When you’re a loyal Bakubitch but also...
Todoroki.
that cuddly bus ride with shouto was just precious. thank you for doing this. - requester
You’re absolutely welcome Anon - I’m just super glad you liked it. A little note like this means so much so thanks for taking the time to stop by my inbox :)
Thanks for requesting too! I had a great time writing that request so it’s a win-win :D
Keep commenting and being kind to authors Anon ^-^
Can I have a soulmate AU with a fem reader in 1-b and Jirou? The matching tattoos au would be cool, but I'd be fine with whatever!
Gosh I am on a ROLL with these requests recently xD
Wonder how long it’ll last.
Anyway, I’m sorry if the reader wasn’t what you expected or wanted. I didn’t really have anything to go on for their personality.
Oh, rather than just doing a matching tattoos AU I did a soulmate AU where whatever you draw not only appears on your soulmate but also on you.
Welp, I hope you enjoy. I actually enjoyed writing for Jiro a lot more than I thought I would.
“Whoa! Hey, what’s that on your arm, Jirou?” Mina called, leaning over the lunch table. The aspiring hero blinked in confusion then looked at her arm, wondering what her pink-haired classmate was on about. However, rather than blank skin, her gaze landed on a line that was slowly snaking its way down her arm. It was the beginning of their lunch break and the majority of girls from 1-A were sat down at a table together in the lunch hall.
“Oh, this? Guess my soulmate’s drawing again.” She hummed, wondering what you were going to come up with this time. This was a regular occurrence. Every so often you’d find a pen and just start letting your creativity flow. Much to Jirou’s relief, you didn’t take to drawing rude gestures all over your body but instead focused your creativity into pieces of artwork.
Well, at least she assumed you were the one drawing. In reality, she had no way to check, but the skill behind the pieces was fantastic nonetheless. Given that they never appeared on one arm and only places that would be visible to the artist, she would be willing to guess that it was you.
Either that or you had a super talented friend. Either scenario was fine.
The things that appeared were what really mattered since - should it be by your hand or not - there was no way you’d have just anything inked on you. No, you had specific themes. A lot of the time, instruments appeared and the thought that perhaps you liked music warmed Jiro’s heart. She found herself wondering about you far too often when things like these cropped up.
What genres of music did you like?
What sort of personality were you?
Aside from art, did you have any other big passions?
Were you an aspiring hero or someone going after a different career?
Who were you?
The girls were all leaning over the table now, watching as the line art slowly took form. Somehow, the intimate action of watching her soulmate drawing had become a game of Pictionary from her friends but, for some reason, the hearing hero didn’t mind. They were all being awed by you, her soulmate. The small spark of pride that kindled and warmed her was enough to stop her from finding somewhere private to watch.
When the shapes of a violin and cello took form, she knew you were doing another one of your musically inspired pieces. Normally you started at your hand with smaller doodles which then expanded as you worked further up the arm until they broke out around the top with something different. Whatever you started with was your theme and base and from there you just eased into a creative flow.
Yet this time, you had started from the top of your arm and Jirou knew what that meant. You were properly going for it today, having a full composition which was pre-planned and thought out. She was in for a treat.
She really admired your talent; to be able to do what you did just over their lunch break was borderline insane. Drawing on your own body was hard - let alone time-consuming. Then again, you’d started before they’d even sat down for lunch and you obviously practiced this hobby enough. Jirou allowed herself a moment to wonder where you were. You could be on the other side of the world. Or sitting in this lunch hall. However, given that you always seemed to be doodling when people from her age group were free, she’d hazard a guess that you were a student in Japan.
Somewhere.
From the violin and cello, you’d gone on to draw some lines where sheet music could sit wafting from the bow of the string instruments. The girls cheered as the drawing continued to take form. Once you’d drawn the outline for it, you went back to work on the detail for a few moments then returned to the score music.
They were all expecting you to put some decorative notes down but instead, you did a beautiful shape in calligraphy. ‘Y o u’ appeared on the bars and a hush fell over the girls. They watched as more curves took form along the inside of Jirou’s arm, Hagakure was holding her friend’s new canvas up for the others to see.
“You’re…. What?” Yao-Momo asked aloud from opposite her friend, seeming somewhat perplexed. Even the cool-headed creator was getting interested.
Mina let out a small squeal of excitement. “Do you think they could be trying to write something to you?”
Immediately the girls started chattering and the dark-haired heroine had to stop a blush from rising to her cheeks. You hadn’t tried to do anything like this before.
You were still working on other details, now throwing a flute and harp into the background. Mina let out a frustrated cry and Jirou smiled internally. Were you deliberately not finishing the writing?
What a tease.
Wait, did that mean… Did that mean you were watching from somewhere, knowing what was going on?
Feeling her heart rate pick up slightly at the thought that perhaps her soulmate was here in close proximity, the hearing hero raised her head and tried to see if there was anyone in the lunch hall drawing on themselves or being drawn on. She couldn’t see anything.
No groups of friends looking at them for reactions nor at one of their own with a pen. Damn.
“You’re p… Ahhh, what’re they going to say?” Mina cried, leaning even farther forward over the lunch table to get a better look. Jirou’s gaze immediately shot down to her forming temporary tattoo.
Indeed the beginning of another word had appeared next to the ‘You’re’ on the beautifully curving lines of the blank sheet music. This was too much! Why had she been landed with a soulmate who was such a tease? Deciding that she couldn’t take it anymore, she plugged her earphone jack into the ground.
Immediately conversations sprung into her ears but she focused and filtered past them. If she really concentrated hard enough and you were close by… perhaps she’d be able to find you.
None of the conversations in the hall were linked to art or soulmates. Okay then, time to try going a bit further.
It was faint, but she could hear something from outside. There was a familiar voice. Kendo! She was chuckling and talking to someone, reporting on a situation from… From a little way outside the hall! Focusing as intensely as she could without looking too immersed, she blocked out the noise from the hall and tried to hear. “…figure out… significant other is in UA… Are you… confess now…?”
She couldn’t hear any response, you must’ve given a physical response of some sort.
Looking back down, she took her jack out of the floor and heard all her friends cooing and crying out about how adorable her soulmate was. You’d done it, completing the little two-word sentence on her arm. “You’re perfect.”
She couldn’t help but smile at your little compliment. How sweet of you. Unable to hide her smile, she stood and scooted out of the little booth they’d been eating at.
“Hey wait, where are you going?” Mina cried out after her as she strode away.
“Leave her,” Momo smiled, watching her close friend go and the musician made a mental note to thank her for that later.
Lunch wouldn’t be going on for much longer. She was just glad that you’d done the ‘you’re perfect’ along the inside of her arm. Not that she wasn’t proud of it but she didn’t fancy everyone asking about it, especially not when it was too hot to be wearing the school blazers.
Feeling a tickling sensation on the unmarked inside of her wrist, the teen raised it to see what was forming. “I… would… love… to… meet… you…”
How adorable. She cursed the fact that she didn’t have a pen on hand to communicate back. You’d just have to wait for her to get there. That’s if it was you with Kendo. It had to be!
If she’d been right with her quirk then you were just outside. If memory served too, there was a rather large tree there sheilding the spot from anyone in UA. It was the perfect little secluded spot. Turning the exact corner she’d visualised, she saw you in all your splendour.
You were sat down in the shade of one of the trees with your back leaning against the trunk. A set of washable tattoo pens were in the grass beside you and Kendo was stood, leaning against the tree with her usual easy smile. She’d been saying something encouraging from the sound of her voice and stopped when you appeared.
You looked up in surprise and Jirou finally recognised you! You were a student in 1-B. No wonder Kendo was here with you. You looked up and Jirou’s deep violet eyes met your pretty (colour) hues.
You… had you always been so cute?
She remembered thinking that you were kinda attractive one time when they’d done joint training with your class but she’d been so focused on trying to get through the exercise that she hadn’t really had the time to admire you.
You were so much more gorgeous than she remembered.
A blush had crept up to your cheeks. Perhaps you’d been expecting her to write back and ask more questions or arrange a meeting. If nothing else, you certainly hadn’t expected your little plan to end like this.
Kendo smiled kindly and patted your shoulder. “I’ll leave you two to it.” With that, she raised a hand and walked off. That was the big-sister figure of class 1-B for you.
“Uh, hi.” And the award for the most award greeting goes to… Kyoka Jirou! At least she’d managed a small smile in an attempt to not look so scary. After all, you were looking like a deer in the headlights.
You managed to nod a little. “H-hey.”
It was then that the heroine’s eyes landed on the items scattered around you. She’d noticed the drawing utensils at first because of their colours against the green grass. Now she noticed what they were sat upon. It was a sketchbook and, on the page, she could just about make out various compositions for the piece you’d just executed.
“Did you draw all of those for this?” She breathed.
You nodded. “Sorry if it was a bit much… I didn’t really think my doodles were actually affecting someone else until this lunch. Shiozaki knew I was going to be drawing and when she saw you all getting excited about a soulmate tattoo she phoned Kendo and well…”
Moving forward, Jirou crouched and sat down on the grass in front of you. “No, it’s really cool. I like your drawings. You’ve got a talent.”
A blush crept up your cheeks. “Thank you. That means a lot.”
“Were you planning on writing that message regardless of who was going to see it?”
You shook your head. “Not particularly. I was going to write something different. I was going to write ‘Keep Smiling’ as a sort of positivity boost for my soulmate regardless, but when they said it was you…”
Kyoka found herself grinning slightly as you whined and hid your face in your hands getting too embarrassed to finish your sentence.
“I’ve had a crush on you since we did the training together.” Your muffled voice came out. “I thought it was bad… to crush on someone when it might’ve been my fate to be with someone else.”
She blinked in surprise. Had you liked her even without the soulmate system?
“Would you have said anything even if we weren’t soulmates?” She wasn’t sure why the question came out, it just did.
“If I could gather the nerve to confess, probably…” You grumbled and Jiro felt her cheeks warm from that confession.
A smile broke out on her face again. “You’re so punk-rock.”
You blinked then laughed softly and began to pack up your things. “I wouldn’t say that, but sure.”
“You’re totally badass!” She exclaimed catching your attention again as you paused from putting your sketchbook in your bag. “Do you remember the Chinese dragon you drew that snaked up your arm that time? That was really cool! And the Day of the Dead design you did on November 2nd last year with the cool decorative skulls?”
You nodded, recalling the designs. Had she really paid that much attention to your drawings? Gosh, those would look terrible if you saw them again now. Old artwork was often cringe-worthy albeit occasionally funny. It probably looked better in memory than it would physically. Thank goodness.
“You… really liked them that much?” You asked quietly, watching as she nodded. A smile crept across your face, lighting up your features. “Then I’d be happy to draw on you every so often. It’d be cool if I could draw on someone else. I’m sure it’d look a lot better!”
Jirou grinned back and agreed that she’d love that. How lucky she’d been to meet you today! She’d definitely thank Kendo and Momo when she next saw them. As the two of you sat underneath the tree, beginning to discuss your hobbies and get to know one another, she couldn’t help but let the happiness that was brewing in her fill her being to the core. Her cheeks even began to ache slightly from the fact that she couldn’t stop smiling with you.
She couldn’t help but watch the way your eyes sparkled as you spoke about being a hero and your dreams. Art was a hobby you used for stress relief just as she used music. Both of you passionate creatives in your own areas but able to understand and enjoy the dream of the other.
