Watching Saiki again and I have some more thoughts!
Remember when I said I didn't care for Saiko that much? Yeah, I changed my mind. I watched the episode where he shows the friend group around his house while trying to impress them and it made me like him more as a character. The dude just wants friends, man. So sweet.
Speaking of sweet, comedy aside, the series is actually really wholesome??? The premise is basically "a bunch of extroverts (and Kaidou) adopt an unwilling introvert with psychic powers, and in return, the introvert reluctantly helps them however he can."
Everyone needs a friend group like Saiki's. Case in point: the Season 1 finale! The one where they all go to Saiki's house, thinking it was his birthday, but it was actually his dad's, whoops! So Saiki made everyone think his dad looked like him so they could party (and he could avoid said party), but then his dad tells him that his friends would prefer being with Saiki himself and YEAH HE'S RIGHT. They were so concerned that Saiki wasn't acting like himself and that he was pretending and they wanted him to feel comfortable around them!!! So to summarise, THEY LOVE SAIKI FOR WHO HE IS!!! THEY'RE SUCH A WHOLESOME FRIEND GROUP AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA everyone needs friends like them i'm serious
Teruhashi... Oh wow. Can I just say I love her development? She went from pretending to be nice to actually being nice and compassionate, while still maintaining her ego. Let's face it, though. She has every right to have that ego. Though I would like to say, girl. It's okay to show your flaws around your friends. They'll still love you.
Okay, let me preface this by saying I love Nendou. But gosh, he can be so annoying at times. He's hilarious, don't get me wrong, but a lot of the time, his stupidity messes things up for the crew, and there comes a point, you know? But it's okay! He's still an amazing character.
I think this anime's telling me to get the manga, guys. Should I? (I actually do want to get it.)
I don't know if I'm projecting or reading too much into things, but... Is Kaidou autistic? Or otherwise neurodivergent? He gives me neurodivergent vibes. I don't know why, it's just the vibe I get from him.
Saiki's just a teenage boy, man. He's actually a teenage boy! He acts all nonchalant and like he knows it all, but come on. COME ON.
I know Toritsuka's... Toritsuka, but I can't help but feel bad for the guy sometimes. Considering that he grew up touch-starved as heck (seriously, besides the ghosts, did he actually grow up in that temple alone or did he have someone alive to look after him? Where are his parents???), it's no wonder he turned out the way he did. That teenage boy needed real affection YESTERDAY. Am I reading too much into a comedy series? Maybe, but I'm a psychology nerd, so... (BTW, that scene where kid Toritsuka learned his grandparents were ghosts was actually so funny what the hell)
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIND MY FAVOURITE EPISODES. I JUST WANTED TO WATCH THE CREPES ONE, WHY CAN'T I FIND IT??? At least I eventually found the marathon one, the sports ones are my favourites.
