the art of dueling | f&alastor
» a. moody
He knew the boy was a good duelist, but he also knew that good was no longer enough. Alastor would always recognize the effort to become better, when it came to matter of life and death one should always strive to be the best one could be. Training should really become a mandatory thing.
It took Alastor a bit to understand the young man’s expression. Was he really worried about what Alastor was going to think? He must know by now that would be the last thing Alastor would do upon finding someone trying to make sure their skills would allow them to survive this war. “You only fail if you don’t learn anything” Alastor said, he sort of believed that, but for the sake of Fabian he spoke those words with conviction. “What have you learned from your attempts?” he made a note of not calling it failures. Sure Alastor might had been thrown into being head of the auror department, but he had stepped up to the role of mentor with ease.
He had heard the empty stomach line many times before, it somehow made him think of family. “It could be” Alastor said with a small smile, he guessed Fabian could’ve benefited from a few jokes, but maybe it would be best if they got to work. “Are you trying to anticipate the dummies moves?” he asked stepping into the room, Fabian had not asked for his help but Alastor was going to offer it anyways.
The Dueling club in Hogwarts had always been one of Fabian’s strongest after-class disciplines. He was sure to learn how to fight properly, because he knew every living soul needed to know how to protect themselves. Alastor Moody, while bold at least sounded friendly and willing to help, and for this he was glad. The Prewett twin didn’t specialize in fighting, after all.
“That’s true, believe me sir, I know that.“ Fabian nodded in agreement. Learning languages was not an easy thing and failure came aong the pat far too often. It was the same with everything — dueling, fighting, cooking, writing, living. The only difference was how fatal that failure would be. It could have resulted to a bump on the knee, a burned finger or death. That’s why he had to make sure failure in dueling was kept to the minimum. “That I am slow as heck.“ Fabian scoffed, confused expressions overtaking his face. “I’m either too fast and inaccurate, or accurate and too slow. I am just out of form.“
Fabian hummed, considering the question. “Yes, that’s what you are supposed to do in dueling, is it not? I try to but I fail.“ He shrugged, emerald eyes averting to a nearby dummy, whose inanimate head was staring back at Fabian. He shook his own head, looking back at Alastor. “Any tips?“
Bonds | Fabian + Cassandra
c. burke
Cassandra really didn’t feel like giving in to a variety of consolation coming from him, if anything. She wouldn’t tell him her whole life story, especially those she’d already chose to be secret, for everyone, even for Isabella. Some secrets were worth mentioning, but shouldn’t considering the entirety of her evil deeds. Even if she looked at him with clear eyes, a slight smile on her lips and a general open response to his presence, Cassandra didn’t feel like open up, or even attempt to completely reveal herself to the stranger. Maybe he would, and with that even distract her just a little bit.
“I’d love to. I rarely get to invite others since they’re all wealthy themselves,” which wasn’t a lie considering most Death Eaters owned businesses, fortunes and a long history worth of fame and fortune, all in their own rights. But, as she looked at the stranger, all she could truly think of was the unknown, the fear of what to come – she could see it in his eyes and this very feeling frightened even her. “I don’t know – I just want to have a nice drink, distract myself from all those horrible things I’ve ever done in the name of my family and in the name of love, and hopefully, move on after tonight. We can all just hope for the best, right, Fabian? We have to – there are still people who believe in us and we’d be foolish not to try and get up again. I want to, so, I guess I want to be stronger again – after a series of downfalls.”
As she ordered a few drinks and snacks for both of them, Cassandra already felt the waiter’s eyes piercing her, staring at her like he’d seen a ghost. A face worthy of the name – bestowed with infamy since day one – but she really didn’t care. “Oh and I’d like for this place to be cleared within the next ten minutes, alright? I’ll pay their meals. as long as they just leave. I want to be alone with my new friend,” she smirked at Fabian.
Wealthy.
That made him feel sick to the stomach, because the only wealthy people he knew were Pureblooded jackass supremacists. That of course still didn’t mean anything for the woman against him, though the intimidation of her presence was surely a thing. “All the horrible things? That sounds harsh.“ After those words his suspicions only increased, as he tried to fit in his chair better. Fabian rose a brow, slapping on a tired smile, but then she said love, and he wanted to completely forget about everything. “Downfalls are inevitable, but at least you try to get up. That’s the most important thing.“ And he meant those words, a person grew after his failures and yet the ginger couldn’t fully get up from his own.
Her request melt him actually feel comfortable. Having a place on their own would make him feel calmed than dozens of eyes being able to pin on them and trace their conversation down. It just made everything easier for the introverted Fabian, who usually never had such encounters. However, it also sounded a bit scary, but he wasn’t going to overthink that as well.
“A new friend, I actually quite like the sound of that.“ Fabian smirked, as the waiter drew back and started doing what was kind of ordered to him almost immediately. Now that was impressive. This night was for peculiar connections and not for anxiety, and he would make sure he would at least have some fun while getting to know his new friend. “So, let’s start talking, huh?“
effervescent | f&andromeda
» a. tonks
“It seemed that way to me, at least,” Andromeda said with a smile, eyes falling on her daughter. That day had been such a blur so she supposed she could be remembering incorrectly but she would be willing to bet that she was right. Dora was immensely talented. “We’re not entirely sure how it’ll work in the future but hopefully we can handle that too.” They didn’t worry about it much anyway; worrying would change anything and they had enough to worry about as it was, without borrowing trouble.