She’d found her soulmate and she’d been so blessed with someone so talented and kind.
As lunch came to an end and the two of you needed to get back to your respective classrooms, Jirou quietly gave you a small kiss on the crown of your head before waving goodbye; a promise on her lips that she’d see you again soon for that tattoo.
So in the shelter of your tree, away from prying eyes, you touched the spot on your head and smiled to yourself.
What a wonderful thing that had begun to bloom in front of your eyes. And this was only the beginning.
Hallo Hallo! Ask box still open? Loved the reference 😉😁
Yep, the ask box is still open!
I’ve got quite a few requests to get through but you’re welcome to throw another one in there! 😊
Smol note
Nothin’ super important here. Just a general update for anyone who might be interested. What I’m doing etc.
Firstly, HEY HI HELLO! I’m back! Sorta. So I’ve finally dragged my inactive carcass back here to Tumblr.
I mean I haven’t been completely complacent; I’ve been reviewing the plot for Dissenter and come to the conclusion that I won’t be properly releasing it until Season 4 either finishes or gets far enough in that it’s not like WHOA HEY MAJOR SPOILERS. (Because some characters that have plot-related roles in my fic are only introduced in season 4 and they’re like... a BIG part of Season 4 so that’s fun.)
I mean, if any Manga-readers want to read the chapters that have already been finished then I’d be happy for them to have a look. I’d certainly appreciate any feedback. Betas would be greatly appreciated and I’m super relaxed about it - there’s probably like 11 months before I’m gonna be releasing it in general anyway xD
So in the meantime I’ve been working on an AU fic which I’m aiming to be a Baku x Reader. I’ll release more details on it once I’ve refined it a little more. At the moment it’s just a chaotic jumble of fluff and angst ideas tied together vaguely by a plot which needs work xD
Either way, I’m working on requests and Dissenter chapters at the moment. I’m trying my best to remain active now. I’m sort of... figuring out when I can write at the moment and when I can’t.
I may disappear again since I have mock exams starting Mon 28th. I’ll be back by the end of the week though since they finish Friday.
bus ride makes Shouto's crush sleepy so she unconsciously cuddles Shouto into the window and mumbles nonsense in her sleep (need a flustered Shouto fluff) please and thank you (bonus: Shouto's inner thoughts)
Ah I’m so glad you sent this in Anon! This was such a cute request and writing some Todo fwuff was exactly what I needed. I’m sorry it’s so late!
Oh, I slightly changed something from the request. You said for Todoroki to be next to the window… but I had a really cute idea so I was like ‘well I’m just gonna roll with this’ because my other idea wasn’t as good. This just worked out a lot better.
I hope it’s still okay.
I’m soooooo out of practice with Todoroki oml. I hope it’s still acceptable xD
Enjoy!
The training camp was coming. A bright smile formed on your face as you cheered excitedly with your classmates about the camp. There was a call for everyone to get on the coach in order to leave so the cries of excitement died down and changed to a chorus of requests to sit beside friends.
Todoroki watched as everyone disappeared into the coach and realised he hadn’t asked anyone to accompany him. Oh well, he’d find someone. He followed Sero up the mini stairs and looked for somewhere to sit. Midoriya and Iida were already sat down together as were the majority of the calmer boys. There were still spaces by a few of the girls, but he didn’t fancy stopping them from sitting by their own friends.
He was saved from the great conundrum of finding a place by a hand waving at him from a seat right at the back of the coach. You were on the right-hand side behind Uraraka and Tsuyu. It seemed you’d chosen the spot in order to remain reasonably close to your companions.
How did you always manage to see when he was struggling with something? Did you have some sort of sixth Midoriya-sense where you meddled in issues you didn’t have to? These sorts of situations were becoming more common.
“Thanks.”
“No problem,” you smiled before you lowered your voice as a certain person passed. “I’m just glad I don’t have a long journey with Mineta next to me.”
He nodded in understanding and found that he was rather glad that he’d prevented such a situation from occurring. As the remainder of their class settled down on the coach and the vehicle took off, the chatter began. The noise rose rather quickly and Iida’s calls to be respectful and follow the rules was only increasing the volume inside the coach. You’d been talking a little with Uraraka as she turned to see you through the gap between the seats.
The bi-coloured boy watched you quietly, making sure to glance away whenever you looked as though you might catch him. What else was there to look at? He watched a couple of exchanges that bounced across the bus but found there was little else to tune in to.
“Want a piece?” Your voice brought his attention back to you once more. His gaze went from your pretty eyes to the object you were holding out to him. A box of pocky. Wait, did he just think your eyes were pretty?“Uh, no thanks.”
He shook his head and you shrugged, telling him it was his loss before taking one yourself and passing the box back forward to its owner. He didn’t really fancy a sweet snack right now.
What was he thinking? Had he always thought that about you?
You’d grown quiet again. He wondered why he was finding it so hard to find something else to look at. There were so many people and lots of windows for his gaze to settle on, so why did it seem that he couldn’t take his eyes off you? Confused, he looked down at his hands for the sake of not creeping you out. When he looked back up he realised you’d pulled out your phone and plugged a pair of headphones in.
This time you caught your companion watching you. A sheepish smile formed on your lips and you removed the pocky from your mouth. “Sorry, I hope you don’t mind if I listen to music. We can chat if you want.”
Ah, you were trying to be considerate towards him again.
“It’s fine. I don’t mind. Go ahead.”
He didn’t blame you anyway. From how loud the bus was, he’d rather be listening to anything rather than the sound of voice clashing against each other. Hearing random bits and pieces of speech without being able to properly catch what the conversation was on was beginning to make his head spin.
You’d turned your head slightly to gaze peacefully out of the window. For someone who could be socially quite dense, Todoroki noticed how your body language had changed. The tension had slid out of your shoulders and you’d sunk further into the chair. It was the first time he’d seen you well and truly relax.
Since your gaze was on the window he was free to look at you without getting caught.
Hold on, why did seeing you like this make him feel warm? Had he accidentally let his left side warm up. He noticed you inch slightly closer towards it. Sitting upright like that couldn’t be all that comfortable. Some part of him was debating telling you that if you wanted to lean against him a little in order to be a bit comfier then you’d be welcome to.
But was that weird? Would you find that a bit creepy?
He inwardly sighed. What to do what to do.
“Uh, do you want one?” You’d tilted your head back slightly to look over your shoulder and up at him. It took the aspiring hero a moment to realise you were holding out an earbud in offering. Why were you offering it in the first place?
“You look as though you’re about to get a headache,” you told him blankly with a small smile. “It is pretty loud.”
Had he been making a face at the prospect of offering you a shoulder to lean against? At least you’d mistaken it from irritation at the chaotic noise of your classmates rather than an internal struggle.
“It’s fine.”
“You can say if you want something you know. I’ve got some spare water and some snacks. Just poke me, kay.”
“Sure.”
With that, you returned the earbud to its home and continued to watch the world fly by outside the window. You grinned suddenly to yourself and leaned towards the window, puffing softly until it was covered in mist.
Perplexed, he watched as you childishly began to doodle something on it. You seemed to be mentally reciting something as you did so. ’42-42-564’ was written on the window. What on earth were you up to? You giggled softly to yourself before rubbing it out. You were so silly sometimes.
All of a sudden a shiver shook your body and your head turned back to observe the air conditioning above your head. No cool air was coming through, but the coach was pretty chilly. Averting his gaze slightly, the half and half boy found himself warming up his left side which was the side closest to you.
You shifted slightly, pulling your sleeves down a little as if they’d be able to actually cover you and in the process had brushed up closer to your new personal hot water bottle. He almost couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at his features. You were trying to be casual and subtle about it.
He rolled his eyes and decided to just go for it. If you were snuggling up to him of your own accord, chances were that it’d you’d be fine if he offered himself as a pillow.
“Hey…” When you didn’t respond he mentally slapped himself. You head headphones on. Poking your shoulder, he waited for your reaction. You leaned further back just as you had before to look at him as you removed the earphone.
“Hmm?” You let out a soft hum and he had to stop himself from getting mildly flustered. As you were closer to him this time than before, your head was practically on his shoulder now.
“If it’s more comfortable, you can lean on me a bit. It’s a long trip; you’ll be stiff if you keep sitting like that.”
Your eyes widened a little in surprise. Had he crossed a boundary or read the situation wrong? What did you—
“Thanks, I’d appreciate that,” you grinned, moving slightly to rest your back against his side and placing your feet on a little ledge on the side. You’d effectively curled up into his side.
Now, Todoroki wasn’t sure what exactly he’d been expecting you to do, but it wasn’t this. He was getting internally flustered at the amount of contact you now had with him. What was a teenage boy to do? His left side was warming up again and you were softly pushing yourself against it for warmth.
He relaxed into the corner of his own seat and glanced down at the head now settled on his left shoulder. Regardless of what anyone else thought, he couldn’t complain about this new position. You looked so happy and content in your new, comfortable position. However, there was just one issue. His left arm. It was trapped underneath you in a rather awkward position.
So here were the choices. Suck it up, or move and risk you moving away from him. Hmm…
He decided on the former, allowing you to continue gazing peacefully out of the window. At some point, his gaze had moved from you to the world flowing by outside. Somehow, his cheek had ended up resting atop your head as you were now partially his pillow too.
After a while, he could feel that the rising and falling of your chest was deeper and steadier than before. Had you… had you fallen asleep on him? It was a sensation which was reasonably akin to that of when a cat or small dog falls asleep on a person. The sense of a divine blessing having been bestowed by said feline or canine followed by a pang of affection.
Affection… He closed his eyes and came to accept the fact that he was, most definitely, crushing on you. In his defence, Todoroki had known about these feelings for a while but hadn’t placed them and hadn’t been sure if that was exactly what it was. There was no denying it. He was hopelessly crushing on you and now he was stuck with your form snuggled into his side for a good long while.
So be it.
What wasn’t to love about you? At least if he was going to have a crush, then he’d had a crush on someone as special as you. It was obvious from your interactions with the others that you didn’t think the world of yourself. Maybe, just maybe, if he could work up the courage to ask if you’d be with your properly (and you actually reciprocated his feelings) then he could teach you to appreciate yourself the way he did.
He resisted the urge to shake his head for fear of disturbing you. These strange thoughts kept invading whenever you came up. Would he even be able to concentrate at the training camp knowing that he most certainly wanted to be beside you?
Only time would tell.
You were so warm and comfortable though and something about your smell was soothing. Before he knew it, he’d closed his eyes as he rested his head against yours. The training camp could wait. For now, he would be damned if he didn’t savour this precious moment with you.
Bonus!
The sounds of movement brought him back to reality and he opened his eyes. They were at a rest stop apparently. Aizawa was getting everyone off of the bus. It seemed that nobody had noticed your little moment at the back. Thank goodness. Gaze settling on you once more, he realised that you were still sleeping peacefully. Ah, those earbuds must have made it a lot easier to drift off and stay asleep.
Gently nudging your shoulder, he received a small whine and a shift in position. Your nose scrunched up a little and he had to force down the urge to smile at how adorable you looked. “(Name), everyone’s getting up.”
