17. Needing to kiss to hide from the bad guys
(Y/N) sighed as she took her glass from the table and took a sip, the alcohol burning down her throat as she observed the people around them. John was grumbling restlessly by her side, certainly annoyed with the situation - he hated the surveillances, not being able to sit still for much time, but Tommy had send them both to the middle of the enemy territory disguised as a couple to see if they could discover something useful to their expansion plan.
“I hate this,” she looked at John, who downed the remaining whiskey on his glass, one of his legs bouncing impatiently. She tried to concentrate on the job at hand and not think too much of how handsome he looked, even though he was being moody.
“I know, but there’s nothing we can do about it,” (Y/N) noticed the two Italians entering the pub through the back door, their eyes immediately scanning the room for threats. It was obvious that they would recognize John, the man was doing little to prevent himself from being noticed and that was the last thing they needed at the moment so she did the only thing that crossed her mind - she kissed him.
He seemed too shocked to respond for a moment but then his hands were on her and (Y/N) lost herself into his touch and the surprisingly gentle way that he kissed her back. When they parted, she kept him close, holding him by the lapels of his jacket. She discreetly looked towards the place where the two Italians had taken a seat at the bar, none of them seemed to have noticed the couple.
“What was that?” John had his signature smirk in place as he questioned her.
“Public displays of affection tend to distract people,” he scoffed, bringing her closer to him.
“Well, we better make sure they won’t look for us then,” as he kissed her again, (Y/N) thought to herself that maybe this night wouldn’t end up being that bad.

36. “We can never be together” kiss
Tommy always knew that this moment was bound to happen, since the moment he heard her name, but knowing didn’t make things easier. He looked at her, taking her in, she was as well dressed as always, the black dress fitting her curves like a glove and she could’ve fooled anyone with that smile. Anyone but him. Looking at her eyes he saw it, the same sadness that filled his heart was swimming into her beautiful (Y/E/C) irises.
She walked to him, stepping into his personal space, a hand resting on his cheek, fingers tracing the skin delicately before her lips met his in a chaste kiss. They both closed their eyes, trying to make the moment last longer, to avoid the bitter truth of fate. When they parted she kept herself close to him for a moment too long while looking him in the eye.
“Thomas, please, take care of yourself,” (Y/N)’s voice sounded choked as she fought back the tears threatening to fall from her eyes. He observed as she left, a part of him hoping that she would look back so he could engrave this last memory of her and cherish it when his heart called for her - she didn’t.

I have some important things to say to you about "Nothing's Fair in Love and War" so let's get straight to the point: this fic is being edited and we probably won't have new updates for a while.
The main reason is that now I have a beta and we discussed some changes and I felt that this was the best decision to everyone, since I will rewrite a lot of stuff and make some changes. That being said, the new version of the fic will be posted on my new blog, @amysteryspot, because this one will be turned into and archive, most probably, as I already said a while ago. I still have some requestes to answer through here, but after that all my work will be posted on the new blog (and there's a possibility that I will edit my other works to post there too, but nothing is set on stone), so I highly suggest you to follow me there if you like my work.
After I finish editing all the already posted chapters, we get back with the updates. I'm not abandoning the fic nor will I stop writing it, I'll just change some things that have been bothering me and have someone else take a look at it and correct the mistakes that go unnoticed by me.
Thanks for staying with me until now and I hope you don't abandon me (or Daphne).
