Arielle has been a decent fiancee so far. She is not unbearable like her cousin.❞ His meeting with Mimi had left him almost traumatised. He hoped to avoid her as much as he could and feared that the rest of his fiancee’s family might be as extravagant. ❝ But I share your opinion on Monaco.❞ They had nothing going on for them except their wealth. He did not know how both countries agreed on the match. ❝ I’m surprised you are not engaged already. You should enjoy it while it lasts.❞

The Thai laughed at his friend’s comment on his fiancée. ❝ I’m a man after all. ❞ The prince remained unhappy about the arrangement but he could have done so much worse than Arielle. She was not obnoxious like her cousin. Her personality suited him, and her physical appearance too. ❝ No. Unless you count my soon to be in-laws. ❞ And a secret that he could not disclose to Uriah was that Thailand would be involved in foreign mess of its own with Laos, Burma, Cambodia and Malaysia at some point in the future.

He started walking towards the little restaurant he wanted to bring his friend to. ❝ Have you ? ❞ He returned the question.

When she’d first found out about the arrangement, she’d wanted to tell the Thai Prince (and had told Arielle) just how useless he was to her. And to do it loudly…But after a little time, several bottles of wine, and some coaxing from their other cousins, she’d decided that it simply wasn’t worth the trouble. He was only useless, not dangerous. Why waste matches burning bridges to nowhere? Especially when one was such a heavy smoker.

So she pasted on a politicians smile, and went through the motions of politeness. She had a maid come to take his jacket, and another to take his drink order. “Are you much of a wine drinker? I hope so. Our whole family is interested in viticulture.” Which was a nice way of saying they were drunks. “And of course they’re very interested in you!” They weren’t. Mimi didn’t even think her father was aware of his niece’s engagement…In fact, he might not even be aware of his niece’s existence. He was awful. “I’m sure you know that Arielle made this arrangement of her own volition. It came as quite a surprise to us all.” @prxncechai

Chai cringed as Mimi called him “darling”, then he almost went into shock when she had the audacity to air kiss him instead of shaking his hand. The Thai prince was not used to such familiarity and intimacy. In his family, they kept the demonstration of affection to the minimum and commoners and Thai nobles alike did not dare to touch a member of the royal family. So he was greatly startled by the simple greeting which was the norm in French culture. He took a couple steps back but avoided to push the princess. It took him several seconds to regain his composure and wipe the stupefaction and disgust from his face.

❝ Thank you for welcoming me in your home. ❞ The forced courtesy left his lips as he entered the blonde’s villa. If like him, she was not enchanted by the meeting, she did not show it. He supposed that she was better trained than him. ❝ I prefer beer or liquor. ❞ Thailand only produced wine for less than thirty years. Wine was growing in popularity but still not a common alcohol. Chai was used to drink Thai whisky. ❝ If you are, I can arrange for you to visit the Château de Loei or GranMonte vineyards. ❞ They were the most prestigious of the country and the ones to have some international recognition.

❝ They should be, due to the engagement. ❞ Who would not want to know everything about someone who was to be part of their family ? Chai had done some research himself. He had not particularly liked what he had found about Mimi, including her recent prison stay in Russia. ❝ She is a smart woman. It is better to arrange your marriage yourself than have it forced on you. ❞ Chai knew that a betrothal would come after his military service. Yet he had not wished to involve himself in the process. It was partially a denial on his part.

There are countless members of the Thai royal family due to former polygamous tradition. Even if there are dozens or princes and princess, they are considered cadet branches and have no chance of ascending to the throne. The reigning branch consist of six people, the current king, his wife and his four children.

The slap on the back surprised Chai who was not used to being touched. The Thai royal family used to be sacred and it was only after a tragic accident a little over century ago that people were permitted to touch them. Still it was not customary. ❝ Well, if you want them, they are all yours. ❞ He returned the warm smile. ❝ But be ready to see middle aged women trying to blend in by wearing traditional costumes.❞ It was uncomfortable to watch. Half of those women were genuine so he guessed that he could give them a pass but the other half just found the Pha sin exotic.

The Prince chuckled at the mention of yoga classes. ❝ I don’t mind blondes in leggings. ❞ He was a man at the end of the day and half of them were attractive. ❝ But I’ve seen enough of them. ❞ It was getting old. ❝ Let’s go some place those women would have food poisoning. ❞ Thankfully both Uriah and Chai’s stomachs could handle street food.

Chai’s eyes roamed around the office. He had had to cross so many rooms to reach Arielle. He would never have found her without her staff’s assistance. Her villa was vast enough for a family but she lived there alone. It was too much for him but fortunately he did not have to live there with her yet. ❝ I don’t think I could do more than twice a week. ❞ Nor did he really want to. Between his obligations as a fleet commander, as a prince and as a host, he had little free time. Seeing his fiancee felt like another chore. However if he did not make an effort, it would stay that way. It was best that they get acquainted to feel more comfortable with the situation. ❝ We’re both busy. ❞ She also had her obligations and probably not a burning desire to spend time with him.

❝ I’ll take the coffee. Thank you. ❞ He sat on the nearest available chair as she instructed him to make himself comfortable. ❝ Or tea if you have some. ❞ He actually preferred the latter.

Phuket accommodation, Phuket naval base

No flex at all. Chai is actually staying at the Phuket naval base at Cape Panwa.......

He is the most eminent guest of the Commander of the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command. Which is a fancy way of saying they kicked the vice-admiral out of his quarters to gave them to the prince for the duration of his stay in Phuket.

Chai is used to live on a base and he could not withstand establishing residency even temporarily at a fancy villa made for tourists. He is more than delighted to be able to use the commander suite at Cape Panwa.
