hello it’s been too long! this blog has almost as many followers as my main blog which is crazy as it’s only half a year old.. we sort of neglected it for a while but we’re back w some bad news (sry) 

bees are dying quicker than ever and it’s very sad. last year in canada, 37 million honeybees were found dead by which was originally thought to be GMO corn, but was later discovered to be some rly mean pesticides. while some people are trying to save our lil friends, bee-killing pesticides are still wide spread. (more info here and here) the EU issued a recent ban on the toxic, bee-killing pesticides but the USDA has done nothing.

 it’s quite sad that a lot of people still don’t know about the bees dying off as they’re so incredibly important to the world and to our survival so spread the info and do all you can to help save them

Is there a national bee day that you know of?

there is actually a national honey bee day august 15 but not a general day for all bees so I think that we should make one. okay july 20th will be national bee day spread the word

bee hurting plants

so we talk a lot about things to plant that help bees, but did you know that some plants are actually bad or toxic for bees? -rhododendron: very pretty flower BUT the nectar is toxic to bees and it contaminates honey :( -azalea: slightly common flower but it is also toxic to bees so maybe plant some nice foxgloves instead -trumpet flower: can kill bees, plant the much better honeysuckle flower instead -oleander: can wipe out an entire hive!! avoid this rude flower (it hurts butterflies too) -bog rosemary: don’t confuse this bee hurting flower with the herb, avoid this and plant some rosemary instead

Please note that foxgloves are poisonous to humans! As are trumpet flowers. Both can actually result in death.

Foxgloves are also poisonous to horses, just to mention that too! I wanted to plant some around the farm but thankfully found that out before I did.

did not know this! alright so no foxgloves if you're going to come into contact with them, if you're looking for something similar, Penstemon varieties are good (and bees don't mind them either!)