“I’ve had those sort of encounters lately too,” she murmured, trying not to think of her sister or the many reminders of her old life that had sprung into her new one. She wanted to press for more concrete answers but thought it might backfire on her. Of all people, Andromeda knew what it meant to be private and careful about sharing your worries - it would be hypocritical of her to expect Fabian to confide in her when she didn’t know if she would do the same were the situation reversed. Maybe she could send Ted by to check on him someday soon. Fabian might talk to Ted about his problems rather than Andromeda. “I suppose we all have cause to be anxious now. It’s all right to ask for help - god knows I ask Ted often enough.” Her eyes rested on him for a moment before she pulled them away to give him a little space.
“Oh Dora would love that.” Andromeda barely had time to speak before Dora let out a squeal of excitement and added her enthusiastic agreement to the conversation. She didn’t have enough friends her own age - there were the Muggle children from the park, but it wasn’t the same as having friends from the wizarding world her own age. Dora wasn’t even at the park regularly enough to develop any true friendships there. “I hope you realize that we have no choice in the matter now. She won’t take no for an answer.”
“Just imagine waking up and seeing a half duck in your child’s bed. That would be exciting and scary at the same time.“ he laughed at his own joke, before widening his eyes. “Or even better, an elephant. Who knows, I’ve heard some Metamorphmagi turn into full animals, like the animagi. Just that the former are more advanced.“ It was truly a gift, to think that from something consider treachery, mixed blood, came out something so unique and talented. Nymphadora was a proof that muggles weren’t quite tainting the wizarding blood after all.
Fabian was sure Andromeda had it tougher, at least if she referred to any of her family. That wretched and disgusting house of Black surely knew how to instill fear, and while Sirius didn’t give a flying fuck, he wasn’t sure how hard it was fro Andy to do the same. Fabian, however, did not want to indulge, the ginger knew better. Perhaps it was even easier for the girl to let go, but it was also unpleasant for her to meet her relatives. He couldn’t possibly know, leaving his family was something he wouldn’t even do for his life. “Your husband is truly a blessing,“ he grinned, but the Prewett heart of his spoke right after. “But if you need to let something off your chest I am always here too.“
A genuine laugh escaped Fabian’s lips, the excitement of the little child engraving such in Fabian’s own body. “Well let’s go then! I bet they are waiting and are super bored otherwise.“ He brought his body down, looking at the little girl and extending his hand out to both his friends. “We can apparate and be there in a heartbeat!“

Slender fingers curled tightly around the glass, knuckles white as he peered into the amber liquid. There was a nagging on the edges of his thoughts, some maybe or perhaps suggesting a resemblance, a familiarity of which he was hardly aware. There was a scoff and scorn; drinking your mistakes into submission. Typical. For a moment - only a moment - Sirius caught sight of his reflection in the liquor, and for a moment - only a moment - they were not his eyes staring back. Instead, he recognized the cold, harsh glare of Orion.
Sirius brought the glass to cracked lips and tilted back his head with another swig, another burn.
Typical.
A voice reached Sirius’ ears, green eyes inadvertently met his, and Sirius allowed himself another sip. Of course. Of course, the very person that had been flitting in and out of his thoughts all day, uninvited, was the one he would happen to run into. Bloody brilliant. The man looked like hell. Sirius was aware of what had happened to a lot of Order members; he knew that James, and several others, had been tortured, made to live terrible experiences and witness atrocities that would never leave them. He eyed Fabian only briefly.
Sirius breathed a sigh, shifting when Fabian sat next to him, wry smile tugging at his mouth. “You look like shite yourself,” he quipped, focus returning to the pint before him. Shoulders brushed, and his stomach lurched. Memories of the kitchen, bathed in sunlight and dancing dust, of freckles splayed over pale skin like the constellations he knew so well, of lips against his - impossibly sweet and wholly consuming - saturated his mind. Another drink would silence them, and the glass was once more tipped back, emptying its contents.
He signaled to the barkeep for another. But, for the moment, he had no way to busy his mouth, his mind. For the moment, he had to face the man beside him. Sirius huffed and leaned forward, arms crossed, elbows resting on the wooden table. “Bit early to be drinking, don’t you think, Prewett?” he asked, brow raised, not quite meeting his eyes. He was a damn hypocrite and he knew it, but at least he didn’t pretend otherwise. “Terrible habit to get into, y'know.”
But he understood. They needed it. They all needed it. The world was going to shit, so why shouldn’t they be allowed to get piss drunk before two in the afternoon? Sirius gave a half-hearted grin and a small shrug. “Not that it matters, really. Fuck the establishment, right?”
Fabian could notice the confusion on Sirius’s face and he didn’t blame him for it. Although it wasn’t really the ginger who had caused this all, he couldn’t say it was all entirely Sirius’s fault. Prewett had truly... engaged in it, and he wanted it, but knew it could never happen so he shrugged it away and had it tucked underneath blankets of everything — work, family, thoughts of his nightmares, concern, guilt.
“Why thank you, how lovely,“ Fabian imitated a happy voice, but he almost let out a grunt, because now was not quite the time for jokes of this caliber. Sirius was always a mystery to him, one that he never wanted to crack, because he didn’t force things out of people’s minds. He was not this type of person, he normally allowed his friends to speak for themselves and not pull their words out of their mouths with hooks. The thought of his lips once again clouded Fabian’s mind, a gentle shake of his head attempting to drain them out. Ginger locks danced on top of his head, imitating the movements.