You grumbled a little and moved your head back a little bit, brushing your nose against the side of his neck slightly. “Five more minutes…”
His mind was instantly scrambled by your action. The feeling of your warm breath against his collarbone and neck had immediately brought a fiery blush to his cheeks.
Ah, people were beginning to stand up. Any moment now someone was going to look back and spot the two of you! However, he was saved from having to wake you up as your eyes slid open, bleary and unfocused. Rubbing them slightly, you sat up without realising the compromising position you’d just been in. He let out a sigh of relief and stood, letting you out into the aisle ahead of you.
He didn’t fail to notice the looks his classmates gave the two of you once you were outside of the bus.
Mind you, he’d deal with all of them in order to have another moment like that again.
Don’t judge my reference halfway through shhhhhh. For those who noticed it in the first place lmao.
Clifford Chapin, Bakugou’s English voice actor, tweeted out a thread of rejected takes from some of his time directing the My Hero Academia dub. I took it upon myself to edit them together.

Reserved kind reader giving bakugou the middle finger saying "My middle finger salutes you jackass" in front of the whole class after being fed up with his bull. (class acting like this is the catalyst to The End of the World!)
I’m sorry I’ve been gone for such a long time! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this, even though is eons after you sent the request in! I hope most of my readers are still using Tumblr after the purge too.
Hopefully there aren’t too many mistakes either since I didn’t go back through it properly.
A muffled groan of exhaustion left you as you trudged back towards the dorms. Today had been rough and your stomach was still throbbing from earlier. That third year seriously didn’t know how to hold back. Mirio, was it? Either way, you just wanted some nice quiet, peaceful time with your boyfriend. That wasn’t too much to ask, was it?
As everyone returned to the dorms, including Midoriya who had been released from house arrest, you had the inevitable choice of staying down in the common area with everyone for a bit or heading upstairs to your room. The amount of students who remained in the common area surprised you. They were all so social.
Deciding to remain downstairs, lest you attract unwanted worry from your classmates, you watched as Bakugou told everyone to give him their rubbish to get rid of. You saw Kirishima and the others handed over their bags of trash while Bakugou accused them of having been stashing it all up.
Despite your own foul mood brewing thanks to your exhaustion, you stood up and moved over to your firecracker. For some reason, you’d forgotten that house-arrest and garbage disposal was part of his punishment. He was supposed to be doing it for a reason.
“Hey, do you want a hand carrying all that?”
“No way, it’s my job so get lost.” He yelled, turning to head for the door.
What. The hell.
You knew he didn’t usually want help. Especially not when it came to a job he deemed he could do alone. So why was your calm exterior cracking? You tried to ignore the memories that your mind had decided to bring to the surface. All the frustrating times when you’d tried to be a good partner to him and been shut down.
You weren’t entirely sure what came over you as you raised a hand and growled out the words you were burning to say.
“My middle finger salutes you, jackass.” Middle finger raised gloriously, you watched as he glanced back, making sure he saw that your words were merely backing an action before turning on your heal and stalking off to your room.
There was utter silence in the common room as almost twenty pairs of eyes followed you until you were out of sight. Even Iida was too shocked at your sudden display to tell you off for such a gesture. The slam from your door hitting the frame on the fourth floor was loud enough that your peers downstairs heard it and it seemed to break the spell of shocked silence that had befallen them.
“So (Name) really can snap…” Midoriya murmured, pulling out his notebook on heroes to make a brief note.
Iida immediately started shouting that behaviour of that kind was unacceptable and shouldn’t be repeated in the dorms. With that, peace and tranquility in the common area came to an end.
Bakugou could only watch as chaos fell.
“The balance of the universe has been broken!”
“(Name) flipped Bakugou off! It’s the end of our time!”
Kaminari and Mina were freaking out, apparently thinking that your sudden turn in behaviour was going to spark the destruction of the world. The pink haired female launched herself at the window and started looking up at the sky as though a meteor might be up there flying towards them. Sero was joining in and beginning to help Kaminari stick together cushions from the sofa to make an emergency bunker. The rest of the class were either laughing at the chaos or groaning about how loud and rowdy they were being. Aside from the girls. They were looking more concerned than amused or exasperated.
The ash blonde turned and went to dispose of the plastic bags of junk that had been dumped on him. Sooner or later, someone was probably going to make this whole thing his problem. At least if he could escape out of the dorms to finish with this then he’d get a few moments of peace.
As he stormed his way over to the bins he felt his own anger building. The hell was your problem? He’d just told you not to do an annoying job and he was right; it was his own responsibility to deal with it. Not yours.
So why had you gotten so pissed?
You’d never sworn, made vulgar gestures or done anything even mildly offensive before. What on earth had caused you to snap? Normally you brushed off his remarks without even batting an eye. Why had you given him such a drastic reaction this time? He wasn’t so much worried as he was simply puzzled.
Nobody was allowed to tell him about what the lessons he’d missed had involved so he was clueless about the events of the day. Had something happened during class? He scoffed. If so, what were thinking taking your stress out on him?
You never did that.
Throwing the rubbish into the correct bins, he shoved his hands into his pockets and made his way back to the dorms. He paused as he glanced at the common room. Their pillow fort bunker had fully taken shape with blankets, pillows and was stashed full of snacks. Those idiots, messing around so much. Then again, he’d rather they fool around than yell at him to make amends with you.
Kirishima was backing away from pink-cheeks and frog-girl. What had they been saying to get him to stand down? He didn’t look offended or anything. Oh well. It wasn’t his problem.
“Hey Bakugou!” He stiffened at his friend’s call as the redhead spotted and approached him. “You might want to go and talk to (Name). She’s in a pretty poor mood after that little episode.”
He scoffed. “She can handle a bit of frustration. You’re making a fuss out of nothin’.” However, he still skulked past Kirishima and headed up to see his emotional partner. Even if he knew you were probably fine, checking up on you wouldn’t hurt. He wasn’t going to see you to apologise. Both of you knew he was too damn stubborn and prideful and he sure as heck wasn’t going to say sorry when he wasn’t wholly in the wrong.
Sure he could’ve been a bit nicer about it, but he hadn’t warranted such an outburst. You were both at fault here.
He knocked on your door and growled a soft “It’s me.”
The door opened and before he could react he was being pulled into a tight hug. You’d buried your head into his chest and weren’t moving and saying anything. He rolled his eyes lightly and slowly took a step forward into your room so he could close the door. You took a step back with him, without detaching yourself from him. The last thing he wanted was everyone from his class catching him like this. Even if it was with you.
At least you weren’t mad at him. He’d assumed as much but he hated to think there had been a spark of doubt in him that maybe he really had done something wrong. Girls could be such confusing beings after all.
You’d been like this before. After long days or stressful times, every now and again you’d just yank him to you and just stay there. Standing, sitting or laying down. It didn’t matter where or when, but he knew better than to try and fight you.
You were always so gentle and quiet around everyone, including him. These were one of the few circumstances where you asserted your will and forced him to go along with it, though he knew if he tried struggling that you’d let go. So he just stood there and waited for a few moments for you to collect your thoughts and words so that you say what he sensed you needed to.
“mm sorreh” sounded and he found himself smirking in amusement and the muffle noise that had come from you.
“Hey, you’re going to have to get your face out of my shirt if you wanna say anything.”
You looked up at him with a good-natured glare before it melted into a placid expression. “I said I’m sorry. I… I shouldn’t have done what I did and-”
“I shouldn’t have said it the way I did. Don’t overthink it, idiot.” He couldn’t meet your gaze. Did you seriously have to look at him with that much surprise because he was admitting a fault? Geez. Pride was one thing… but had he really given you that sort of impression of himself.
You were going to say something but he cut you off with a smirk.
“Though you sure did give everyone a scare, acting all fiery like that.” Your smile turned into a look of sheer mortification. You buried you face in your hands and whined softly that they were going to think poorly of you.
He shrugged. “Go say something to them then. You’ll just keep worrying about it otherwise and that’s annoying.”
With a nod you went to pass by him.
He followed behind at a respectable distance, knowing that clearing this up was something you’d need to do by yourself. For some reason, a small smirk was etched on his features. No matter how much he tried to deny it, he was proud that you tackled things like this with minimal fuss.
The fact that he noticed you were wearing one of his shirts only added to the warm feeling in his chest.
Even if you had nicked it without his knowledge.
He heard the chatter die down in the common room and then a single voice. He thought about how he’d felt when he’d held you and wondered if he was okay with the fact that you were always on his mind. You’d actually been plaguing his thoughts today as he’d cleaned the dorms by himself. Part of him wanted to hate it for how mushy and soft it was, but it didn’t distract him during training and he was still able to focus, so was it really such a bad thing?
You were closing your speech. Now was as good a time as ever to see if everyone was okay with it.
As he opened the door Kirishima gave him a knowing smile. Damn dumb-hair was always messing in his private life. Then again, he couldn’t argue with Kirishima about it - without his advice and pointers, he wasn’t sure if you’d still be with him. His stubbornness and inability to tell how you were feeling had nearly cost him your partnership.
Kirishima had always been the one beside him, asking him if he thought he should talk to you or telling him if doing just that was a bad idea.
That kid always had his friends’ best interests in mind.
“Hey Bakugou!” Kaminari called. “Your bad influence is rubbing off on (Name)! You should watch that attitude of yours!”
“His attitude might not’ve been the only thing rubbing off on (Name)!”
“The hell did you two just say?!”
You could only watch as Bakugou went after Sero and Kaminari, his fire immediately rekindled after his quiet moment with you before.
A small smile tugged at your lips as you watched him and thought about your relationship. Yes, neither of you were perfect and he could be a handful at times, but when push came to shove, he knew what you needed and often gave in. Be it quiet cuddles, a serious talk or just his presence and company, he was there for you when you needed him.
Just as you were for him.
… Even if he sometimes pretended like you were a pain.
Shouto's bashful crush/interest being caught shifting behind the school (after he went to give her sketchbook she dropped) into his fuzzy black furry friend that keeps him company on weekends (cat shifting quirked reader) confusion & embarrassment clouds his mind for he has told that fuzzball many secrets. confrontation? maybe. thinking about the embarrassing things she did to make him feel better? (playing with a Cheerio dropped on the floor) definitely.
Oh geezums this ended up being really long. OOPS. I’m so sorry for the wait with a bunch of requests. I’ve been trying to make more time for fic writing and somehow managed it. Then I got halfway through this one and got stuck with a specific idea I wanted to do that I just couldn’t write and it didn’t fit and ahhh xD but I’m alive. Sorta. I’m trying my best to get back into writing. Also this is super long and I’m really tired. I didn’t quite finish my final proofread so there might be a couple of mistakes in here. Please ignore them if they’re there.
Anyyyywayy I hope you enjoy. I’m finally getting back into requests so I hope more should follow soon.
Ah, this was the life. You smiled and continued to doodle in your sketchbook. This was the best time to sketch. You were in some kind of creative spree which meant that - soon enough - a creative block would kick you into an abyss where inspiration did not dare to dwell. It was fine though. Hatsume would drag you out again with her endless chatter focused around her babies.
You heard a loud bang and smiled lightly, knowing that the pink-haired girl was likely in the design studio right now. The spotlight focused on the heroes was merely blinding to you. A role like that demanded too much attention. Even less popular heroes sometimes got dragged into the light. Despite the path of the hero not suiting you, you still wanted to make yourself useful to the hero society in some way and what better way for a tinkerer to do so than to make support items and hero costumes?
