Her red hair shines in the morning glaze,
brown eyes light up the day with a fiery blaze.
Her radiant smile greets me like a warm cup of coffee.
Her touch, soft as an angel feather caresses my soul in ways music cannot.
Her lips glides down my neck, touching places only her hands have ever been.
Her kiss, passionate like a long lost lover meets my lips with a burning fire that I cannot contain.
her head tilts like a curious cat wondering what's in my wandering mind but I have been lost for many moons, such that not even I know where I am going.

Out here we smoke the roaches! 😂😁
So others may live:
Today we saved a mans life. A youngster still in his prime. With critical injuries, we focused on the task at hand, took over his breathing, spinally immobilized him and called out a helicopter to get him to a level 1 trauma facility.
I am left with this image. A surreal picture of a passion versus reality. Our lives in Emergency Medical Services aren't normal. no job considers a stranger's blood on your arm as normal. We love less, fight more and we are constantly on alert. dating and marrying us can be challenging but please remember we are human too. This man did not leave his blood on my arm. He left a mark, a constant reminder why we do what we do. So others may live, through hell and high water.

My 2 cents
A post on my experience in a covid ward:
I arrive at work at 06:45 am on my first day off from my main job which is paramedic. I've taken time out of my off days to assist in the top level 1 trauma centre in the country in their currently understaffed covid ward. They have sourced extra nurses but it still didn't help so they outsourced paramedics willing to earn a little extra in the covid ward.
My morning starts with me getting my scrubs and then to the "donning station" where I will be put into PPE consisting of:
A surgical gown
An apron over that
2 pairs of gloves placed over each other and the outer pair will get CHANGED ALOT during my shift.
N95 mask which starts cutting your ear an hour into shift.
Visor
Hairnet/surgical cap
These items will get changed often throughout your day as you leave the ward throughout the day.
I walk to the ward and report to the nursing manager. I am allocated a room and for the next 12 hours these patients will be in my care and there lives placed into my hands. I greet all the ones awake and start doing vitals before breakfast is served. I swap gloves throughout my patient interactions and help those to the bathroom or by emptying their urinals and giving them new ones. I make sure drips are running and charting is done. I look at my watch and time has fast forwarded 3 hours. It's almost 10 and I've been on my feet the whole 3 hours. I walk to the door and "doff" my PPE. I walk out and head straight for the door. I am greeted to a crisp, cold air and my lungs finally relax as fresh air is inhaled. I pullout my vape pen and suck on it while thinking to myself "what the fuck did I get myself into!?".
I look at my phone and so badly just want to call my wife saying "I'm coming home". I breathe deep and head back to the donning station. The process is repeated and I head back to the ward. I remain on my feet and my mind sharp. It's 1:30 pm and my stomach rumbles as it finally realizes my brain is giving it some attention. I head back to the "doffing station" and get my lunch. The food falls into my stomach with a heavenly feeling of "fullness".
The next 5 hours are calming anxious covid patients, managing oxygen on others all the while still administering medications like clexane, dexamethesone and a whole bunch of words that will leave you confused.
I empty another urinal and try talk to a covid patient that can only speak french. Absolute joy.
I finish the shift sore, tired, emotionally inept to any activity currently and a body that just wants a bed.
Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Social distance. Get a vaccine. Stop and think about others before making your decisions to ignore these guidelines.
It's bad. It's a pandemic. It's uncharted territory for current medicine so please, understand that we are all trying to understand a very confusing time.
We be pumpin' through winter! 💪❤️❄️
