Okay I’m gonna rant about something rq and I don’t know if it’ll make sense but let me try
It is not up to you to ensure anybody’s safety on the Internet.
This isn’t saying you should actively purposefully harm them, but I notice a lot of antis saying “you’re hurting other people by posting problematic content! What if someone gets triggered by it?”
Let’s take something easily understood since a lot of people post rants and vents on the Internet. Let’s say you post a vent saying that you’re feeling upset due to some family issues. Another person sees that and is triggered by the mention of your family. Maybe you tag your post with something like “tw vent” or “tw family issues” or something similar. Who’s fault is that?
Is it your fault? No, of course not. You needed a place to vent. You got what you needed to off your chest while also receiving help you may have needed from your mutuals. Even if you hadn’t tagged your post at all, you didn’t shove it in this person’s face. You simply posted it, mostly for your group of mutuals or other people who are going through a similar thing and want to talk about it, and had no idea that this particular stranger would somehow stumble onto it.
Is it the other person’s fault? No, of course not. They can’t control their trauma or how it impacts them. They could have black listed the tag, and maybe they black listed one similar to it but this different way of tagging slipped through the cracks, but irregardless - them getting triggered is not their fault. The best course of action is to block both the person and the tag to prevent themselves from ever seeing their vents again. Choosing to attack them for either (1) not tagging their post or not doing it well enough or (2) posting it at all will make Person A more upset than they already are while simultaneously continuing to expose Person B to content that has already been noted to hurt them in some way.
This situation can be extended to sexual content or problematic content (venting and otherwise). It’s the same thing, just a few words changed.
Sometimes being triggered can’t be avoided. That’s just the risk you run with interacting with people, both online and offline. But it isn’t anybody’s fault when somebody does get triggered. There’s no point in bitching about it, that’s just the way life works. Does this make sense idk I’m sleepy and sick and grumpy
