Psychosis is a symptom of many different things, including but not limited to: stress, depression, substance abuse, bipolar, and schizophrenia.
When someone has psychosis, they may experience hallucinations. There are three forms: tactile, where you feel things that aren't there. Auditory, where you hear things that aren't there. And visual hallucinations are where you see things that aren't there.
People also experience delusions, where they believe something that isn't true. This could be that they have special powers, someone is out to get them, anything.
Psychosis can be helped with medication, but not everyone is comfortable with that, and that's okay. Everyone experiences different things with their psychosis, and their healing plans are different.
Many people think that people with psychosis are scary, but that's not true. Psychosis doesn't determine whether someone is good or bad. Psychosis is scary for the person who has it. People with psychosis are just like anyone else.
Hi I like money. Here's my pricing and rules! My venmo has my deadname on it you will be cursed with twenty five bee stings if you say anything about it okay thanks
Now, it can be difficult to read through these and really visualize what kind of art you'll be getting if you put together certain aspects. So, I've taken some of my art and priced it how I would commissions to help!
so, when i was in college i would sometimes hear the door knocking in the middle of the night. It was kinda faint and distant-sounding, and while I could recognize that this meant it wasn't real, it actually just made me more uncertain and worried that someone could be at the door.
but for the actual question: does this sound like psychosis?
have a nice day
That does sound like psychosis, however, it's important to remember that many people will experience psychosis at some point in their lifetime! Hormones, stress, new medication, many things can cause people to experience it without having a psychotic disorder. Because it stopped happening to you, I don't think it's anything to worry about- but, if your college experience was stressful, then it's important to try and regulate your stress level to try and prevent that experience again.
Also, if your relatives have a history of psychosis, it increases your chances of experiencing it in varied ways. Just something to remember!
Hello! Welcome to this lil tournament I'm putting together, despite also running two others right now. Why am I like this.
Anyways!!! I'm schizospec. Sadly, I don't know a lot of characters from media who are also on the schizospectrum or have psychosis. So, I figured, why not make a tournament for it?
Guidelines:
No ableism will be tolerated, nor will any other kind of bigotry.
You do NOT have to be psychotic to interact with this tournament/blog. Everyone is welcome! Honestly, I'd be really happy if lots of different people got to have a good time and learn here. Anyone can submit a character!
No anti-propaganda, bullying, harassment, etc. This is for fun.
All submissions must be sent through the ask box to be considered. This tournament will have 32 participants, tops.
NO NSFW. Light blood is allowed but please no full-on gore. A good example is YTTD or Danganronpa; there's blood, but nothing too explicit.
Headcanons are allowed! Please indicate whether the character actually fits the DSM-5 criteria or if it's your headcanon.
You can submit multiple characters in SEPERATE asks. One character per ask. Please do not spam the same character over and over.
No ocs, I'm sorry. I'm sure they're wonderful :)
Rules may be added.
Now, you may be asking, what should I include in my submission? I would appreciate if your submission went something like this:
Character Name
Media Character is from
Image of character (links work fine)
What criteria do they fit?
Curious about what the criteria is? Here's a link to the DSM-5 criteria. This is what we'll be using mostly. If it's difficult to understand or read, I can make a separate post explaining the official criteria. However, if you're schizospec or deal with psychosis and have your own experience to add to it, please feel free to say that!
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
I have no idea how long submissions will go for, but I think I'll be finishing my other tournaments before starting this one- thankfully, the others will be wrapping up in a few weeks, depending on how things go.
Ok so, could anyone explain to me what is Anti Social Personality Disorder without mentioning "prone to criminal activities"?
Genuinely here, this isn't a callout or something, I'm trying to learn what this disorder is actually about but every single page I find (including Wikipedia) has this bias of "they're criminals and psychopaths" and I'm just trying to understand what these people actually deal with.
From what I've been able to understand, low empathy and being prone to isolation, I think? I could be wrong but that's one of the constant things I've seen (except for. Obviously the criminal activity stuff). And there's most likely way more to it, that's just all I've ever been able to find.
It sucks that there's hardly any information on ASPD.
hi i was wondering what the best word for someone who isn't schizophrenic to use to describe someone who is? (just because on the post where you talked about the shorter version being a slur but also reclaimable inside community (totally makes sense!) i wasn't sure if that meant just the shortened version or the whole word as well.)
(if there's a resource you wanna point me to instead rad just wasn't sure my own research would land me w shit aside from abelist doctors )
it varies by person to person - some of us may not mind others calling us schizo (as long as they dont use it as a slur). but generally, just saying we're schizophrenic/whatever our label is (schizotypal, schizoid, schizoaffective, schizophrenic, schizophreniform...). schizo-spec/schizospec is also okay usually, since it's a shortening of schizophrenia spectrum; but because it uses the term schizo, some of us may not be comfortable with non-schizospecs using it for us. so just don't use it around those of us who aren't comfy with that.
but ultimately (when possible) it's best to ask us (as individuals) what we want to be called/described with.
Depending on the cause for your psychosis, there's a chance you'll also suffer from learning/intellectual disabilities, that you may have a harder time understanding things, that you may have difficulty communicating.
I'M SO SICK OF SOCIAL MEDIA MAKING JOKES ABOUT HAVING DELUSIONS!!! SPECIFICALLY TIK TOK AND TWITTER USERS MAKING SCHIZO POSTING "TRENDY"!!!
DELUSIONS ARE NOT CUTE, QUIRKY, OR FUN!!! IT'S THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH PSYCHOTIC SYMPTOMS AND DISORDERS!!! IT'S SCARY AND INTENSE! YOU CAN'T PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT MENTAL ILLNESS YOU SUPPORT WHILE ALSO PUTTING DOWN THE OTHER!!!