As your latest creation began to take shape on the paper, you wondered if you should go and save Hatsume from forgetting to eat lunch. Again. Despite the large personality differences between the two of you, your duo managed to function reasonably well. It seemed that Hatsume was always happy to enthuse about her ‘babies’ and, since you tended to prefer to be quiet and listen, it worked out well for both parties. She was a fountain of inspiration and you were a companion.
A win-win situation.
However, it wasn’t the pink-haired inventor alone inspiring you to live up to the school’s motto. Your other big sources were the two first-year hero classes. As much as you knew Monoma would hate to hear it, class 1-A enthused your creative mind more than 1-B. It wasn’t your fault that their class just had so many heroes with such interesting quirks and personalities.
Deciding to actually move, you headed back inside to the support course workshops and found your friend with a soot-covered face and a determined grin. Of course. With a small wave, you called out for her and she immediately turned around, greeting you warmly. Ignoring her rambling about her latest failed experiment, you pulled her out of there and into the lunch hall to grab something to eat. Settling down, you noticed that lunch was already halfway through. Oh well. You’d spent it in a way you enjoyed.
You noticed a familiar group of heads nearby as you took in the large dining hall. Looking over to them, you noticed a pair of dual coloured eyes lowering back to the meal in front of the individual. He was sat at a table with the green haired boy who needed something done about his arms and the gravity girl who had the big pink boots on her outfit. Oh, and there was the guy who had the white suit like Ingenium.
You smiled as you watched the bi-coloured boy for a moment. If memory served correctly, his name was Todoroki. He’d come to you a couple of times to help with tweaks to the temperature sensors in the vest on his hero costume.
Since he’d started using his quirk for both fire and ice after the sports festival, he’d needed small adjustments to the sensitivity of the heating and cooling elements in his jacket. You’d been overjoyed when Power Loader - Maijima-sensei - had assigned you to it. Apparently you were much better at doing live work than Hatsume. On two accounts; you were less likely to cause injury and you didn’t make students uncomfortable by touching them all over to determine if they were as muscular as they seemed.
Todoroki was a pleasure to work with; he gave instructions and feedback perfectly when you needed it. Not only that, but he was patient and polite with you. Smiling to yourself, you wondered if he may need anything else again soon.
Realising that you probably looked like a loon smiling to yourself like that, you quickly shook your head and cleared it. You were just thankful that your companion was still so deep in thought about how she could improve her work that she hadn’t noticed your little daze. You shifted a little in your seat and debated on how you’d spend the evening after school.
A yawn left the bi-coloured boy as he headed back from meeting his mother. It was later than he’d thought. He kept walking and soon came to see a familiar black bundle of fluff on a bench outside a coffee shop. As he approached, he paused and noticed that the little creature wasn’t asleep but merely curled up. Raising its head, the cat unfurled itself and stretched luxuriously as a light breeze ruffled its fur.
He extended a hand in greeting and waited. Once a soft muzzle had rubbed against his fingers in a feline hello, Todoroki stroked the small one’s head and was given a quiet purr in response. His gaze followed the cat as it hopped up onto the back of the bench and then looked to be making a calculation for a jump. He remained still as the feline soared and landed on his shoulder lightly.
Todoroki could remember the first time it had tried that. It had been such an epic fail that it’d pulled a small chuckle from him before he’d softly scooped up the fuzzball and put it where it desired. For the rest of the evening the cat had seemed almost indignant, puffing up and lashing its tail slightly… at least until it was given a nice scratch behind the ears and calmed down. He began walking back towards home and heard a small, uncomfortable mew as a spot of water assaulted his nose.
The forecast hadn’t predicted rain for today. He picked up his pace and headed for home. Endeavour was away with work this weekend in another city so at least it would be quiet in the house. Having a bit of company wouldn’t hurt and his companion always seemed to like curling up on the tatami flooring. The soft rumbling of a lazy purr was rather comforting in the silence of the house. There was either that, or the black bundle of fur would bat something around the floor of his room while he worked. He’d dropped a small bit of cereal before and had gone to retrieve it only to find the cheerio halfway across the room with playful paws spurring it on.
As he settled down, the cat descended from his shoulder and began rubbing its head against his side. Smiling, he stroked their soft fur. It was soothing to some extent and he didn’t feel so bad whenever he had this friend by his side. The companionship was fine and the more he had the cat around, the more he found he enjoyed and appreciated the quiet comfort.
Sometimes animals were far better company than humans.
He sighed softly and looked down at the papers he’d taken from his backpack. Homework. Fine. After a while, he looked up and realised that a pair of eyes had been watching him. For a moment, he thought the feline’s face held an expression of concern. It must’ve been his imagination, but sometimes the bundle of fur felt almost… human.
Smiling wryly, he patted the small head as though in reassurance that everything was fine. He was alright. As the head tilted with what felt like a slight frown, he blinked and unloaded a little. It was nice to be able to talk to something and even better that they couldn’t speak back and pull him to pieces. He didn’t want to be told that all of his thoughts were wrong and that he shouldn’t be concerned with some of the situations that plagued him.
Just because he was a hero-in-training didn’t mean that the rest of the usual teenage problems didn’t apply to him at all.
It was easy to forget that everyone in their class- no their entire year… they were all still children, really.
After a while, he tilted his head back and found that your face came to mind. Why was he thinking of you now? You’d helped him out a few weeks ago with his hero costume and hadn’t minded when he’d been finicky about how finely-tuned the temperature-sensitive vest was. You’d been so happy to help with such quiet cheerfulness that he’d found that the experience rather pleasant rather than long and draining.
Even if you were just another student in another course, he recalled your name. Maybe you’d forgotten all about him, but he couldn’t get your quiet patience and positivity out of his head. Even when the vest had decided it didn’t want to adjust, you’d kept going. Your tiny smile hadn’t even wavered.
He wished that he too could face everything with such indifference to challenges.
There was a muffled bump and Todoroki found the fluff-ball had tipped itself over batting a loose pencil around on the table. When the pencil fell off, a paw reached down and tried to touch it, only for the figure to slip off the table and tumble down. He smiled and the feline face that met his seemed more bright than before. Could this cat really understand him?
“Are you trying to cheer me up?” He questioned blankly and received a small nuzzle to his outstretched hand as a response accompanied by a soft mew.
“Hey… there’s someone I like. Do you think she’d like me back?” At this, the form paused and looked up at him with big, warm eyes. After a moment, a fluffy belly was exposed to him and he fulfilled the request and earned a quiet purr. Perhaps if a feline could be so comfortable around him, so could his crush. The thought warmed him and he uttered a soft thanks to the cat, receiving a number of headbuts and purrs as a result.
A cat for a councillor. Who would’ve thought?
You smiled happily to yourself as you left the UA campus the next week. The weekend had been a nice break. Time to get back to work. Hatsume had conjured up yet another baby but this one needed some more fine tuning before it could be set loose on human beings.
As her friend, you’d helped. You were better at the tiny, extremely boring and equally frustrating adjustments that were required before any piece was fully finished. Half of Hatsume’s unfinished work was because she’d almost be done and then another amazing idea would sweep her away into a frenzy of creation. Who could blame her?
No matter how hard you worked, thoughts of a particular student plagued you. Despite your mind being flooded with different thoughts, you continued onwards. The hours of the school day ticked by and after lunch you were given a new assignment. Designing work would come first. Personal woes could wait.
After an hour and a half of sitting with no inspiration or ideas, you huffed and closed your sketchbook. Hatsume had gone into her hyper-focus mode where she went quiet and worked really hard. That inventive glow never left her face. Yet still you didn’t seem to be able to work. The temptation to gently hit your face against the table was overpowering.
Nothing. No ideas. Useless, empty brain!
Wow. Washed up as a first year… So sad.
After another half hour of fruitless struggling to come up with anything half decent, you’d had enough. With your face resting on the desk, you let out a small, frustrated huff. A mop of pink hair moved in the corner of your eyes and you felt those quirk-filled eyes staring directly at you. A blink. Another. The gaze shifted back to the item in her hands.
You couldn’t blame her for not saying anything. Not only did she have her own work, but you doubted that she’d have anything useful to say and she probably knew that too. From what you’d seen, either Hatsume didn’t understand how normal people worked or simply didn’t care to try and work with that.
You still hadn’t figured out which yet.
Sitting back up, you had a look at the now filthy page. There were tiny indents from the previous sketches that you’d erased and a couple of extremely rough sketches on paper around your workbench. Pencil met paper again, sketching lines and curves but everything was too stiff and unimaginative along with the fact that it didn’t fit your brief and just—
No. This wasn’t your day. As you picked up the eraser to get rid of your latest set of failures, you found a piece of familiar yellow headgear beside your bench. “Are all the ideas feeling terrible?”
A small nod was all you could manage with the frustration churning inside.
Your short teacher took a glance towards the clock at the back of the classroom. Half an hour to go. This designing didn’t need to be finished today but you still needed to have something to work from in the next lesson. You nervously waited to hear what solution or punishment you’d get only to receive a sigh from Power Loader.
“Why don’t you get some air from the studio? There’s only another half hour. Just don’t leave campus early.”
You nodded, knowing what he was getting at. Frustration would lead to more frustration and it would only amount to a mental block, generating more irritation. The spiral of unproductively would get worse and more self-destructive until it became unbearable. Calming down was the best option. Agreeing, you packed up your things as the headgear and ginger hair disappeared further into the classroom.
As you threw your things back into your bag, you wondered where to go. One of the windowsills in the large corridors would be good. It was raining outside and you always felt worse when the weather was bad. Perhaps it was a side effect of your quirk. Placing the sketchbook down against the wall as you would rather it didn’t get crushed in your bag, you pulled out some headphones and decided to cool off with some good music.
Your mind raced back to the previous night. You’d been enjoying your quirk as you usually did… with Todoroki. Despite what he’d said, you smiled. It was fine if he liked someone else. You allowed yourself to wonder if it could be you that he liked. Some sort of storybook cliché where he’d actually confessed to his love but didn’t know it. Nah. That couldn’t be it. Not when there were people like the ginger-haired girl with the big hands and the black-haired girl with the creation quirk in his year.
They were amazing. They were upcoming heroes. You were just someone cheering everyone on from the sidelines; a cheer which couldn’t even be heard. As much as you took pride in your skills, you knew that you’d forever be a world apart from heroes. You were fine with that. You didn’t want the popularity or fame. So you would watch as your gear assisted them and you would smile and feel that you’d at least done something worthwhile.
Even when you wondered if the students you’d helped remembered your name.
Why would they? You were just another gear-head in a support course classroom. You weren’t even outstanding like Hatsume. You smile widened and you felt the facade beginning to crack. You had nothing to complain about seeing as you wanted to melt into the background. Gosh, being a cat was so much easier. All you had to do was be cute and the world would come to you. Well, give or take the odd shady stranger that looked as though they might try and kick you.
There was always the option of confessing, but what would the point in that be? Brutal rejection happened to be well… brutal. Not exactly a desirable experience you wished to go through. So you’d continue to shove down a blush when he came into the design studio. You’d continue to feel a strange warmth in your chest when you heard about his successes in his class from other students.
You’d continue to be unable to look him in the eye as a human but do so as a cat.