“I think drinking is allowed at any time right now,“ he pushed his lips together and drew them back before he took a sip from his water. Fabian’s mouth was dry, and he much more preferred wetting it with water than alcohol. The rebellious boy next to him didn’t even want to make an eye contact with him, but Fabian wasn’t here to talk about the events that had happened in a dusty kitchen. He wasn’t here for Sirius, even. For the first time he was here for himself, and perhaps answers would come with the course of their little encounter.
“Fuck everything.“ he simply replied, now taking a sip from his alcoholic drink, letting the burn settle in neatly in the pit of his stomach that was now its home. The burn that those drinks gave to Fabian never reminded him of the one he had experienced on his wrist. This burn pained more than the physical fire, because it killed away the sorrow, slowly, like a dull knife killing living flesh. Painfully, slowly, messy.
“Seems like you have a lot on your mind, but let’s talk eh?“ Fabian tried to smile, but usual to the last few days he did not succeed. “I don’t know, about music maybe.“ Or about how I’ve been thinking about you.

She couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh when he told her that he had felt better, mainly because she was feeling relieved herself that he was alive. She had been scared many times in her life, but never like that before. She had been terrified that he wasn’t going to wake up and even more terrified when she believed she might have caused him to worsen. She let out a breath she hadn’t known she was holding in, “I’m glad to hear it” she said, softly, shaking her head, her blonde curls dancing around her shoulders.
She helped him slightly as he pushed up into a sitting position, not wanting to keep him lying down if he did not want to be there. She leaned over and placed her hand on his cheek and rubbed her thumb over it for a moment, before pulling away. She wasn’t much good at comfort, but she had picked up a few things from her mother. “You’re welcome, though there is really no reason to thank me. I wasn’t going to leave you” she said, shrugging and shaking her head. “It’s not your fault that you were ill, no apologies” she said, sternly, but with a twinkle in her eye and a smile gracing her lips.
“Tequila?” she joked, before biting her lips, “sorry, bad joke. Mmm, yes, I have some water back here. Tap water, if that’s okay?”
Quite frankly, he just wanted to go home.
The embarrassment of him falling unconscious on the floor was already making him feel rather uncomfortable. Plus, he was being an annoyance right now, someone that had caused too much trouble in a rather calm day. Fabian’s heart rate was better now, and he could feel his temperature getting back to normal. The ginger color of his hair was still odd, but at least the warmth in his eyes had returned.
It sometimes baffled him how people could be so sweet and innocent. Fabian wasn’t even sure what others thought of him, but he also didn’t want to truly know. He at least was kind, but in a situation like this, once his “patient“ opened his eyes he would allow himself to submerge into panic, and that was never really good. “I’m not ill,“ he stubbornly said. “Just exhausted, I’ve heard those... blackouts or whatever happen when you haven’t had sleep for three days.“ He tried to smile faintly, but didn’t quite succeed.
“Actually, tequila sounds too nice.“ Unfortunately, he wasn’t joking. “If you have salt to pair it with, that’s even better, I need a reboot.“ This time, Fabian grinned successfully, while also his breathing had improved. “Yeah, water works as well. But only one glass, I have to get going soon.“

“My god, I am growing impatient, boy.” Silence was virtuous but irritation egged him on and he had never been the most patient of men. Blue eyes watched through silver slits as Fabian Prewett took his sweet time in sauntering to the woman strapped to metal, her plush body warm and milky beneath bright spotlights. Tears leaked from her open eyes and she struggled against tight bindings with soft, pathetic whimpers echoing from her lips. A carefully shined shoe tapped against linoleum tiles, click, click, clicking in a crisp echo that bounced off cold walls.
All at once, Fabian Prewett found the lion that lived inside of him as he turned on his heel and chucked the tiny vial at breakneck speed directly towards Red. He watched, bemused, and felt as the glass bounced off his mask with a quiet ding before shattering against the floor. The thick, purple substance blossomed and instantly bubbled, disintegrating the white tile at his feet. Red clicked his tongue in annoyance and glanced back towards the redhead.
“Hope you’re having fun. Shame, that would’ve been the thing to kill her fastest,” he mused. “Guess we’ll be taking the slower route. But get a fucking move on, kid. I ain’t got all night.” A gloved hand rose in a cupped position and somehow, defying all rules of time and space, he sent waves of magic through the air between them, forcing Fabian to turn back around to face his sister and the small table of destruction. But he wanted the choice to be his, so he let up, a smile stretching across his lips hidden by his mask as he waited for Fabian to get the show on the road. “What’ll it be, son? Chop off those perky little tits’ve hers? Remove her stomach whole? Take a razor to her jugular? I’m real intrigued. Don’t keep me waiting or you’ll both regret it.”
Of course he had missed.
His body didn’t listen to him now and as it turned to his sister he was already feeling helpless. Fabian usually fought until the end and then allowed himself to collapse, but now he could sense himself falling apart in the middle of the act. The purple potion that was now dissolving the ground reached his ears, and the substance remained in his mind. And to think this monster wanted to use that on his sister, one of the people he cared about the most — it sickened him.
