A stunning and fitting tribute to a man who portrayed Snape. Rickman’s portrayal of Snape changed the way that I thought about him, and by the time the Deathly Hallows was released as a novel, my whole philosophy on Snape had changed. It is no coincidence that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is my favourite book. 

But we should not compress Alan Rickman to this one role. Tonight, once I’ve finished writing this, I will put on Sense and Sensibility from 1995, the first time I saw him as not a villain, and he is the sexiest thing in it (the other choice is Hugh Grant, so you know, standards). Tomorrow, I will watch ‘A Little Chaos’, as of now, the latest film he starred in (although two more are due for release). Over the weekend, I will relive the first time I saw him on screen and I will quote each of his lines. 

He has been one of my beloved actors since I could have them, and I know I will feel the same sense of tragedy when they are gone too. 

Goodbye Alan.

Not Sure I Can Fathom It...

I said earlier this week, while writing about Bowie that I wasn’t an avid fan, but I did like his music and he was legend in his own right. The same cannot be said for Alan Rickman. I found all the performances I saw him in engaging, and I’ve been a fan since I first saw him, in Robin Hood, sneering that the reason he was going to use a spoon was because ‘it’s dull you idiot, it’ll hurt more.’

Despite being real world too old to play Snape in the Harry Potter films, there was just no one else who could portray the Professor we all loved hate. I have never heard such a fantastic sneer in any actor. 

But he could also be immensely touching. Sense and Sensibility the Love, Actually were two examples where he portrayed characters that were warm and caring (even if his Love, Actually character was daft enough to cheat on his wife). 

Rickman was a man of immense ability with one hell of a voice to go with it.

So, in terms of music, I’ve never been an avid fan of Bowie. I like some of his stuff, and I’ve always admired his career. He has always been an important feature in British Music and I think his work will be consider relevant for the foreseeable future. 

I knew Lazarus had been released. It’s not unusual in the UK for artists as popular as Bowie to produce work at such an age. In fact, he could almost have been called a boy compared to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards who are still rocking out now in their 70′s, compared to Bowie, dying just days after his 69th Birthday. 

Today is the first time I’ve watched and heard Lazarus, unable to do so yesterday as it partially felt like an intrusion in the immediate aftermath of his death, despite it being made and released at his request, presumably as his goodbye. 

If I had watched it three days ago, I’d have said it was Bowie being Bowie. 

It’s not. It’s a goodbye, written by a man who knew that his life would soon be over. You kind of have to commend him for facing up to it like that. 

RIP to David Bowie.

Sergei Polunin, "Take Me to Church" by Hozier, Directed by David LaChapelle

I hadn’t heard ‘Take Me to Church’ before seeing this. There is something beautiful and tragic to Polunin and LaChapelle’s work here that moves me to my very core when put to his track, which as orginally written, I always read as a regilious song before I knew Hozier had written it about the Catholic Church.

It Tastes Like Real Food

So it is no small secret that I’ve spent the most part of this year in a state of ‘Not Very Well’, be it physically, then subsequently, mentally due to a ectopic pregnancy in July. 

As a result, I’ve not been on the ball with cooking (my weight is evidence to this, hence my return to Slimming World), 

But last night, as a post below shows, I cooked a new recipe from Slimming World Mag, I was enjoying it and I ask my husband how he likes it to which he replies dully...

‘It tastes like real food’....

He’s going to have to get used it, esp as he was the one nagging me to rejoin as the ‘Food is always really nice.’

Can’t keep a bloke happy it seems.

Make-Up Tutorial - Green and Cooper Shadow

This is Sarah. She’s a fellow Younique Presenter and she was trying to decide on her summer look. Green or Cooper?

I said why not combine the colours for this sort of look - 

Excuse the eyebrows, they are over due being reshaped - no money after Christmas and New Year. Still.... there was wine....lots of wine. 

So how did I create this striking look?

Step One - 

Apply primer. I used Younique Glorious Face and Eye Primer but Younique now has Moodstruck Minerals Eye Primer which will give you absolutely striking results as it really makes the colour pop. 

Step Two - 

Using an angled bush, apply a thin line of Younque Moodstruck Minerals Pigment Power Corrupted, then blend with a larger brush across the crease, up to the brow bone (no higher) and onto the upper portion of the lid. 

It might be worth pointing out that at this point that I use separate bushes for black and the rest of my colours just so I don’t accidental taint them.

Step Three - 

Using a clean brush, pat not brush, Famous from Moodstruck Minerals Pigment Powder all over the lid, including over the Corrupted up to the crease. Then use a crease brush to blend it. The brush a thin line under the lower lashes.

Step Four - 

Using Dignified from the Moodstruck Minerals Pigment Power, pat it over two thirds of the upper lid from the outer corner in. Do the same under the lash. Use the crease brush to blend Dignified going from the outer corner in. 

At this point, it’s important to be careful so you don’t look like you’ve been sucker punched. I personally find shades of Green difficult to work with. But this is a one off. 

Step Five - 

Use Splurge Tenacious in the inner corner of the upper and lower lid. Gently blend the Splurge to Pigment so you don’t get a harsh line between the two colours when your eye is open. 

Finish the look with Prosperous Moodstruck Precision Pencil Liner and Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+.

Day One

Rejoined Slimming World - weight - 17st 4lbs. 

I’d be upset where it not for the fact I have such a huge migraine that I could barely see the scales. I could have been 11st 4lbs for all my vision was blurred at the time. 

Have set up my account. First target is 10% off, which will be 15st 8lbs. Hopefully, I’ll have a good loss this week. 

Excuse the dazed expression, but like I said, mega migraine, but the family are off out shortly, so going for a bath, then chill in my slouchy clothes.
