.

"Ugh." She stumbled backwards, catching herself before she fell. "Sorry!"

Steadying himself, Cyrus turned slightly, finding that what had run into him was a young woman.  She looked too young to be a teacher, so he assumed she was a student.

"Are you ok?" He asked plainly, shoving his hands into his jacket pockets.  The young woman was a fair amount shorter than him, as well, and he was forced to look down at her as he spoke.  

He fidgeted with the keys in his pocket, feeling anxious; he wasn't partial to unexpected conversations.  Whether from discomfort, or from simply waiting too long to take something, his headache had, by now, turned into a full-blown migraine.  He flinched.

His houndoom, ignoring its master's discomfort, wagged its tail.

...is often worse than the complaints that follow.

The clock ticked on the wall behind Cyrus, and his pen scratched the surface of the paper, marking yet another red X through part of the equation before him.  They could have at least tried the problem, he thought, an scowl creeping across his face.  

Too annoyed - and with too much of a headache - by now to continue grading, he tossed his pen onto the desk and stood up.  He snapped his fingers and his houndoom - that had been snoring quietly under the desk - jumped up and followed him as he left the office.  

The office - which was, in truth, not much more than a broom closet - opened onto one of the physics labs where he helped teach.  Frowning from the headache, he pulled his keys out of his jacket pocket and locked the door to the lab.  

A few minutes later, he left the science department building, closing the glass-paneled door behind him.  Though it was starting to get dark, there were still some students milling around the quad.