Alice’s eyes were filled with fear, pain, pinned in his own emerald hues. The scent of filth and metal was filling the air while the monsters’ eyes were glued on his back watching and forcing his every mood. A tiny little nudge in his head told him get out the stomach, boy, but he knew it wasn’t him, it can’t be him, he wasn’t going to hurt his sister.
But hands didn’t listen and grabbed a scalpel abruptly, the sharp tool shaking and trembling with uncertainty. Silence was striking the little room or whatever it was, but three seconds later and the sharp object was already splitting skin in two, going back and forth. His sister’s whispers turned into screams, her pupils widened and her eyes were ready to pop out, as blood tickled down her chest while he was cutting for the heart, actions that he could not stop. Fabian wasn’t sure what caused him the most pain — the mutilation he was doing to his sister, the fact that he couldn’t even fight back or the truth that he was scared and weak right now.
Rather soon than late, he had cut too much meat to reveal the heart pumping in his sister’s rib cage, bloods on the scalpel, his hands and her body. He noticed how it began beating faster and faster and faster, until it stopped— and Alice closed her eyes in pain. Fabian still couldn’t turn on his heels, couldn’t run away or better, kill himself. He just couldn’t because he couldn’t control himself.
“You monster... you...“ he couldn’t continue, so he just stopped, tears rolling down his eyes in disbelief.
{ nightmare } james + fabian
» j. potter
He’s not really sure what he’d been expecting. An owl back, maybe, but saying what? That everything was fine? That Fabian was doing fine and the terrors had been forgotten and thank you for checking in?
It all would have been a lie, had that been what the red head had written, and James knows that now, just as much as he would have known it had that been the letter that had come.
And had he known, then, that maybe all he would have gotten was a letter of lies? Had he hoped that would make him feel better? Think himself a better person for checking in on a friend who could stand to be a better one, and make James feel like he’d done the right thing long enough to choose to believe what he knew not to be the truth—that Fabian was fine. He was sleeping fine. He was feeling fine.
Lies, lies, lies. All of them ugly and raw and too close to home not to hurt.
But Fabian didn’t like. And he didn’t owl. He showed up, and James was… oddly nervous, somehow. Rattled, but somehow eager, also.
He opens the door of his small bachelor’s, swinging it wide for the Prewett twin to step in from the cold.
“Hey… I—I wasn’t expecting you. I mean—I’m glad you came. You…” He’s going to ask ‘you alright?’ until he realizes that’s the last thing he should be asking right now, because he knows the answer. “You want anything? I can put some tea on, if you like.”
He heard his footsteps and something curled up in his stomach.
The door opened and James Potter’s face greeted him. Fabian didn’t really react. He didn’t smile, he didn’t frown, his expressions were straight. Neutral, almost colorless, but he was there and Merlin help him, he was ready to hear James out.
Fabian stepped in rather confidently, ready to take off his cold jacket, only to reveal a cold body wanting warmth, craving it. The ginger made a few steps in and turned around to once again glance at the strands of jet black and the eyes of Lily’s loved one, only to find the same confusion Prewett himself had. “Well, I think you know the answer to that.“ he smiled faintly, trying not to sound like a jackass. He didn’t have bad intentions, being pissed was also something that he was not. The man was confused, and asking if he was alright was just forcing him to tumble lies down his lips.
“Tea would be great, but nothing else, thank you.“ The warmth threatened to bite on his cold hands, and Fabian couldn’t really retaliate. They stung for a bit, as he sat down the closest possible chair and focusing on a book left out to collect dust in front of him. The twin didn’t really acknowledge the title, just that it was a book, opened, few pages scrabbled or uneven, but left away. Perhaps a distraction, that James had used to do anything but think.
“Are you alright?“

» a. prewett
Her whole body shook as she looked at her brother. How the hell had she actually been able to do that? Sure it didn’t hit him, but it was in his direction. Her brother, her family, part of her everything. A sob escaped her throat, only muffled by her hands in front of her mouth. What had this death eater done to her, for her to become someone capable of that?
But Fabian was still there. He was still there for her, refusing to leave until she was okay.
Would she ever be okay? The concept seemed so foreign to her now, the past month of her life being such a roller coaster of the happiest times in her life, and the worst times in her life. She had been able to get over what happened on Christmas because she was not the one involved, she was not the one they first. But now, she was in the very thick of it, being one of the three that got the worst of it. Someone had come into her home, taken her identity and gotten to the people she loved and cared for, because she was not careful enough.
It was all her fault.
“I don’t know, Fabian! I don’t have a plan, okay! I won’t be the reason you get hurt, I love you too damn much! I love Gideon and Molly too damn much! I…” she couldn’t even bring herself to bring up Frank, the sounds of their cries and screams fresh in her mind, seeing them writhing in pain played in her mind whenever she shut her eyes. And it was all her fault. She choked back a sob as he talked to her about his nightmare, guilt for the curse that was shot off intensified in her heart. “If we’re all together, we’re an easier target for them. We have to sacrifice to save those we love right?”
Alice winced when she felt her brother’s touch again, but this time she let him envelope her in his arms. She was no longer her nineteen year old self, but the eight year old who cut her knee and her brother wiping her tears and got her to stop crying. Taking deep breaths, she tried to reign in her emotions. She had been letting them run wild for far too long.
“We’ve never had to deal with anything like this, Fab,” she whispered, pulling herself closer to him. Her fingers clutched into his shirt, like she was anchoring herself. Squeezing her eyes shut, she willed herself to breath normally and stop the tears from falling before she opened them again.
