         Andre grinned at first, and then let his expression shift into mock indifference. “Hey. I never know whether you might meet some handsome vampire or vampiress at the dance and decide to run off with them.”

          “Hey, I don’t know how to open the portal! YOU’RE the witch here!” Zecaeru protested, hands held out defensively. She claimed she wasn’t a witch but only witches could open portals to the abyssal plains to the human world. As far as Zecaeru knew. He was well-read but he hadn’t done much reading on the human realm; that was Izroul’s interest.

          “I have no where else to go.”

          Audrey rolled her eyes yet again as she slid into the driver’s seat. “Yeah, we can be pretty weird. I’m sure not weirder than demons though.” She reached out to turn the engine on, and then again to turn her music - Never Land by Sisters of Mercy - off.

           Against better judgement, she turned the car toward the direction of her house and started driving. A part of her worried that this demon-boy was lying; that he could and would kill, and that the moment she was off her guard, he would strike. How would he kill her, anyway? She hadn’t actually read up on the different methods demons used to kill people… would he just snap her neck or something? Or would it be something more supernatural, like sucking her life energy out or something?

              She was started out of her worried thoughts by the demon-boy’s voice; he was finally answering her question. Sort of. If you coulld call that an answer.

               “Okay, well, I can’t just call you demon-boy or Crowley or something stupid like that, especially if someone sees you.” She sighed, watching the road for a moment, occasionally sneaking glances at him to make sure he hadn’t morphed into some sort of red-skinned, yellow-eyed hellbeast. “How about I call you Matthew?”

          Matthew wasn’t Zecaeru. Matthew wasn’t the forgotten fourth son, the child, the one who’d never live up to his brother. Matthew could be anyone he wanted to be.

          “Matthew,” he murmured, tasting the name on his tongue. Without being aware of it, a wide grin split his face. “Matthew! Yeah, Matthew! I like it!”

          Among all this talk of names, though, Matthew realized he hadn’t learned hers. “What about you? What do I call you?”

        Audrey was more than a little confused. Not of the situation itself, though that was crazy enough. No, it was more the fact that this demon - Matthew, apparently - seemed so excited about having a ‘human’ name. A quick glance sideways showed her that he was grinning, and he kept repeating it over and over again.

          A part of her wanted to ask why he was so happy about the name, but before she could, he had asked her what to call her.

         He had said something about names being sacred... if she gave him her name, would he be able to hurt her? No... if he could hurt her, or was going to, surely he could with or without her name. 

        “Audrey.” She kept her eyes on the road, trying to avoid looking toward him. “You can call me Audrey.” She turned down a backroad that would lead to her house without the hassle of traffic.