Todoroki blinked as he noticed something against a windowsill in one of the corridors. A black notebook? Despite the fact that merely leaving it be would be the best and easiest option, he picked up the item and looked it over. There was something strangely familiar about the object but he couldn’t place where he’d seen it before.
It was none of his business, but he wondered if there would be a name in the front. Opening it, a scrawl of designs met his eyes. No name, but the ideas were proof enough of who it belonged to. For some reason, he couldn’t help but quickly glance through. The neat final designs that had been put together with such care and attention were beautiful. However, it was the messy rough sketches that he preferred. Namely, the personality that shone through in each and every one.
This was important to you. It was always beside you. Wherever you went, this went. It was always beside you when he saw you in the design studio, or in your hand when you wandered through the lunch hall with Hatsume.
Todoroki remembered that he’d seen you walking in the opposite direction only a few moments ago. You usually hung around in your classroom for a few moments after school finished since he’d seen you there when he’d gone to request one of the capsules on his belt be replenished after a training session.
Trying to think of which way you’d have gone if you were leaving school in that direction, he walked off. If he couldn’t find you now, he’d go back to your workbench and leave it there.
He hurried and caught sight of the back of your head turning a corner. How lucky. You exited the school from a back entrance and the bi-colored boy wondered why you’d leave this way. Oh well. Each and every one to their own, right?
He caught the door before it latched shut and found you tucking your bag behind a large bin. As he was about to call out, there was a flash. Standing before him, no taller than his shins was his black fluffy friend.
Surprise and confusion instantly rose to the surface. Wait, that was you? Or wasn’t it? Well, there were probably other black cats in the city, not just your other form, right? Why hadn’t he asked what your quirk had been when he’d been with you getting adjustments? Why hadn’t he shown more of an interest and figured this out—Wait.
He’d confessed. The realisation of everything you knew came crashing down upon him and he almost swayed. You knew everything: his mother and his father along with his scar, his frustration, his pain, his fears… everything.
You knew… everything.
A sudden feeling of vulnerability crashed into him. You had a huge wealth of knowledge on him. Blackmailing him would become child’s-play to you if you really tried.
Then something else came to mind. The cheerio— you’d played with it and always done something silly as a cat to try and get him to laugh. Even when he’d almost frozen his room solid in an emotional outburst similar to what had happened with Sero at the sports festival… you’d still sat on the table when you could have fled through the open window. You had hopped onto his lap and nuzzled your head against his hand.
All the times when you’d brought him a gift while he was doing homework sprung to mind. You’d offered him erasers or pens by batting them across the table. Other days when he was feeling a bit blue you’d move something across the table and away from him, making him chase you around the room a couple of times to get it back.
He’d never deigned to freeze you. Freezing an animal was just cruel, even if he could melt it afterwards.
Not to mention that your little bean paws happened to be so desperately soft. Damaging them with ice would be a tragedy. For both parties involved.
He fought down the urge to turn red at the realisation that you’d been present when he’d changed. Wait, you’d always either left the room quickly or gone out of sight. Had you been saving his modesty?
Coming back to his senses, he realised that his breath was crystallising in front of him and frost was creeping up his arm. There had been one night where the rain had been thrashing down outside and you’d been shivering in the cold. He’d let you curl up beside him atop the futon. When your shivering didn’t stop, he’d put his hand over you and used his quirk just enough to keep your form warm.
You wouldn’t do something with the information. You weren’t the type.
But what about how you saw him? You’d never acted differently around him. What did that mean?
Either way, you were gone for now and he was still holding your sketchbook. Glancing down at your bag, he slipped the sketchbook carefully into a position where it wouldn’t get wet if it rained nor damaged should the bins be moved. Once it was safe, he stood and left.
You couldn’t focus. Not at all. Someone had put your sketchbook back into your bag but how had they known where your bag was? Who would’ve known that the sketchbook belonged to you, anyway? There was no name in it, you remembered that whenever you thought you’d lost it.
So who had recognised your drawing and followed you outside? There wasn’t anyone who knew about your little evening adventures. Some part of you wondered what was so alarming. Your quirk was cat-shifting. No big deal.
The thing that was alarming was the fact that you had heightened senses as a cat. Which also meant a greater sense of smell. You’d caught a whiff of Todoroki on your bag before you’d shifted back and disregarded it. Until you’d noticed the notebook.
Did he know? Had he witnessed the shift or just recognised your bag? Either way you weren’t exactly happy to contemplate what you’d do with this knowledge. You weren’t sure what he’d do with it either. Oh, how had you gotten yourself into this mess?
Huffing softly, you slumped further and buried your face in your arms. Nothing was going right today. You just couldn’t focus. You’d try and then your mind would bring Todoroki up and you’d have a whole inner argument about how this was going to ruin everything but that it was also going to be fine.
“(Y/N)?”
You nearly jumped out of your skin as your name was called. “Y-yes?!” You blushed at your own flustered response and whipped your head up to see whoever it was that needed your assistance. “Todoroki. Um, how can I help you?”
You gaze hit the desk and remained there as he merely stared down at you. With a jolt, you realised that only you and Hatsume were left in the studio out of all the support students. When had the day ended?
“I just wanted to ask if you could note down for one of the capsules of disinfectant to be refilled.” You blinked. Slowly. Nothing he said was registering. “The capsules on the belt of my hero costume.”
At his clarification you nodded and tried to tell him that you’d do it, but the words died in your throat and you were left just sat there. Why wasn’t your voice working? This was the worst. Biting down on the warmth that was rising to your cheeks, you shook your head and gave a firm nod. Professionalism. You could do this!
“That’s fine. I’ll leave a note for Power Loader. It’ll be done before your next training exercise.”
“Thank you.”
He was about to leave. For some reason, you didn’t want him to go. Maybe you were ill today. There must have been a reason that you were doing so badly today. Even if you had a bad time, you never messed up in every aspect of life all at once.
“Uh, how are the adjustments in the heat sensors doing? Is the sensitivity better than before?”
He paused from turning away and politely explained that it had been better. Somehow, you managed to smile and tell him that you were glad it helped.
This was awkward. You should really let him go. Thanking him for stopping by and letting the support course know about the problem, you threw your bag over your shoulder. As you went to pick up your sketchbook from the table, you noticed Todoroki’s gaze lingering on it.
He didn’t attempt to comment on it.
You were leading the way to the door when Hatsume’s cry of alarm reached you. Well, it was more a cry of “Baby!” Either way, it functioned the same as an alarm call. You turned to see what the issue was and were met with a metallic arm shooting towards your face.
You weren’t entirely sure what happened in that moment. Instinct took over.
One moment you were staring at it and the world felt like it’d frozen. The next, you were opening your eyes a mere few inches from the floor with cold hitting your sides. Shaking your head to clear the sudden fuzziness, you looked around. Your bag was just behind you and was bigger than you were. Brilliant. Shifting right in front of him had been at the top of the things you wanted to avoid. Guess there was no running from it now. No chance of hiding this anymore.
Todoroki was looking down at you with his usual poker-faced expression. Well, that solved the mystery of who had put your sketchbook in your bag and who might have seen you shift. It took a few moments for you to realise what it meant. However, you had other things to worry about at this moment in time. Transforming back into a human being would be a good start.
Focusing on your quirk, you let the familiar image of yourself fill your mind. Your hair, eyes, form and all the little details came back and when you opened your eyes again you were seeing the world from the comforting height of a teenager. Fantastic. One issue down and probably many more to go.
You looked at Todoroki and gave him a shy shrug. For some reason, it was all you could think of to offer. There was a silent apology in that shrug but he merely rose a hand to the wall of ice and melted it.“We need to talk.” Despite being used to the lack of emotion in his voice, it had never been so harsh when he’d spoken to you as a cat. It hadn’t been quite as chilly when he’d spoken to you as a support course student.
“Yeah.” You managed out.
He turned and walked out of the classroom. You picked up your bag and followed him, head hung low. You’d blown it. Well and truly blown it. Your little times of happiness beside him as a feline were over.
You’d both left the school and turned into a small side alley just outside the school when he stopped.
He opened his mouth to speak but you knew you had to say something first. You couldn’t take this. Despite the embarrassment and shame coursing through you at being found out like this… You could do it. You’d go first.
“Before you say anything,” you took a small breath and managed to raise your gaze to meet his. Bashful, perhaps, but not weak-willed. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I didn’t mean to cause any discomfort, I just enjoyed being in your company. I should have told you or stopped—”
“You enjoyed those evenings?”
You nodded. As much as a part of you hated the attention, you would stand here. You wouldn’t back down. You weren’t a coward. It didn’t matter that you didn’t want to shine brightly and draw attention like the hero course students and Hatsume. You could still muster the courage to say what you wanted to say now.
When push came to shove, you could do it.
“I did. I’m not sure why, but I really did like being there. It was rude of me to hear about what’s going on in your family. That was personal, but I couldn’t just run away or block it out. I didn’t know what to do other than listen.” You shifted slightly, feeling more and more uncomfortable as Todoroki’s gaze remained on you. “I promise I won’t say a word about it to anyone, so don’t worry about that.”
“Why did you come back so many times. It must have been boring after a while.”
You took a moment to collect your thoughts. You’d gotten this far, so you might as well go the whole way. Why was he asking so many questions? It didn’t matter. This was it. You were ready for rejection but at least you’d have it out. You could combat this shyness if you wanted.
“I liked your company. I enjoy being around you and well, I didn’t like seeing you sad. Cheering you up is just like helping the hero course out in another way.”
Inwardly cheering at how flat you’d managed to keep your face for that small confession, you went to move past him. There was no need to get told that he didn’t want you around. You knew that he’d never stop by the bench you’d used to wait on. Those times were gone now.
“I enjoyed having you around too.”
You paused and looked back. A small spark of hope had ignited in your chest. “Would it be okay if I did it again. Just an evening every so often. It’s fine if that’d be strange now.”
“That would be nice.”
You turned fully to see him and gave him a shy smile, unable to stop the redness rising on your cheeks as a joyful warmth filled you from head to toe.
“Would it be alright if we spent an evening like that with you in your human form as well?”
Shhhhh I’m a Ghibli fan and there was a black cat in this fic.
He had two All Might onesies!
Bold of you to assume he only had two
can you write a scenario where katsuki's s/o got his hero costume by mistake so she has to wear it for the entire internship? thank you!!!! btw i love your writing so much, keep it up ^.^
It’s here. Finally. I’m sorry it took so long. I started when I was on holiday and then things got a bit manic. Sorry anon. Also thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoy my writing - I started with the hope of making people smile with some good content :)
I really hope you enjoy this anon! I aim to do my best for each and every request. Oh, and thanks for requesting! This one was super fun :)
You grinned cheekily as your beloved boyfriend refused to wish you goodbye at the station while the class was splitting up and heading off their separate ways to get to their internships. He was too stubborn and possibly too shy to do anything cute like that.
It didn’t bother you in the slightest. In fact, it gave you plenty of chances to tease him and wind him up. What could possibly be better? “Aww, don’t you care enough about your precious girlfriend to even give her a nice send-off?” You teased with a sly smirk. “Ooh, I wonder if there’ll be anyone cute at the hero office interning too!”