“They know where I live, they know how to get to me. How do I live with that?”
Sometimes he wondered how he managed.
How he managed to be a pillar of strength and someone that people could hold onto, in order to avoid falling down. Hid head right now, his entire being was aching with pain, yet Fabian was still helping. An event that gave him the perfect opportunity to recollect himself and crumble in his own pain while rising above alone again. Yet he didn’t do that, he distracted himself. The worst part is that he still couldn’t do it — he couldn’t allow himself to fall down, but eventually that would catch up to him and he would fall down gloriously in despair. the question was when.
Fabian sighed and looked at his sister, warmth that was unusual both for the weather outside and the things happening in their lives right now. “By doing that you only hurt yourself more. Time will pass, this whole experience will only strengthen you and then you will open your eyes and realize that you released the grasp of something you can’t live without. Be it your family or Frank, even.“ The last words still sounded odd to him, but the love between the two was noticeable. “You can also help them, y’know? By being there for them. This is not a war you must fight alone.“
A pale hand ran through Alice’s locks in an attempt to soothe his sister, to make her calmer. Her whole body was shaking, she wasn’t who she was, the child Fabian knew. Warmness and color she lacked right now, so he had to do anything he could to revive the wonderful being his sister was, to help her stand up before he fell down. Alice’s breaths were almost scaring him — big, threatening to make her speechless.
“Yes, we never had to but we will deal with it too much in the years to come and you know it. This is a war Alice.“ A bitter reminder, but a needed one, he wouldn’t feed his sister lies. Her next words struck Fabian, as he they just got comprehended by his brain. The ginger allowed his chin to rest on the top of her head, while his pale hand still ran down chocolate locks.
“You can move with me. It’s scary, yes, but we will find a way. Stay at the Burrow, stay at mine or Gideon’s place, get a new flat, place new wards. We are here for you, and nothing will convince me you have to sacrifice me or the people you love. You need to fight.“

» septimus v.
Location: The Leaky Cauldron Date: January 19, 1979
He hated mornings. Once upon a time, they had been a thing of wonder – Josephine’s laughter filling the Vector home, her bright smile always seeming to outweigh even the sun’s strongest rays. Never the earlier of the children to emerge from their bedrooms, Septimus always knew if he hid away too long his beloved sister would come barrelling in, dark curls wildly fanning behind her, demanding him to awaken and spend the day with her.
But she was gone, and the beauty of such things was lost.
Now, mornings left a bitter taste in his mouth, stronger and more detrimental than the darkest of coffees from Paris. They were a viciously grotesque and cruel portion of every twenty-four hours he was expected to endure. As if war wasn’t bad enough.
In any case, he had ended up in the Leaky on that morning. Something about an ‘important meeting’ about Hogwarts had arrived by owl the night previous, and Vector was nothing if not a true Ravenclaw at heart – curious.
Patrons had come and gone in the hour he had been waiting. Growing impatient, he reached into his pocket for a pack of smokes, lighting one and taking a drag. Lucky Tom didn’t have drastic rules about cigarettes.
As he pulled in for another drag, the wizard felt a presence settle next to him at the counter. Hopeful it may be his mysterious business date, dark hues shifted. But nobody from Hogwarts had hair that vibrant.
“I don’t s’pose you’re who I’m meeting.”
@prxwett
Fabiana was a mess.
Not only because of the nightmares, but because of all the friends she had who were at the moment hurting. Her heart pained for her sister, for her twin brother, for her entire family. She could do little about it and that perhaps made her infuriated more than anything, knowing that she couldn’t help and that no one could help her.
But putting everything aside and helping others - that sometimes came back and bit the girl in the ass. Now a woman of twenty-seven Fabiana must have known better, but no, she hopped in saving everyone’s asses and making them feel better for the fee of her own comfort. But she was glad she did, else she would’ve fallen in a dark hole filled with nothing but depsair and sorrow.
The Leaky Cauldron was the only... what was it called in English... darn it, she forgot the word. The life of a multilingual person, forgetting words in her native language, wonderful. Choice! That was the word, The Leaky Cauldron was the only right choice for the time being, drinking away problems was always the way to go, huh?
It wasn’t even five minutes until someone approached her, a stud really. It caught her eyes, but right now her skin was withered, green hues wanting nothing but amber liquid as she tried to think of a way to escape the mental images of torture her mind produced. “No.“ she answered shallowly, while waiting for her pint.
“Always opened for a conversation, though.“ Her head jerked to the side, and her burning locks moved with the motion of it, catching eyes with the stranger.

It was taking an inordinate amount of willpower to keep Daisy from flitting around the counter in that moment and throw her arms around Fabian in thanks – much more self control than she imagined she ever could possess in her tiny body.
“This is – really, it’s too much. A dream come true for me.” Perhaps it wouldn’t be quite what her pipe dreams consisted of, but it was a start and it was real. “I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to do anything to make this up to you, Fabian.” It wasn’t entirely true, but she hoped to surprise him, if the day ever came when her thoughts of her own book may become reality.
“Oh, yes! Of course!” She exclaimed, a bright smile remaining in place on her features. Carefully, she took the Prophet from the counter and stored it safely below, where she could remember to reach for it once her shift was over. Green hues rising once again, she stepped around the counter, gentle features remaining bright. “You didn’t tell me much about your preferences, aside from languages. It may be of some help.”
