"Hmm… This one’s a doozy," Marzena mutters, more to herself than to ID. She frowns; she almost feels bad for Nico. Almost. Then that small spark of pity is drowned out by a wave of rage and hatred towards those inhuman, those… they dare to call themselves psychics, and they dare to call Marzena and her kind evil while they’re committing acts like this? She’s tempted to rip up the memory and call it a day, but she calms herself down, reminding herself that completely removing memories is a bad idea. She’s learned that one the hard way.
Still peering at the memory reel, she tries to think of a way to alter it that would be simple, yet still effective. In her thoughts, she starts looking around at the mansion, and at the blizzard beyond… That’s it! It’s a bit tougher than what she normally tries, but in this case, she’s up for experimentation.
Sitting down, she puts the memory reel on the ground in front of her and presses down on it with the tips of her fingers, concentrating hard. Duplicating memories is a bit tough, even for her, and small beads of sweat start breaking out on her forehead as she focuses, but as she lifts her hands, an exact replica of the memory is lifted with them. She takes the duplicate and hands the original to ID. “Have fun with it,” she says as cheerfully as she can manage.
Now, then, on to business. Laying the duplicate down, she carefully removes the first slide. She pulls her pocket watch out of her jeans, flicks it open, gently places the slide inside, and closes it again. Winding the watch three times, she opens it up again, nods in satisfaction, and takes out the slide again. The time on the watch itself still reads 5:49; the slide, however, has changed so that the door is no longer that of a freezer. She replaces it into the reel with practiced carefulness and removes the next one, squinting at it. Three turns probably wouldn’t be enough to do it this time; she tries five to start off with before opening it up and peering at the slide inside. Man, this is a tough memory. Closing the watch again, she gives it a couple more turns and looks at the slide again. It isn’t quite perfect, but it’s close enough. She takes out the altered slide and slips it back into the reel; it still shows Nico attempting pyrokinesis, but no longer with the imminent threat of freezing to death.
The next slide is somewhat easier, since Marzena figures all she has to do is replace Nico freezing with him just looking kind of sad and scared about being locked away in the dark. She makes it look as though the darkness was the reason he’d attempted pyrokinesis, but she doesn’t make it too dark; after all, ID wants this to be a manageable, non-life-scarring memory. The last slide, though, is a problem. No matter how many times Marzena winds the watch, the slide hardly changes at all. She glares at it, then freezes it solid and smashes it into the ground next to her. The three slides would have to be enough.
"How’s that?" she asks, handing the altered memory reel to ID.