With a growl, he grabbed you and roughly pecked the crown of your head without warning. It was over before you’d even realised what was happening. You smirked, content with what you’d manage to wrangle out of him. He knew you were just teasing but that didn’t stop him. You’d both placed the hero costume cases down by your sides while you teased him and he pretended like he hated it. How could he hate it though? It was you and you were just annoyingly adorable sometimes.
You were about to pinch his cheek and ask if that was a blush that you could see, but your little plan was cut short when there was a final call for your train to the internship. It was the last time you were going to see him for a week so it was only natural that you’d wanted to have a little moment with him before you departed. Although there was a chance you could chat in the evenings, odds were you were going to just want to go to your room and sleep at night.
So quickly ruffling Bakugou’s hair in the irritating way that you liked, you gave him a final grin before grabbing your hero outfit and running off to catch your train. Aizawa would hang you with his scarf if you ended up being late… not to mention that the last thing you needed was to make a bad first impression.
The train ride was around two hours so you had some time to kill. Music through earphones sounded like a good idea. So you watched the world passing and thought warmly of your bomber. Best Jeanist, huh? You couldn’t wait to hear how that was going to go. You knew he was going purely because Best Jeanist had the highest hero rank of all the offices that had given him offers.
However, you had your own little suspicions about how it was going to pan out. After all, you might not have been Deku, but you did enjoy keeping up with the hero world and from time to time you caught bits and pieces to do with the various top heroes. If Bakugou made it through the week successfully, you’d be surprised. Best Jeanist was very calm and professional. Not to mention you’d seen his sidekicks in the background of some images of his hero office in a review. If Bakugou came back looking like one of them… well at least you’d get a good laugh out of it.
You, on the other hand, were going out to the coast to help out since your quirk always functioned better around water. You were going to have great fun! In fact, since the agency was so far away from home, they were even letting you stay in a nice hotel near to the hero office. You’d enjoy it - a week’s break away from the city. How wonderful!
The journey there was uneventful. The train was quiet which was lovely - no screaming, crying children was a blessing. You managed to kill the few hours with music and whatnot. Tracking down their hero office was easy and soon you were shaking hands with your mentor for the week with a determined fire in your gaze. You were going to succeed and you were going to excel. The whole point of this was to better learn of ways to apply your quirk.
As you’d expect, one of the first exercises was to go out on patrol. It seemed that your mentor not only was interested in further training your quirk but also in making sure that you fully understood and comprehended every step and part of being a proper hero. So with a grin, you headed off to quickly change into your hero outfit. You couldn’t wait to have a chance to wear it! You could remember the pretty custom made dresses some fancy women and celebrities had. None of that could compare to a custom-made hero outfit by the support company and the support classes.
However, you weren’t met with your signature colours. Instead of your familiar hero costume in the box, there was a very different but equally familiar costume. Black and orange stared back along with the two huge gauntlets. Oh boy. It clicked. This was your own doing. The train station. You stupidly hadn’t checked which box was your own. Looked like you were going to be wearing your boyfriend’s clothing for the week. Under any other circumstance, you’d have been glad to sneakily nick some of Bakugou’s clothes and tease him endlessly about it.
Unfortunately, the circumstance where you actually needed your own hero outfit wasn’t preferable.
You were certain that Bakugou was going to throttle you for not checking the numbers on the outfit cases once you returned. At least you had a week of being away to deal with it and let him cool off.
You wondered if you should tell your mentor. Then again, chances were they’d guess that it wasn’t yours as soon as they saw. They did have a good understanding of your quirk so it should’ve been obvious.
Deciding not to chance it, you showed the outfit to your mentor and explained that there’d been a mishap. You conveniently forgot to leave out that the mixup was mainly your fault for rushing and not checking. Aizawa would have your head if he found out. Despite your thoughts, your mentor merely smiled and waved it off. Mishaps happened, but you couldn’t exactly wear your civilian clothes when out doing hero work so it looked like you’d have to try your boyfriend’s clothes on.
Fine by you.
It was a tad big, but fit well and didn’t hinder your movement. So you looked in the mirror and smirked to yourself, suddenly finding yourself in a silly mood. Your smirk faded and you mimicked your boyfriend’s signature angry scowl and glare in the mirror. Oh no. You couldn’t take it and burst out laughing. It was pretty funny. You’d forgotten how much you missed his angry scowl or small pout already. That idiot. You’d definitely have to send him an image later and try and get him flustered.
You put the gauntlets on while you quickly messed about but took them off after and put them carefully back into the case. You’d whisper-screamed ‘die’ at the mirror once or twice between little bouts of laughter. They were too heavy and you preferred to use your quirk for mobility where possible. Those clunky things would just slow you down and weren’t of any use with your quirk so you gave them a miss.
It seemed that your mentor had been patient and given you a time allowance seeing as this wasn’t your costume and you’d need to be careful with it. Little did they know that you’d questioned your significant other about it previously and in great depth just to irritate him. You didn’t need to carefully go through the instruction manual when you already knew how it functioned.
The whole point of that little interrogation was so you could tease him and tell him that his outfit was doing all the work for him.
The patrol was fine. It was almost too peaceful for your liking. At the end of the day, you were raring to fight bad guys or do something constructive. You went over all the usual things that a patrol did and meant. It was nice and your mentor greeted the citizens of the small seaside town with a smile and kind words. They reciprocated his kindness and you even got an offer for free ice-creams from an elderly man in a shop window.
The town was pretty and you noted that you’d have to drag Bakugou down here sometime. Then again, he’d probably shatter the peaceful vibe with his yelling and turn a relaxing day into something else. Well, you’d see. Maybe you’d bring Shinsou and get him to brainwash Bakugou into being quiet for a day. Now wouldn’t that be funny?
As you wandered down the boardwalk on the way back to the office, you stared out at the ocean and felt a familiar warm tug. It was your quirk, calling out for the water. Soon. Maybe you’d get to do something wild pretty soon. Your quirk was hydro-kinesis and you loved it. There were so many things you could do with it, but one of your favourites was looking up comics and books with similar ideas and trying out the concepts that they offered.
As you returned, you changed out of the outfit and sighed. Nothing exciting today. Oh well, at least the hotel you were staying in was pretty luxurious. You had a plush room and a beautiful view of the small sandy bay and the rocky edges of the town. As you flopped onto the large bed, you thought about your day. Your mentor was actually a relative of the hero Backdraft whom you remembered was part of the team of heroes that stepped in during the Sludge Villain’s attack.
Geez, you were seriously turning into Midoriya. Bakugou was going to pop a vein if he ever caught wind of the full extent of your hero-nerdiness. He knew that you had a slightly larger than usual interest in the hero society and brushed it off as something to do with the fact that, like him, you were a trainee hero. Oh well. A topic for another time.
Ah, Bakugou. You retrieved your phone from the backpack that you’d thrown it in when you’d changed for hero work. You chuckled seeing the rage message come up, telling you to explain yourself and that this had better not have been another one of your deliberate pranks.
You called and wondered if he’d still be awake by now. Either asleep or training you assumed. He picked up on the third ring.
“Aww, did you miss me that much that you wanted to make up an angry excuse to hear my voice?” You purred, switching into your teasing mode. All you could hope was that he’d cooled off about the costumes.
There was a small choked cough and you knew you’d hit the nail on the head. How adorable.
“No! What the hell?! You stole my hero outfit and then pissed off to the coast! I hope you’ve got a damn good excuse for it!”
“Oh, I have the best excuse.” You grinned and received a disbelieving grunt. You paused for dramatic effect and readed your most dead-ass flat tone. “I didn’t look at the numbers and picked up the wrong case.”
There was a moment of silence and you weren’t sure what he was thinking. You got the feeling that he’d be sighing and shaking his head if you could see him. Perhaps you’d stunned him into silence. “You’re a real fucking idiot sometimes, you know that.”
Despite his words, they weren’t harsh and his tone was more amused that scathing. Phew. Time to make him eat them then. “Yeah, so I am, but I’m your ‘fucking idiot’ aren’t I?”
There was a grumbled ‘yeah and don’t forget it’ before the penny dropped at the other half of that joke and the incoherent screaming that came through the speaker moments later was precious.
You’d never get tired of teasing him.
After a couple more moments of him huffing for you to get your mind out of the gutter, he was about ready to change the subject. Oh no, he wasn’t getting out of it that easily. You’d missed him a little already and you’d be damned if you didn’t properly tease him.
“Hey, Katsu, I’ve got a serious question.”
“Oh yeah? What?”
“… How red is your face right now?”
The cursing caused you to bury your face into the pillow to stop your giggling from sounding too loud. Someone might be asleep in the room next to you. Deciding to give your angry blond companion a break, you changed the subject to his internship and received a rundown on how Best Jeanist was less than impressed about the costume mix up and that Aizawa had given him a verbal lashing over the phone when he’d asked for them to send a UA sports uniform down for him.
From what you could tell, he’d hardly been able to handle the embarrassment. Oops.
“But did you try my outfit on to see if it fit?”
“No way! Why the hell would I even try?”
“Aww~ I was just wondering if you looked as good in my costume as I look in yours.” That shut him up for a while and you could tell he wasn’t exactly sure how to come back to you.
“Of course it looks good - my outfit’s the best there is!” There was the prideful Bakugou you knew and loved. He’d have probably gloated that he’d designed it if you hadn’t already had that conversation and aggressively defended the support course and the wonderful jobs they did with adjustments and the support companies themselves for their work. He was fine to take pride in his hero work, but let the costume creators have credit where it was due. Yes, the idea had come from him, but the companies always made adjustments.
The two of you spoke mindlessly for a little longer and you laughed at Bakugou’s tale of Best Jeanist trying to get his hair to stay down. Good luck to him. Eventually, the two of you ended the call with you teasing the blond about how he still struggled with saying sappy things. However, you knew he was well aware that it was teasing and not a hint for him to change his ways if he didn’t want to. You weren’t going to be that pushy and you’d tell him flat out if he was doing something that was getting on your nerves.
So with a grin on your face, you finished getting ready for a nice rest and fell asleep with the thought of the angry teen in your mind.
What you hadn’t expected in this internship, was to be thrown into a serious situation on your second day. As soon as you’d gotten to the office, you’d noticed that everything seemed much more manic than usual. Within two minutes you’d been told to get your temporary hero outfit on and that you were going out.
You were to be briefed along the way. So you put on Katsuki’s outfit and followed a small team of sidekicks and your pro mentor out to a boat on the bay. Apparently, they’d noticed a small boat out coming towards this area. The scout had investigated and found that the ship was filled with migrant refugees trying to get away from their home which was encased in a civil war.
You weren’t surprised. It was a global problem whenever countries fell into disarray. However, the boat was too packed and the police wanted their unit to go and escort the refugees safely to the shore. Whatever happened to them after was a case for the police. Not you.
They were going to send another pro, but you’d heard that they’d been caught up with something to do with drug smuggling so here you were now, on a boat racing towards the site where the refugee boat was supposed to be. However, you couldn’t see anything from the boat when you noticed that their vessel should be within visual range.
You turned to your mentor who was also looking out and trying to spy the boat. “Can I go and try and scan for it?” They gave you a curt nod to confirm and you weren’t surprised when you were handed and earpiece and told not to engage until the rest of the team got there.