“I do what I can to help,“ he shrugged, his ginger hair, which unfortunately wasn’t even close to matching Daisy’s own fire bouncing to the right side of his forehead. “Okay, don’t you dare even mention any sort of ‘making up‘. I need book friends, friends in general, so that could do as well.“ A grin appeared on Fabian’s face, a genuine one, one that rarely showed in those terrible times of war. To see people smile even thought death was knocking on the door - that was his mission in life.
“History books, biographies... I enjoy some sci-fi or fantasy novels too, they are quite fun, though with the knowledge of the wizarding world we have, I suppose it makes much more sense and it takes off the excitement right? I also love to read journalism, if you are learning a language you can teach yourself a lot of words from newspapers and magazines.“ Fabian turned to face her completely, the warmth of the others’ smile keeping him warm in the December winter.
“Just offer me a book that you like maybe? Or at the very least give me the title if it’s not a wizarding one. I have always loved to read anything, really.“

Before Alice could even comprehend was he was telling her, and light shot out from her wand, narrowly missing her brother across the room. Her free hand shot to cover her mouth, her whole body shaking with the realization of what she could have done to her brother.
Never in her wildest dreams would Alice intentionally have hurt her brother. Her family meant the world to her, and at one point they were here world. And Fabian had always been her protector. Even now, when she asked him to leave, he was there trying to protect her. But the only thing on her mind was doing what she could to distance herself from him, so she would not bring him the fate she had seen in her mind.
Looking into his eyes, she shook her head. “You have no idea how I feel. What I saw… It’s all my fault, but I have to do what I can to change it. To keep you all safe,” she said quietly, her voice still rough from not using it for a while. Grasping her wand for strength, she sucked in a deep breath, trying her best to regain her composure, so no more emotional spells exploded from it. “And to keep you safe, I need you to go and stay away. Tell the others to as well,” she said, her voice a bit stronger.
“I saw you too. And Gideon. And Molly. And Frank,” she whispered, her voice breaking on the last name. “He tortured you and killed you all. The threat to you all is so real, Fabian. You… You can’t be near me. I have to keep you safe,” she tried weakly, but her brother’s story weighed on her heart. He had been through pretty much the same thing, and she had never even thought that he might have. Merlin, she really was a horrible person. Her petty choices would be the death other loved ones.
Closing her eyes, she shook her head, backing up against the wall. Dropping her wand, she covered her first hand with her wand hand. “I’m not strong, Fabian,” she said, muffled by her hand. “Shit, Fabian, I’m not strong at all. I thought I was, but… He was here, in my home. And I did nothing to fight him. Nothing to fight him from getting in my head.” Her voice became clearer as she spoke, but it began to shake with her body. It was the first time she admitted everything out loud.
The tone in his voice, the look in his eyes, she didn’t know what did it. What triggered the switch from survival mode back to the little girl who needed her brother. “Fabian,” she choked out, fighting back tears. “I don’t know how you can help me.”
His eyes widened as he stepped to his right to dodge the spell his own sister had pointed to him.
Fabian couldn’t quite comprehend the situation. He knew her mindset, he knew her personality, and that was oh so typical for her - to throw something out of spite and anger. But never had he been witness let alone a victim to it, and now he was feeling like shit. He imagine the pain she was experiencing - he claimed he knew what it felt like, but he forgot she was also more emotional than him. She acted with her heart, her heart that leaked gold, and now the main arteries were closed and pumping nothing. Because her brave heart was so tortured, stomped over, that it couldn’t beat properly, making her do irrational decisions.
A normal person would run, or would leave her alone, blow up and make her feel like shit. But that wasn’t a random person from the streets, that was Fabian Prewett, and the confused girl in front of him was Alice, his little sister, who was hurting and aching with pain.
“So you plan on keeping me safe by throwing spells at me?” he let out a sigh. “Don’t forget that you need protection too. However tough you think you are. You aren’t immortal, you have emotions too and by pushing away those who you love you are killing yourself.“ Fabian only shook his head while dark green hues were concentrated in the tired face of his sister. His sight tumbled down to her wand and then back to her face. Oh how he wanted to help, but also how he wanted to reverse time and get them all out of there before all of this mayhem had happened. “I saw them too, Alice. I saw them too and he made me do all the work. They didn’t get tortured by a Death Eater, the Death Eater made me torture you. He knew I won’t dare even lay a finger upon you and he used that against me. We all hurt at the moment, and we have to be together now... all of us.“
Tears started rolling down once she uttered the words he could easily disagree with. Fabian couldn’t even listen to the whole thing, so he just broke his calm nature. Few steps closed the distance and wrapped Alice, his arms holding her and his sleeves getting wet from the tears threatening to fall down his sisters’ cheeks. “We will manage. You are the strongest person I know. That’s what they do, the make us believe we are on the losing side, but we are not... we are strong, Alice, we don’t give up.“ He pressed a soft kiss on the top of her hair, the duo crumbling down slowly on the ground, but the truth was, that she was safe in his hands, under his protection. However, a single thought crawled through his brain an crippled it.
Fabian wished he could believe his words, but he wasn’t sure if he could.

Some people say James is self involved.
