I love how - regardless of everyone’s personal preference for one or the other - the general consensus in the fandom seems to be: The Warden
The Inquisitor
…
Hawke

MY HEART CANNOT HANDLE THIS
the problem with tumblr is you guys like Ophelia too much and hate Gertrude…I know being a morally pure beautiful young woman who dies at the ripe age of teenager is easier to mesh with your understanding of what womanhood should be than being an old shifty morally grey woman that no one really likes. But if you keep romanticizing this idea of ultra white ultra feminized self destruction you’re going to be trapped by gender forever because you feminize your own gender transgressions. there is no way not being a woman properly is ever going to fit into your idea of cute or aesthetic the point is that it goes against every possible prescribed way to be a woman. You’re not some wailing girl running through the forest you’re a regular girl sitting at home thinking ugly thoughts about embarrassing things. And so am I. And so is everyone else.
every time some new movement comes out about like flawed women it so quickly becomes incorporated into our idea of what it means to be a woman. like the broad city girls fleabag whatever woman who can’t get her life together is just another type of woman and the hysterical girl who gets a lobotomy is a type of woman. If you chafe against the idea of being a girl that isn’t part of being a girl it’s something that proves how fake being a girl really is. We are all like womanhood is this womanhood is that like…having some deep mystical tie to gender is not what unites us being profoundly uncomfortable with gender, struggling with it, and being punished for it is what unites us. What we have all been calling womanhood for so long is actually our failures at womanhood
You know the drill
My favorite part of this is that you can just hear the defeat in this.

Hugo Simberg, The Garden of Death, 1896.
Every time I see this I always wonder what the painter’s intended message was. It looks so pleasant, that middle skeleton looks so happy with its work.
Maybe it’s supposed to be a memento mori, but a comforting and encouraging one.
This is one of the most famous paintings in Finland. There are multiple interpretations of it but they all share the same base idea:
“According to Simberg, the flowers represent people’s souls, the skeletons are aids to Death, and the Garden of Death is a purgatory of sorts for souls waiting for entrance into heaven. This artwork invites the viewer to consider the afterlife, to take comfort in his or her own passing, and to not fear what happens after the body fails to function.”
“It depicts Simberg’s thoughts on afterlife, which is not run by angels but skeletons who take care of the heavenly garden with a gentle hand, while waiting for more “gardeners” to arrive. It is derived from the medieval belief that the dead sleep in a blooming garden.”
“In Simberg’s garden the humble Death-like figures struggle against harsh conditions; the landscape around the garden has burnt yellow, it is dry and barren. The cherished flowers grow in exotic shapes, slowly, requiring constant care. The black-clad figures love their nurslings. The garden is a place where Death is allowed to realize its feelings of affection. The Garden of Death can be seen depicting the impossibility of this love; maybe the flowers are tender and fragile because they can not handle the love of Death. Love has two faces: one of them is the face of devastation.”
