I made a genealogy chart for Diomedes of Argos and immediately understood why Homer usually just calls him “son of Tydeus.”

This chart mainly follows the Pseudo-Apollodorus tradition, with a few variant traditions marked only briefly. Greek mythological genealogy is not a single fixed canon; different sources often preserve incompatible versions.

Two notes before anyone tries to untangle the entire Argive royal-house disaster from this chart:

1. Aegialia / Aegiale’s generation is unstable. In one version she is a daughter of Adrastus and Amphithea; in another, she is the daughter of Aegialeus and therefore Adrastus’ granddaughter. I kept her on the chart only as a simplified node and will probably talk about the Argive royal houses separately.

2. Tydeus’ parentage is also a mess. The main chart follows the common “Oeneus + Periboea → Tydeus” line, but there are other traditions involving Periboea, Gorge, Hippostratus, and even Ares. If the Ares-related version is taken literally, Diomedes wounding Ares in Iliad Book 5 becomes a very funny “grandson attacks grandfather” situation.

This is a Diomedes-focused chart, not a full chart of the Argive royal houses. If I expanded Bias, Melampus, Anaxagoras, the Seven against Thebes, the Epigoni, and the later Argive succession, the chart would stop being a genealogy and become a mythological traffic accident.
