i dont really care for 'the women and children' as a cohesive group because i believe we primarily invoke it to suggest an ontology of essential vulnerability and inability to resist that is mirrored in the adult mans supposed essential invulnerability and inability not to resist. that is, they are always resisting, they are always a threat, and in the case of arab men murdered by american drones, to name one example, they are always "enemy combatants".

it suggests no woman or child could ever pose more of a threat than the least threatening adult man, could ever accomplish anything meaningful in any armed struggle, and epistemologically relegates these groups to support roles.

it also suggests no adult man could ever put down their arms, be disarmed, or lose their status as the same threat women and children are said to fundamentally lack. to become a non-combatant.

we try to talk about non-combatants to make points about their greater relative innocence but cannot to extend this grace to adult men under this racialized and gendered ontology because it is precisely the guilt of combatants (adult men) that gives (counter)weight to the innocence of the women and children (non-combatants) and makes it relative.

all palestinian men are innocent of the "crime" of being palestinian men! they are not all combatants! all combatants are innocent of the "crime" (un recognized right) of resisting occupation! the women and children of palestine can and are resisting genocide! the ones who rely on the ability of others to resist for them are not guilty of "holding back" just as much as they are not "more innocent" for not participating in this struggle, regardless of whether they are children, women, or men.

all palestinians are innocent and anyone can resist.

its the same logic used to justify the deaths of palestinians deemed homophobic. the innocence of one group is directly proportional to the expendability and guilt of another. both are global problems of patriarchy that affect social relations among both palestinians and settlers, as well as the social relations between these groups.

however our concerns when claiming a greater innocence of lgbt palestinians are rarely about the coloniality of the violence being enacted. similar to the american fascination with 'black on black crime', we focus our discourse away from systemic discrimination and towards individual actors, especially actors from the oppressed group, to explain away inequality and further justify structural oppression.

in the case of palestine, we insist homophobia is an arab problem because the israeli patriarchy has better public relations, in this specific case, on the matter of denial of its ongoing institutionalized violence against lgbt people. this is what we call pinkwashing.

western feminists pretend this genocide against all palestinians is some form of 'liberation' for these same palestinians that are gay or trans. western feminists also pretend this will 'liberate' palestinian women and girls. white supremacists believe this genocide will bring what are left of palestinians into the 'civilized' fold.

you cannot believe genocide will bring anything but destruction to colonized people. the benefits of colonization are limited to colonizers, and this includes colonized people further advancing the machinery of colonialism, that is, further destruction.

this hypothetical 'liberated' palestinian victim of patriarchy is a person that has been further destroyed and further colonized.

This is the Hearing Voices network, a long-standing group of New Zealanders who hear voices. Some have a schizophrenia diagnosis, some are sectioned under the Mental Health Act, and subject to compulsory treatment.

Some have developed a kind of companionable truce with the voices they hear, others are battling to tug back autonomy from a cast of characters who are controlling or cruel.

They meet in this small room, once a month or so, to support each other and discuss their voices: what they’ve been saying, whether they’ve been listening, how they’re coping with the various personalities clamouring for attention.

They share the latest information on treatments, the possible side-effects of drugs they might be prescribed.
