Still thinking about Saiki K x Deltarune
Something about Mitskis music always makes me think of Kubosai
Saiki and friends ^^
Reita so cute
Kuriko is happy :>>>>
:( you can barely see his charming and mischievous smile....
saiki k dump bc i started my rewatch recently 🔮
One flick and you're gone
AU where Aiura posts the picture she took of Saiki's spoon, then deletes it, and because she's a gyaru influencer it prompts a Streisand Effect and the goverment gets involved.
i'm so obsessed with scenes like this that show kusuo is still just a kid at the end of the day......my sweetiepie
fuckkkkk these last ones are gonna make me cry HE'S SO CUTE 😭😭😭😭
it was really that serious for him... i actually love that we get to see him have interests like this, even if it's every now and then i think it really fleshes him out even more as a character 😭 he's really just a guy!!
I really wish Suziyuma’s introduction had been a bit more dedicated in terms of defining ‘luck’ in the Saikiverse.
Suziyuma was unlucky and we suddenly realize that luck can be controlled by outside (supernatural) factors. The sharp contrast between Kusuo’s bad luck of almost never getting what he wants (peace and quiet where and when he wants it) is contrasted with Suziyuma’s perpetual bad luck, where almost everything she does is not only a hazard to her but introduces hazard into the lives of others. That’s pretty big.
They spent an entire chapter on the contrast between an average person (Satou) with average luck and her. It was actually fascinating that the average luck cancelled out the horrible luck. A good number of accidents were caused by Hii’s presence. It affected Satou negatively, but there was always a follow up event that could be considered ‘good’ luck to balance if out.
I think Aiura even gives a small exposition on how this works! One’s luck comes in waves; it peaks and crests. If you obtain excellent luck via psychic powers (artificially induced) then you will suffer poor luck as a rebound almost immediately, I’m guessing because you interrupted the flow of luck.
Poor Suziyuma has gone around her entire existence with disaster as practically a personality trait. She’s another great candidate for serious fic that looks into her history and how her daily life has shaped her personality, as well as what that personality is like. We only get a glimpse of it really, just enough to know that she’s kind to someone like Toritsuka, even though she pretty quickly figures out what kind of person he is. Is this because her luck is already so horrible that she expects horrible people to follow her around? Or is she just genuinely so kind (and desperate) that she’s willing to overlook it for the sake of making a new friend?
don't hide such fantastic additions in the tags
Not to take this away from such an interesting discussion but...
If suzumiya has always had bad luck, she'll probably have a ridiculous amount of good luck in the future. Something that consistently gives her a bunch of good luck, and is seen as ( in universe) one of the best things that could ever happen to you, so much so that saiko went searching for it and sacrificed alot of his rich lifestyle for it
What if she ended up dating Teruhashi?
Whoa! That would be the plot twist of the century.
I guess it depends on how luck actually functions, right? But I don’t think luck necessarily works that way. Maybe on a day to day scale it does, but I think a net positive and a net negative over one’s lifetime are both possible, and they are specifically destinct from a net average luck. It’s Satou that gives it away. His luck is consistently, absolutely average.
I think it’s possible for the wave scale of luck to be tipped in one direction or another. Instead of your average being at the median of the wave, it could be closer to the top or bottom overall. It’s implied that one’s base luck value (if you will) is correlated with their guardian spirit.
Saiki’s luck is also consistently terrible (even though it’s for the sake of being formulaic and keeping him involved in the plot of others’ daily lives as a character- something he otherwise wouldn’t do.) Still, Teruhashi’s luck will always win out over his in a head-to-head.
Teruhashi’s luck is consistently excellent. She almost always gets what she wants, even sometimes roping Saiki into dates and such.
That said, I think it *is* possible for one’s overall luck to change. Hii chan proves that at the end. Is her luck average now? It’s unclear.
But That’s just what I think? Feel free to point out any inconsistencies here or offer up a new interpretation, or refute this entirely I love these kinds of discussions
@aiura-stan I think you're definitely onto something here! Aiura mentions that luck moves like a wave and balances out to net zero.
Almost like a sine wave! And perhaps different characters have different baselines for luck, where instead of net zero they have the equivalent of "net two", because they're consistently luckier (like the red line in the graph below). Teruhashi would be a great example of that. While her luck is overall great, she does run into the occasional problem like having to enter that nasty ramen shop or not being able to give Saiki her chocolates (as far as she knows).
The way I interpret Hii's whole luck situation is that instead of having the "normal" sine-wave-like luck pattern, Hii has been flat-lining bad luck all this time. She never gets a break! And it disrupts and drops the sine wave pattern of everyone around her.
So if that were the case, then fixing Hii's spirit guardian should restore her to a normal sine wave of luck with a much more normal baseline luck level. Hopefully her baseline luck is at least higher than average to eventually make up for all the bad luck she's had!
We also never learn who Saiki’s guardian spirit is, which could be negatively impacting his luck in addition to the positive luck associated with being born nearly omnipotent.
I do think that for Hii, the leap up from flatlined luck to normal person luck could happen with one wonderful Teruhashi-related event, but I find it more likely that as Hii is getting used to not tripping over everything, she trips one last time right into Teruhashi’s arms. Still something that would make other students jealous of her good fortune, but not as long lasting as a relationship with the perfect pretty girl
I'm not exactly sure when I'll run out of inspiration for Saiki k, but I think I've got several WIPs that have been calling to me for a long time. I'm working on one right now. (I know, I know. How many years later?)
but I guess the cool thing about my passion for works in this fandom is that it never dies.
I wrote and published Breaking Fate over a period of like four years. Nothing else keeps me coming back, working on old WIPs, like Saiki k. Literally nothing.
Idk what Asou put in this series, but it's pretty great.
if you know what fic this is for I love you
The real life accuracy of Saiki K comes from the fact that the most perfect pretty girl in the entire world is conniving and money hungry and ruthlessly ambitious. And also she wants to kiss girls
the pigtail special
I miss you. I'm not going to crack. I love you.