Some say it, and he’s never really thought one way or another whether it was true. He likes to think he can say with reasonable believability that he’s a good person. He’s passionate and loyal and deeply dedicated to the things that matter to him in life. But he’s also arrogant and immature and staunchly impulsive. Pig headed and Big headed and everything in between.
And so he will admit with only a little bit of resistance (he hardly has the energy for much more) that he’s been worried about nothing other than his own fractured well being the past week or so. He’s been sucked into a sink pit of his own downfall, lost in amonst the murk of his heavy-lidded mindset.
He’s not been thinking about the others who went through the same thing, the others who saw the worst of their horrors, the others who were feeling just as scarred and wrung out as he was.
But now that he’s had time to sit around his flat on his own and wallow in his own cursed self-pity, he’s had time to reflect. He’s had time to wonder about how a select few others might be feeling right now, if James himself was feeling this badly.
It’s just about lunchtime, about ten or so days after the incident, (though don’t quote him on that, because the days have been nothing but a blur and he’s lost count) that he fishes out a quill and ink and scrawls out a note which feels foreign in his hands that have done so little of this finesse in the last few weeks.
Fabian had come to mind because they’d woken up side by side, and they’d both been too traumatized and sick to their stomachs with fear, to really pay each other any heed. But James had registered him, the look on his face, the gauntness of his jaw, and now that James is clearer headed, he can’t get the image of wrung out Fabian out of his head—admittedly, it likely has a lot to do with Fabian’s relationship with Lily—they had bee very close, still were, as far as James was aware, and he felt a certain kinship to Fabian by extension. Plus, he’s a hard bloke not to like. Sweet and charming and warm around the edges.
So tired of feeling consumed by his own self pity, he drafts up an owl and sends it Fabian’s way.

Fabian,
Hey mate. Been thinking about you. Just sorta came up for air myself, after everything that’s happened, and I wanted to check in… I reckon you didn’t have it any easier than I did, and, well, I don’t know. I’m sure you’ve got your own mates taking care of you and all that, but I couldn’t not reach out.
Plus, as you probably know by now, I can’t exactly check in on your through Lily… and while I’m on the subject, I know I don’t have any guarantee you don’t hate me now that she and I aren’t, well, she and I. But I want you to know that my feelings about you haven’t changed, and if you ever need someone to talk to, I’m around.
Let me know how you’re doing.

He opened the enveloped and almost wanted to throw the letter away.
Truly, he didn’t even want to remind himself of the terror he had seen in James’ face. The two had woken up together from this madness, this seventy-two hours of torture and Fabian couldn’t do anything to help either of them. Almost ten years below him, James Potter was already too brave for this world, and that the twin could acknowledge and respect. But bravery ran in the blood of the Prewetts, yet that was one of the few things Fabian failed to incorporate in his nightmare self, perhaps because his actions were not really controlled by him.
Mentioning Lily made him feel dizzy as well. James and Lily Potter were one of those couples that reminded him of young love. Of persistent love, yet for one reason or another their relationship have ended, and while he defended both sides he was still quite sad for both of them. Each word went through careful examination, Fabian’s green eyes trying to figure out the written, but failing to do so - call it exhaustion or the simple nightmare trauma.
Come on Prewett, the boy is concerned. He’s showing humanity and has troubles he wants to share.
So he stood up from the sofa that was anything but clean and tidy and fixed himself up trying not to think of all the nightmares, pain and torture. James Potter would be a distraction for him today, and the topic of the unfortunate beginning of the month he would try to avoid. Fabian avoided the mirrors in his place, as he did so for the last week and a half. He carefully opened the door, and allowed the brightness to blind him. A sharp pop resonated in the air, and he was gone.
Now in front of his flat, it all painfully reminded Fabian of the estate the Potters owned. It reminded him of another blow to the Order and how hopeless everything seemed. But that’s why they were called the Order of the Phoenix, right? Because even though the Death Eaters had killed them all, mentally, they always found a way to rise again. He knocked twice on the door and patiently waited, the noise of silence penetrating his ears way too hard.

Finding people who loved what they did, who were utterly invested in what they’d chosen to dedicate their lives to. It was a rarity that Amos had come to appreciate, especially when they still talked about it when the same vigor now, when war seemed to be swallowing up most attempts at lightness whole. “Hey – do you really think I’d be lacking in passion?” A challenging eyebrow rose at Fabian, because although it could be noted that he’d lacked enthusiasm in subjects he’d been forced to learn, that’d never been the case with something he freely gave up his time for. “Trust me, I’ll appreciate the extra motivation, and it’ll be a nice distraction from everything that’s going on.” Languages, although completely unlike the magical creatures he studied, were a facet of a society – showing ideals and traits and the way words fled from their tongues in so many different tempos and tones. It was fascinating, even if he’d rarely taken the time to learn a lot more than a few basics.
“Pretty sure people would fall over themselves if they heard him babbling in French. He already manages to win over most people he meets – think it’s the smile.” Pride filtered through his tone, genuine love for his son filling every inch of his being. Although he’d never planned on having a kid, particularly not during a war and never while he was this young, it was a surprise that’d come to only bring out the best in him. Just as Molly and Arthur’s kids seemed to be the light of their lives, so Cedric was to him. “Maybe it’s just the Prewett family charm.”