With that, you threw yourself off the boat, but before you hit the water, you summoned a large blob of it up, shaped it into wings and attached them to your back. Who said cartoons didn’t have interesting characters? Around 50% of your bodily fluids was body water so it wasn’t as though there was nothing to attach the wings to.
Taking off, you soared past the boat and used the updrafts from the waves to conserve energy. If seagulls could do it then so could you. Speeding towards the coordinates, you noticed that there was indeed something there. Little dots of darkness on the sea which was lit by the morning sun. Those dots didn’t refract the light as the water did and you could tell it was solid matter. Oh no…
You switched on the earpiece and reported what you saw. “I think the refugees are in the water. I can’t see any sign of the boat.”
Keep calm. That’s what you needed to do. You needed to keep a cool head and think and follow the instructions you were given. It was going to be at least another two minutes until you were even in range enough to use your quirk. Even then, it’d be at least another few minutes after that until you’d be able to see everything clearly enough to offer your mentor a full situation report.
This wasn’t good. You were out pretty far from the shore too. If you were working with shallower water you might have been able to move the water aside enough to lower everyone to the sea bed but out this far… You weren’t sure if your quirk was powerful enough to do that.
You kept up your pace as you flew towards the little specs in the distance and sure enough, they were the heads of the refugees. You needed to determine if they were doing alright or if any of them were halfway to drowning. If so, you might need to save a life without instruction, or with quirk communication at most.
As you approached, you realised that most of them didn’t have life vests. Seriously? This was why this was scorned upon. So many people got into trouble because of things like this. Lives were nothing and those in charge of it didn’t care about their safety, only the money they received for the service.
You quickly slowed in the centre of the vague area where the bobbing heads were and dropped down, standing atop the water with your quirk. “Don’t worry. Heroes are on their way to help you all. Please stay calm!” With that, you generated a soft current to bring those furthest away from you in closer. The others would be able to get them out and onto the boat faster if they were all slightly closer. Save getting them to swim over to the boat.
A slight frown threatened to dampen your smile as you realised that they all looked exhausted. They wouldn’t be able to stay afloat for too much longer. You looked back over to the boat and kept smiling. They weren’t going to get here fast enough. There was a muffled gurgle and you realised a child had gone under. You dove under and gently pulled them up to the surface.
Then, you took off and met the boat halfway and gently placed the child into the arms of a sidekick. “They’re all exhausted.” You murmured and the others exchanged glances.
“Keep that up. Bring some of them back to the boat ahead of time.” You gave your mentor nod as you took off, spraying up water behind you. Before you got very far you dipped a hand into the water and generated a current to push the boat forward even faster. Without any further ado, you put your energy back into working your water wings and getting back there. Picking up the pace, you could feel the wind whipping through your hair. It felt wonderful. As you approached, you threw yourself at the water and helped another two young children. One was older and you offered her your hand. You couldn’t carry them both but you could hold onto her.
You sped off again and this time the boat was much closer. The adults were doing okay. You spoke quiet encouragement to the two as you approached. Only then did you notice that one of the members on the rescue boat wasn’t a sidekick. It was a member of the press! You gave them a confident smile and the girl holding your hand smiled brightly too as a camera flashed. Then you handed your guests over to the boat and sped back. It was a tad back and fourth but you couldn’t do much else.
Now the boat was this close, it wasn’t worth another fly by so you floated down to the water and put everything you had into manipulating the current and pushing the boat forward. You had to get to them! Faster! With one final push to keep it going until the boat reached them, you sink onto the deck and huffed a little.
However, you couldn’t rest yet. Not until you had saved them all. So with a confident smile, you got back to your feet and looked ahead to the approaching figures before flinging yourself back into the water at your mentor’s command.
As the rescue boat pulled back into the harbour you let out a sigh of relief. As the police and medics took over, your mentor approached you and gave your shoulder a small pat. “You did well, but you should go and rest. We can handle the rest. Go back and be proud that you helped save lives.”
With a small thanks, you began to slip away but not before the little girl of about twelves whom you’d flown back to the boat had run over to you and thrown herself at you in a bear hug. How she’d slipped past the medics, you didn’t know. However, you smiled and gently rubbed her head.
“Go on and get warmed up. You’re probably freezing. They’ll take care of you for now.” You weren’t sure which language she spoke or if she could even understand you, but she gave you a great big grin and ran off to the others. On the way back, you stopped by the hero office and changed out of Bakugou’s hero costume and picked up the backpack which you brought with you each time. With no further delays, you retreated to your hotel room, cleaned up and sank into bed. You briefly wondered if you should talk to Bakugou but sleep went and enveloped you before you could think twice about it.
You woke up to your buzzing alarm on your phone and you deftly switched it off. No need for that annoyance. There was a message from your mentor, telling you that he was giving you the morning off after yesterday since he could tell that you slightly overdid it with your quirk, but that it was fine since it wasn’t like you were in a position where you couldn’t work.
What a softie.
You smiled and debated flopping back into bed for a few more hours. There wouldn’t be anything wrong with that. Then again, you might as well enjoy the town since you wouldn’t have a chance to unless it was now. You hadn’t exactly come here for sightseeing.
You were just finishing up getting ready to leave your room and go and hunt down some breakfast when the phone went off. It was a rather specific ringtone which told you exactly who it was. You looked at the clock and realised that this would be the narrow window where he was up but not off at his internship.
“Sorry, (Name)’s busy being an awesome hero right now, please call back later.”
“It’s not convincing if I can hear you giggling while you do it, moron.” He groaned at your stupidity and you shrugged it off, saying at least you had a sense of humour first thing in the morning and that you weren’t a grumpy sod like he was to which he obviously argued that he wasn’t.
However, he was too quiet. He had an agenda for this call - you just knew it.
“Was there something you needed, Katsu?”
“Yeah, what’re you doing on the news and why did it have to be while you’re in my hero outfit?!” He roared and you burst out laughing and switched the TV in your room on. After flicking through a couple of stations, you found that picture of you and the two kids beside a reporter who was explaining the story.
“Aww, are you jealous that I look better in it than you do?” You grinned and you could tell he was about a hair’s breadth away from snapping entirely so you calmed down your teasing and smiled lightly. “It’s fine. I’m sure people will eventually get the idea that it’s your outfit… after they stop wondering why you’re a hero who keeps cosplaying as me.”
There was some incoherent cursing to which you just smiled until it calmed down and then after a moment, there was a soft. “You’re alright though, aren’t you?”
It gave you pause. Aw, had he been worried after he’d seen it? Was that the real reason why he’d called.
“Yeah. I’m fine. I overused my quirk a little but I’m no Deku. I’m perfectly fine. I’ve got the morning off though. Sucks to be you having Best Jeanist this morning while I’m out sunbathing.” You laughed at his groan and small complaint about his mentor.
“You’d better go or you’re gonna be late for it.”
“Yeah. I’ll see you when you get back. Don’t do anything stupid.”
“Aww, is that you trying to say that you hope I’m safe?”
“No! Go drown for all I care!”
You let out a soft hum as though thinking it over. “But then you’d probably drown diving in after me, right? Cuz you know you love me!”
He let out a sigh. “… Yeah fine.” There was a pause and you could tell he was trying to figure out how to say something.
“And you looked damn good in my hero costume.” And then the line clicked dead.
And you were just left there grinning like a damn idiot… wondering how to wind him up even more about it.
Todoroki x Reader - Come Back
So, I’m moving over from @professionally-unprofessional to here since that’s a side blog and I can’t do a couple things from there. I wanna be able to engage more with everyone from here. Hey ho. It’ll keep running for a while yet but y’know.
Oh this was a request. It wasn’t from the ask box it was from somewhere else where I post my fandom stuff.
Todoroki woke with a start and, for a moment, stared at the Japanese-style room of his parent’s home blankly. He’d sat up rather abruptly and his breathing was uneven as his chest heaved as the panic began to ebb and fade away. His shuddering breaths crystallised in front of him, bringing his attention to the fact that his right side was covered in little shards of frost. He’d even broken out in a cold sweat. He didn’t want to know if he’d slightly singed half of his bed.
Taking another breath to calm himself down, he rose his hands to his face and proceeded to try and steady his breathing. It was a dream. Well, a nightmare to be more specific. It was fine now though. He knew that everything was alright; that it was all okay. Yet he still couldn’t shake the unease in the pit of his stomach that it wasn’t.
That somehow, you’d slipped away.
Again.
As he lay back down and tried to push down the unease, he felt the embers of the past rising to the surface. It was the same as when he’d fought Midoriya back in the first-year sports festival - somehow it was all coming up to the surface.
No matter how stoic or strong he was on the outside, Todoroki was still only human which meant that late night thoughts were something that happened every so often.
They’d been happening more frequently recently as well.
It was likely thanks to you.
Wow the sports-festival. That had been before he’d even lost you. You’d been an aspiring hero along with everyone else at UA. At some point over the first couple of months, the bi-coloured student had grown to be rather fond of you. You’d offered him a wonderful friendship and had been a loyal and trustworthy companion. Not to mention that slowly, he’d grown to love you more than as just a friend.
However, with Endeavour the way he was, Todoroki felt torn about if he should express how he felt. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to have to handle the reaction that was sure to come when the pro realised his ‘creation’ had a partner. No, it was because he didn’t want you to have to see or deal with it.
Despite everything, you came to understand his family situation and everything that came with it. You helped him through stressful times like the sports festival when Endeavour had shown and when he’d used his left side in the fight against Midoriya. When he hadn’t used it against Bakugou as well.
Then there’d been the strain of the Hosu incident. How Iida had been hurt in the fight against the Hero Killer. In the whirlwind of the chaos of it all… He’d momentarily stopped wondering about you. It was only when everyone got back that he realised you hadn’t been absent from just his thoughts.
At first, there was no news. There was just… nothing. It was as though you’d vanished and no one had even noticed. Well, your classmates noticed and queried your vanishing act, but there were never any answers. Only speculation
After a long period of looking into it, he finally found what the hero world was trying to cover up. The hero agency you’d been doing your internship at had been tipped off about a group which were heavily involved in the drug trade. What they’d found was far worse. The underground group weren’t just dealing drugs.
They were dealing people too.
The members who were acting as bodyguards for the dealers were strong. According to what he’d found, none of the three pros and two interns had been gifted with the types of quirks to properly handle the villains. A villain gifted with the use of smoke and gasses had supposedly knocked the party out. When the final pro had come to, the site was empty and the villains were gone.
The heroes were nowhere to be found either.
Efforts to track where any of the individuals went were nearly impossible. It was also becoming known that even people with quirks could be turned into slaves with various illegal substances sold on the black markets - things that could suppress free will or cause a quirk to vanish either entirely or for periods of time.
Todoroki sighed and stood. He didn’t want to disturb you, but he couldn’t handle this. Standing, he padded over to the sliding door but hesitated once he was there. It was strange. It was so, so strange. He usually felt so calm and collected, but whenever it was you this happened.
This panic rose up.
As he slid the door opened, it revealed your form. Instead of sleeping on the futon as he’d expected, you were sat on it. He froze up at how you were. You were curled up in a tight ball and seemed to be trembling slightly. You hadn’t heard him yet, or if you had it hadn’t registered.
“(Name)-san?” He called softly, hoping that he wouldn’t spook you.
As you turned, your eyes were wide with fear and panic and for a moment he almost felt as though the world had opened up and swallowed him. That frantic expression… He recognised it.
