ORRA BYLAWS VOTE- TODAY!!
BYLAWS VOTE TODAY, Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association (ORRA) members!! Fellow Orlando-area Realtors, the proposed changes to our bylaws are substantial- and the vote that will be held following today's Realtor Expo is significant. Several proposed changes would have (in my opinion) long-lasting and detrimental effects on our association and its members. Two of those are as follows: "ARTICLE XI – OFFICERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS d. Delete old section 5, eliminating the appointed one year At‐Large Directors. e. Section 7. This section eliminates the Qualification Committee and creates a Nominating Committee who will..." **** With regard to the At-Large Directors, ORRA's bylaws currently state that "These appointments shall be used as necessary to help ensure that the composition of the Board of Directors more accurately reflects the membership". Diversity matters, ladies and gentlemen- and given ORRA's poor track record in this area, it's critically important that our president have this mechanism at his/her disposal. In the interests of fairness to all of our members, I urge you to VOTE NO on this proposed change. **** With regard to the proposed change which creates a Nominating Committee versus our current elections process, I find this offensive and an insult to our members' intelligence. Having such a committee choose "their candidate" for endorsement in each race takes us back in time to the "good ol' boys'" days of cronyism and secrecy. If adopted, this fundamental change would reserve leadership opportunities for a select few who enjoy friendships with committee members- versus the elections process we use today that determines it's winners based solely on which candidate seeking to serve gathers the most votes. In the interests of fairness to all of our members, I urge you to VOTE NO on this proposed change.