His head nodded as he left the room, “I know it was, Fabian.” Although, he supposed that all love was intense, in it’s own ways. Not that he had much experience with that. Bouncing Cedric in his arms as he returned, he grinned at the little exclamation that Cedric gave in response to seeing Fabian, the wide smile that seemed to take over the little boy’s features one that always managed to lift up his own spirits. “…You guys were together for four years – and Doc was happy. You don’t just fall out of love with someone in the span of an evening.” No, he was certain that a part of Doc’s heart would always be tied to the redhead, no matter the distance between them now. Although he was certain now wasn’t the best time to present his argument to Fabian. “Hey, you ran into him – for the first time in years, you’re bound to lose your head. Romance is… complicated, ‘specially in times like these.”
Fabian’s mind was still enveloped in everything that was happening around his life, and for the first time ever he thought about himself before the others. The drama with his ex was something that was in the past now, and the Prewett twin didn’t really want to indulge on it anymore, even with a person as understanding as Amos. His lips were sealed and eyes were trailing up and down, avoiding Diggory’s caring eyes. “Yeah,“ he simply said. And then he felt something emerge from the pit of his stomach, and it still reminded him of that anger he had felt. Blood rushed to his cheeks, and his body temperature rose, though he was not going to make this obvious.
Finally he focused his sights on Amos and smiled warmly. “Thanks for responding to that... well disturbance that I am.“ Prewett smiled lightly, taking his coat and tugging it on, the golden watch gifted to him in his seventeens peeking underneath the long dark-blue sleeve. He approached Amos and gave him a pat on the shoulder, and then proceeded with a boop on Cedric’s nose. “Yow two should get some sleep. It’s like what, four in the morning? Good thing it’s not workday tomorrow, eh?“ Fabian tried to smirk, but he couldn’t so he just turned back and opened the door, turning on his heels before he closed it.
“Thanks, Amos.“

The first thing she noticed when she glanced at her friend was that he looked, for lack of a better word, like complete and utter shit. It frustrated her, a fire heating her chest and turning her ears pink as she thought of how everyone she knew and loved had that same look in their faces : tired, beaten up, ruined by this goddamned war and its consequences. In reality, she probably looked like complete and utter shit too.
In retrospect, if they had to go through this, at least they were all together ( yet so far away, as though walking hand in hand but alone at the same time, fearful and cold inside ).
She wanted to be alone, and she knew that Fabian shared that feeling—— it was what they did, they helped everyone up and fell down in the comfort of their own solitude. But not today, because Lily wasn’t having any of that ; they both needed each other, to suffer silently with company, someone to push the pain away without saying a word. Fixing the problem without addressing it, simply by being there.
And it was because Lily knew that they both wanted to be left alone that she put on her big girl pants, plastered on a wicked grin and made her way towards her fellow redheaded friend, looping her arm around his and shrugging her shoulders ; completely ignoring the look he’d thrown her when he’d noticed her there. Even if he didn’t want to be with her, Lily knew that he needed this as much as she did, and that would have to be enough.
A head of auburn hair leaned gently on the man’s shoulder, a simple gesture that meant more to her than she showed, that meant :« we’re here for each other. » It wasn’t much, but it was what she needed right now and she could only hope that it offered as much comfort for her friend as it did for her ; her voice not quite matching her smile in its cheerfulness, not quite as steady as she hoped it would be.
— ❝ Well, I was thinking of opening a bottle of Firewhiskey but then I figured it would be sad if I drank on my own. So, I came to see you. Though I almost froze my bloody fingers waiting for you to come out. ❞ —
There was no questioning how he felt, how he was—— there was just an offer of Firewhiskey and friendship. If he refused, she’d still be here for him the next time, and the time after that, but the witch secretly hoped that he’d come with her, and take a part in her alcohol-fueled night.
— ❝ What'ya say ? ❞ —
How was one able to look like nothing has happened and be there for him when he looks like utter shit? How was Lily Evans able to instill tranquility in him and settle his inner demons with a bat of her eyelashes? How on Earth was she able to stand on the ground and seem so concrete, when everything seemed to fall apart so easily. Fabian had no answer to those questions, but frankly, he didn't want an answer. He just wanted everything to be better again.
Those two weeks in his flat wasn't at all pleasant, neither rejuvenating. It made him overthink and everyone who knew Fabian Prewett even the slightest bit knew how self-destructing he became once he overthought situations and scenarios. If the nightmare wasn't terrible, he transformed it into reality and was ready to throw his wand away, snap it so he can't harm anyone. The mirrors in his bathroom were covered with small towels so he could not stare in his emerald eyes, for the hues reminded him of the killing curse.
She then spoke, so effortlessly, so calmly, but call it a ginger's intuition, he knew she was completely fucked up. Not because of the nightmares, her separation from James was confusing even Fabian himself, two souls made for each other so abruptly broken, but then again he understood her points. And on top of that, a nightmare that probably ruined her sanity - fucking perfect, he thought. Yet here she was, not looking as shit like him, someone would actually say she leeched Fabian's ginger color and green hues.
He didn't answer, no. He couldn't speak. The briefcase in his hand filled with stupid documentations and extra work he had insisted to pick up scattered inside it and out of order, which was unlike Fabian's character. Fabian simply made a few steps towards her and dropped his case on the ground, failing to slam it open, for which he was glad. His arms wrapped Lily and his face was buried in auburn locks, his nose sniffing on the light scent her hair had.
A tiny whisper tumbled out of his lips and made its way to her ears, a whisper filled with hope and thankfulness.
"Yes please."