You were shaking and your eyes were wide and filled with so many different emotions.
You were in a bad state.
He knew that.
That didn’t matter. You meant the world to him. Nothing would change that.
So he knelt down beside you. Despite his past, he wasn’t afraid of you. He wouldn’t be. Even though he knew first hand what people who had been broken could do. So as he looked to you, his gaze was steady. However, he was unsure of himself. So unsure as to if he was doing the right thing. Was this what you needed?
Slowly, the panic settled down as you came to realise who he was and that he was not going to hurt you. He wasn’t going to give you orders or punish you. He would not harm you.
He was your friend. It was perfectly fine to trust him.
As you’d slept you’d forgotten something crucial. As those memories haunted your dreams, torturing your state, you had forgotten that it was over. You were finished with that life. You were here now and you were safe. You were not the same teenager who was thrown into servitude unwillingly. No, you were a young adult now with Todoroki and slowly, you’d reach towards a brighter future.
“Todo-kun…”
“It’s alright. You’re not going back to that place.” He murmured, slowly opening his arms. He might not have been the greatest with people. He knew this - he missed jokes, couldn’t really flirt and was certainly not a social butterfly… but things were different with you.
When it came to you, he noticed things. At that moment, he could sense that you needed something to hold onto, so he offered up a small, inviting smile and allowed you to move forward and engulf him into a hug. Somehow, you did tell him what you needed. It was never in many words. Perhaps it had been in the past, but not now.
It didn’t matter how he knew. All he knew was that you needed a rock - something solid in your life right now to attach yourself to just to hold on for a while as you readjusted back to a regular, free life.
“Thank you…”
Once you had quietened down and gotten back to sleep, Todoroki sat beside the futon for a while. You were okay. Sometimes you got a bit shaky. It was to be expected. Mental harassment and abuse like what you had likely been through was likely to take time to unravel.
Slowly, he hoped the scars would fade. The mental, emotional scars and the physical ones. He’d stand beside you for as long as you needed him. Some part of him hoped that you’d let him stay even afterwards too.
After a while, he managed to find the strength to get back up and back to bed. He woke before you did and checked on you quietly again. It was so strange. When did he get to be so worried over you? He always cared for his friends and he’d been glad he’d made it to Midoriya and Iida back in Hosu. Yet it was different for you. It wasn’t just caring about your wellbeing. It was something more which he didn’t fully understand.
After you’d vanished, he hadn’t had a crush in those three years. Not once. Somehow he always found his thoughts going back to you. Perhaps it was because you’d given him so much.
Todoroki looked up from the paperwork as his phone began buzzing. It was very late. He frowned slightly. Who on earth could be calling at such a time? The entire world was almost asleep and he was off duty.
He decided not to chance leaving just in case it was important for some reason. The young hero cursed himself for thinking of you. Every time he got a call out of the blue he silently hoped it would be someone saying they’d found you.
“Hello?”
“Todo-kun?”
He froze up. No way… There was only one person who called him that. Only one person who had ever called him that.
“(Name)-san?”
He heard a choked sob and he felt his strong exterior begin to crack.
“Where are you?”
“A pay phone. I think it’s south Yokohama.”
South Yokohama? He was almost tempted to wonder how on earth you’d wound up there. Then again, you’d been missing for almost three years now. A lot could happen in that time. He quickly jotted down what you’d said.
Everything was so critically important.
He had to get you back. He could not mess up this chance.
“Are you alright, (Name)-san? Are you hurt?”
“N-no…” You took a shuddering breath. “Well, not really. I… Yeah. I’ve got minor injuries and I’m a tad scruffy, but there’s nothing serious. I’m just exhausted.”
He knew he couldn’t reach you right then and there so he’d have to do whatever he could to ensure your safety from where he was. “Are you being pursued?”
Your breath hitched and he hated how it sounded. “I-I don’t think so.” The tremble in your voice was nearly unbearable. He didn’t want to ask it. He didn’t want to cause you pain, but he had to make sure of these things.
“Todo-kun…” You sounded so vulnerable, so scared. “Please help me get home. I didn’t know who else to call.”
You’d trusted him. Above everyone else. Above the hero offices, you could have tried to reach. He knew you wouldn’t have much if anything on you which would make reaching anyone rather difficult. Revealing what your position was could prove to be dangerous if it was to the wrong person.
“Listen (name)-san. I’m going to have to hang up to get some help for you. Is that okay?”
You paused for a moment, thinking it over before he could sense a small nod. “Alright.”
He thought over what advice to give you. He didn’t know how quickly he’d be able to track down a hero agency there and get you support. “I know you need to be careful, but you need to find a hero on patrol. It’s late so be careful while you’re about. Is that fine with you?”
“That’s fine.”
“I promise I’ll be there as soon as I can be. If you find a hero, get them to call me so I know what’s going on.”
Once you’d confirmed, he told you he needed to go to get some help for you and with a small goodbye, you terminated the line. Immediately, he was at the computer, searching for a way to get down to Yokohama as soon as possible. He wasn’t too far from Tokyo so it should only take around an hour on the train. Thank goodness. As he had a look to check for the closest train times, he picked up the phone and called Midoriya. He could only do so many things at once. While he was on his way to Yokohama, he’d need someone to look for the hero offices. On top of that, he needed to find a way to trace the call back to whichever payphone you had called from.
So around three hours later he was racing through the streets with the location of that payphone in his hand and the backing of the heroes of the city keeping an eye out for you. It didn’t take him long at all to get to the southern side of the city. His phone rang again and he pulled it out. It was Midoriya who had jumped at the chance to potentially help you and was taking care of getting updates to his close friend.
“Todo-kun…” That faint whisper caused his heart to freeze. “Thank you.”
The relief almost knocked him over. He could hear some figures talking behind you and recognised one of the voices. It was Tsuyu! She must have been doing some work out here!
“Can you hand me over to the hero that’s with you? They should be able to send me your location.”
“Sure” A few moments later he had an updated location. There weren’t too far form the payphone he was heading towards.
It took another ten minutes for him to get to you, but as he turned around to find you stood in a warm blanket surrounded by the police, he was so glad you were safe. You were right when you’d said you were a tad scruffy… You were filthy. Underneath the blanket, rags poked out. You looked worse than the average homeless person. Once you saw him, your eyes lit up and as he moved to meet you, he found your arms around him, squeezing slightly.
He paused before gently resting a hand over your head and lowering his to rest against the crown of your head. “It’s okay. You’re safe.”
“I missed you. I missed you so much.”
It surprised the rising hero. You’d missed him? Had he really meant that much to you? Then again, in your days at UA, he’d always been there for you. Through the attack at the USJ to your disappointment in the sports festival.
You were his pillar. He was yours.
The police exchanged small smiles at the scene. It was rather touching after all. However, they still needed to get whatever information they could from you.
The next few weeks of questioning and getting you back to being strong and healthy were trying and tiring. However, he stood by your side through it all. He was beside you when you gave your recount of your story and he let you gently squeeze his hand whenever you found it rather difficult to speak or face what had happened.
When you’d woken up with wide and broken eyes, haunted by the things you’d seen, he’d sat and let you cry. Hell, he’d even taken some time away from hero work to help you recover; saving people was important, but he still needed to save you. You were both aware that it would take quite a while yet no matter what happened he stayed beside you. The physical wounds had healed and most of them hadn’t scared, but the ones which had scared when you didn’t have access to a healer weren’t going to fade away so easily.
Since his own small residence was really too small to have two people, especially when one of them needed some space to recover and heal. Not to mention some space of their own to retreat back into should the need arise, he was at a loss for what to do. It was definitely not a good idea to keep you cooped up there. So he thought about the only place which would be comfortable for you and would deal with the consequences himself. His parents home. Fuyumi had suggested it when he’d briefly returned to get a few things.
She was right. It was a much better space. He would handle Endeavour. For you.
He had expected it when his father had sternly told him to stop wasting his time on you and to get back to hero work so that he wouldn’t fall behind the other aspiring pros who were now beginning to rise in popularity and crimes resolved. Soon, they’d get themselves on their hero ranks.
It was an important time.
It still wasn’t as important as saving you. Not to him.
So the argument had gone on and Shoto had indeed protected you from Enji. He didn’t care what his old man said. You were worth far more to him than his father’s opinion was.
Todoroki had hoped that it would stay that way - that it would happen when you weren’t around.
He should’ve known he wasn’t always going to be that lucky. Especially not when it became a heated topic whenever the two met.
You’d been having some breakfast with Fuyumi and Shoto when Endeavour had walked in. Seeing his son messing around at home rather than doing what he should’ve been like rising through the ranks set him off.
Again.
It led to another argument. This time you were there.
The things he said were so hurtful. He called you a waste of time and a burden. He hit home on the insecurities his son knew you were holding. It had taken everything you’d had to sit there and take it with a brave face and everything Shoto had not to start a fully-fledged fight with his own senior.
Eventually, he softly pulled you up and with a glare that could’ve frozen the room solid, he led you out. The damage had been dealt though and it caused your mental recovery to slide back by about a month’s work. He was furious. Enough was enough.
The next encounter he’d had with Endeavour had been just as intense, but unlike before he wasn’t getting lost in the heat of the moment. He wasn’t going to strongly defend you a with a fire in him which only flared up whenever someone threatened you. This time, he was icily calm. In some ways, he knew that it had stumped his father.
He was so heated when it came to you, but today was different. Today he had thought it out and was ready to do battle. If his father was going to play mind-games with you like that then there as no way he was going to stay.
So when Enji finally froze and gave his son way to speak, Todoroki’s voice was flat and cold. “Stay away from (Name). We’re here because - without you - it’s ideal for her recovery. If we leave to get away from you, then the last remaining shreds of your influence on me vanish.” And with that, he stalked past his father to return to you with the rice-balls he’d gotten from his sister.
It was the only thing he had left to hold over his father. He still needed to use the old man’s home which meant he couldn’t blatantly fight him. It didn’t matter. He’d use whatever card necessary to keep you safe. Even if it had been a blatant lie.
So when he passed his father that morning to grab you something to drink when you woke up, the two exchanged glares but no words were spoken. It was a grudging silence and soon the bi-coloured hero was sure he’d be able to move on with his life again. This time you’d be there. Until then, he could endure anything. He could endure watching his friends slip ahead of him in the world of heroes.
Because you mattered the most and from how you’d held onto him the night he’d finally found you again… He knew that he mattered just as much to you.
Oh well, I’m attempting to move over here I guess. I’ll change the names around eventually and I’ll post the stuff up here too. Update and everything that’s not a request will go up here too. I’ll put a reminder or two up.
RIP I’m a silly bean for making my BnHA a secondary blog. I had other ideas for here but BnHA sorta just took over xD
how many requests have you hoarded away?
It’s not that many? It’s a couple. I think about 5 now and one of them is almost finished. So in the grand scale of things it’s fine. I’ve been meaning to get around to them a bit more but homework, my series fanfic and my friends dragging me outside to be social have been a bit of a distraction. Also Art. I have too many hobbies and not enough time to give them all the love and attention they need >///<
I’ve also been sleeping wayyyyy too much and not doing anything useful but we don’t talk about that xD
Bakugou’s winter outfit?
Ummmmmmm….🌶🔥 Quick and fun sketch for you all. :)
